The real monsters don't look like monsters~
"If the kid doesn't slow us down, he can join us" she says coldly. Who was she kidding? Of course she wanted the kid to join them. It was astonishing someone so young survived on their own this long. You can't protect everyone a voice reminds her.
"As for your cat" she removes a katana and thrusts the blade downward so it was pointing towards the cat. "Whatever it is, you better keep it under control. My patience is quickly beginning to wear thin, the moment that thing becomes a threat..." She clenches her teeth and says nothing. They can piece it together anyway.
As for Neo, she glances at him with a slightly bemused expression. "What's the point of having them if they don't light? Don't be foolish Neo, not only are they harmful to your health they'll only make us easier to track. Give them to Athena" she scolds while glaring at him through the corner of her eye.
She sheaves her katana and steps to the back of the group. Glancing at Mei as she passes with a concerned look. She really didn't like her sudden inattention. What did she know? Nox glances around, suddenly sharing her paranoia.
Well... That was one way. She glanced over at the bickering and her eyes locked on Neo, specifically what was in his hands. She immediately melted into the ground, only to reappear again with Neo's cigarettes in hand. "Thanks for the pack," she said plainly, taking one out and holding it in her hands. She tossed the rest aside, which somehow sank into the shadows as well. There, now no one can have them. Mei personally wasn't a big fan of smoking, it smelled terrible and she had better things to do. This was the first time she had seen it in this form though, but she had definitely heard about it from those she talked to in Hell. A good portion of the newer guys used these things, and they always complained about not having a pack. How insufferable... Anyways, she was really only doing this to make them mad, they clearly weren't a fan of it either.
Mei picked up a blade of semi-dry grass and held it in between her fingers, the cigarette in her other hand close to her mouth. Suddenly, the blade burst into a tiny flame, dancing in her fingers. Mei somehow wasn't getting burned, and she was acting like this was natural to her. It became obvious that the flame was slowly dying, but she managed to light the cigarette before it did so. She glanced over at Nox momentarily, noticing that she was suddenly on edge. Yeah, guess she was a bit too obvious.
Cath lagged behind the group, deferring to Nox and Neo's skills as they approached demon territory. She had carefully slid all her vials back into her satchel, and slung it over her shoulder, but she continued to hold it close to her. She was glad Mei had taken the cigarettes, but the residual smell was giving her a headache. It was deeper than just a smell; the acrid stench of sulfur and tobacco had accompanied the demons on the day they came...
She never told Neo, because she wanted him to quit of his own volition. But Cath hated the infernal things. They brought her back to the worst days of her life. Focus.
"Mei," she spoke softly to her companion. "If I asked about your well-being, would you answer truthfully?"

"Mei, if I asked about your well-being, would you answer truthfully?"
She stopped walking, her expression unchanged but her body seemed to tense up a little. Where was Cath going with this...? "I think you already know the answer to that..." Mei spoke those words quietly, her voice low and dark. She was pretty much a compulsive liar, spewing untruthful words was what she did. It made things more fun, and her, less readable. Besides... Wasn't Cath done with her stupid questions? Mei was getting tired of answering, but it wasn't like she was going to stop. A small sigh followed after a few moments, her arms now crossed and her feet slowly picking up again. "Fine, what do you want..."
"You seem... quiet, despondent. Is something bothering you?" Yes, they weren't really friends. She'd known the crazy witch for all of a few forum pages, but Cath couldn't help but be concerned. Perhaps she needed a friend... perhaps Cath could be that friend.
She stared down at the ground feeling small stones crunching beneath her boots. A few leaves danced across the ground, small whispers of wind picking them up and carrying them to a great beyond. Cath realized that the forest was quiet; only the creaking trees could be heard. The birds had all been scared off by the blast radiation. Still, she waited for Mei's response.

"Bothering me? Don't worry about it, nothing you need to know anyways..." She grumbled. Ouch, bit harsh, wasn't it? Mei admittedly felt a little bad, but she meant what she said. She was tired of forking over information, and she figured that answer was truthful enough. It confirmed that there was, in fact, something bothering her, but hopefully Cath could take the hint.
Aww, but they're your friends! Stop being such a baby and lighten up, you don't keep things from friends~
Oh shut up... Mei's face twisted slightly upon having that thought, but she quickly wiped that expression off her face before anyone could notice. She looked over at Sobble, then at Calico. "Lilac." Mei shot a glare at Cath, slightly annoyed that she was just saying her real name like that. "That thing is not safe... As long as it's here, I'm not trusting you a bit..."
The Professor shifted her focus to the boy, Sobble. He seemed... bland. A boy and his cat, going for a walk in the woods. Yet he must have some sort of secret. People couldn't just go for walks in the woods and survive so easily anymore with the demons. And what was more: he had so much stupidly positive energy.
"I'm Professor Elysium," She said again. "Most people call me Professor, or Cath. Cerberus here is Lilac's dog." She gestured to the rest of her companions. Why couldn't she bring herself to trust Sobble? "They'll introduce themselves... crazy demon hunters the three of them."
She was very concerned about the cat. The magic that Sobble infused into it should not give her that inconclusive result. And why was Sobble just telling them about his powers? He had no idea who they were. He was either extremely confident, or naive...
"Like I said before. Keep the cat in control, and Cerberus won't bite his face off."
Yep, it was official. The cat was successfully unnerving her. She had never liked felines... well there had been one a while ago, but Kepler had undergone enough experiments to be officially considered half cat and half dog.
She resolved to keep an eye on them.

Nox decides to take the lead. Since nobody mentioned going to a specific place, she decides to lead them to one of her 'safe houses.' The closest one being an old office building. It was small, it only had the lobby, a bathroom, and three offices, but it would be enough. It was far better than sleeping out in the open. She had managed to store some supplies in there, but it wouldn't be enough for a group of this size. Still, it was better than nothing.
She unsheathes her katanas and tries to ignore the chatter behind her so she can be alert for signs of danger. But at the mention of names she simply turns around and introduces herself as 'Nox.' Unlike with the others, Sobble doesn't get the luxury of knowing her real name.
She didn't exactly distrust the boy. But she had to admit, she was curious about how he managed to survive and stay optimistic. Whatever, she would leave that task to Cath. She had a promise to keep afterall- ensure that Cath stays alive, she intended to focus on that duty.
Her headache was still there, a dull throbbing pain. Nox had taken charge, and that was fine by her. Cath was just... tired. It was all so complicated, and she just needed a good minute to process.

Just like that, the mental switch in his mind flipped, and he was reminded of the hunt. He may not be able to find his prey anymore, but he could certainly track down the destroyed base. From there, he could likely track them. It would be a slow hunt, but the hunt would still be enjoyable. He licks his fangs, already anticipating the delicious taste of blood this hunt would bring. He had almost forgotten how excited he was to taste the prey in this realm. "Yes, let's" he says in reply to Belphi, his voice sounding far more darker and serious.
"Tsk" Nox could smell the distinct smell of cigarette smoke behind her. Did Neo take her for a fool? She pauses her pursuit, but only to pluck the lit cigarette from his hands and stomp it into the dirt underneath her boot. After, she turns around and continues to lead the group forward. "If you are looking for something to do, why don't you come out of retirement and help me keep watch for demons?" Nox asks Neo.
