When The World Needs You - RP
Forum-Index → Roleplay → When The World Needs You - RPThey were all out of the building right now, and Mei was near the center of the group. She waddled behind Cath, waiting for an answer before she finally got one. It wasn't even the answer she wanted, what a shame... "Aww... There's a catch?! That's just mean..." Mei pouted once more, slowing her pace. "Fiiiine, I guess I'll answer your stupid questions..." She groaned, clearly not a fan of being forced to answer questions. Well, she wasn't forced, but she reeeeeally wanted to blow something up. She'd only seen the massive explosions in Hell, and only heard of the ones the other sinners had experienced, but she never got to be behind one. Besides... Didn't she just have to endure Cath's interrogations?
"First: What is your actual birth year and life story? You can give me the CliffNotes version... but I reserve the right to press for details."
"Second: How did you come to know the Shadow Realm, and what do you know about my earlier... entry? Yes, I know that's a compound question, but you should have negotiated better if it bothers you."
"Third, and finally: What was your time in Hell like? Any and all details are appreciated. Especially those pertaining to killing demons..."
She smiled, a taunting smile, clearly enjoying teasing her shadowy companion.

Eventually, Mei gave up and gave an exaggerated slouch to show her defeat, groaning loudly while doing so. "Uuuggghh, fine!"
"Look, I already told you guys my oh-so-humble beginnings, you tryin' to torment me by askin' again? What kind of cruel move is that..." She crossed her arms and frowned, looking between the 3 around her. She noticed a loner in the distance, who seemed to be playing with... a cat? Odd, she'll have to check that out later. Thank goodness Cerberus didn't notice, he was just happy to be following behind Nox. "As for my birth year... How the hell do you expect me to know? I can hardly remember my life before my 'unfortunate' demise, much less my birth year!" For once, she was actually being honest. Well, partially that is. She knew she was from the 17th century at least, but her exact age? You'd have to ask someone else about that, she couldn't tell you. Mei wasn't going to tell her acquaintances that either. "Also... what the f*** is 'CliffNotes'..." She waited a few moments for a reaction, but when she got none, she sighed and continued. No one appreciated her humor, even if it was a genuine question.
"Did you not even listen? I already told you that... Fate gave me a death wish the day I was born, and I became a witch later on or whatever... The realm was just part of the package, I guess." Mei didn't seem to like using that word, it left an unpleasant taste in her mouth and it just sounded weird. Besides, she didn't like to compare herself with them. It just felt wrong. "And about earlier? No damn clue, the people that did make their way in there were dead moments later." Mei snickered, amused by the fact that it could've happened to Cath. She could imagine the scenario, it would've been such a better outcome than getting all soft with her. Wait... now she'd have to explain the whole "dying" thing to her... Oh well, she already used her 3 questions, Mei wasn't obligated to answer any more. Ah who was she kidding, Cath could still withhold the detonator and fork a few answers out of Mei anyways. She still didn't have to answer, but the explosion... Why was she like this...
Mei tilted her head as she processed the last question, unsure of how to respond. She began to stall by making odd faces, but that wouldn't amuse them or her anyways. "What do you expect? Hell sucks, not much else to say. Had to slave away for that damn goddess and her little worshippers, nothing else but work and get your ass whooped..." Her face turned sour after recalling those unpleasant events, but she continued. "Got to watch them torment and kill the weaklings though, that was fun. Probably the only fun..."
"As for killing demons? Haven't got a clue, obviously I haven't been able to do it. For some reason, wasn't able to do anything pertaining to the shadows or magic or down there... It was sooooo boring, I was sooooo lonely, woe is me!" Her words seeped with sarcasm, and while she anticipated the darkness to suddenly make a move in retaliation, nothing happened. "Why don't you ask the two demon hunters? They've clearly done better than me. Or, at least one of them has." Mei glared at Neo and gave a snarky grin, trying to mess with him once again. How could you be a demon hunter and get possessed by one? That was stupid on an entirely different level.

After checking to see that they were a safe distance away, Cath handed her the detonator. "Now you can blow it up. I expect it back when you're done. That tech can be reused."
It would go into her satchel, which was full of... useful things. Using a basic lashing, Cath looped her bow over her shoulder, comfortably positioning it on her back. She knew that her archery would likely be unnecessary with the rest of the members in her group, but it made her feel just a tiny bit safer.
She peered through the woods and saw a boy in his cat. A quick glance at Mei confirmed that the woman had seen him as well. Demons in disguise? Or more idiots who had been planning to knock on her door? Oh well, the resulting explosion should get his attention, she thought wryly.

"I can answer that" Nox tells Cath softly. "There is only one way to kill a demon, you must cut it's head off. I'm sure you know that they are able to heal themselves impossibly quick. But they can also recover from what should be fatal wounds with surprising ease. You want to ensure one stays dead? Go for the head... I suppose a well placed stab to the heart could work too" Nox explains.
She shifts her feet now that they stopped, petting Cerberus while she analyzes the area. Like Cath and Mei, she almost immediately spots the strange boy with his cat. She narrows her eyes but doesn't bother going for a weapon. She has her suspicions, but the boy didn't look demonic. She was more worried about how Cerberus would react upon seeing the cat. She continues to hold the dog's attention, not wanting to find out.
For a demon that was an expert in hunting, and was far stronger than he usually showed, Aster looked quite horrified to see Grimm tossing Belphi into the air. Did Grimm realize that she was quite literally tossing a ticking time bomb into the air? A toothy smile appears on his face. He liked her boldness. She would be fun to hunt with.
A crazed laugh bursts out of Aster when he is hit with how humorous this whole thing was. He was practically giggling like a child but his smile vanishes quickly. He stands up, looking far more serious now, and turns around to face his prey's direction. They are moving? So soon?
Kendo grinned, as he stopped with the others. A boy and a cat? For some reason, something about the boy seemed... insufferable.
wickedness?
Or is it
weakness?
You decide.
The lab was really about to blow. Like actually. Truly, completely, not at all a joke. Athena couldn't get that thought into her head. It just... Of all the worst case scenarios she'd imagined, Cath's lab blowing up was not one of them. Still, she had promised herself that from now on, no more sappy thoughts. That was hard. But she couldn't understand why. Back when she was still at the Resistance base, she had managed to lock all her emotions away. Now, she had suddenly just broken down and let all of them rampage. Like they were making up for lost time by being extra strong and crazy. This was wrong. She thought in logic and reason, not feelings. Why couldn't she just get them out of her head!?

Mei seemingly ignored Nox's words for the time being, but she understood it was valuable information. It would be useful to her in the future, and she admittedly felt stupid for not figuring it out sooner. She completely ignored Neo though, not really interested in finding out what that movie was.
As soon as everyone was ready, Mei slowly set her finger on the button, setting it off almost instantly. She watched in awe as debris flew everywhere, the nearby grass set ablaze, and a gust of odd-smelling air hitting her straight in the face. It was honestly better than she expected, and Mei enjoyed every second of it. Her hand flew up with glee, and a celebratory shout left her mouth, giggling following after.
As the explosion had somewhat died down, Mei's joy did too. Granted, she was still excited, the smile on her face showing that, but she reluctantly handed back the detonator to Cath. She saw no reason to keep it, even if it would be funny, but it was not worth risking a whole ordeal about it. Mei looked over at Cerberus, who was low to the ground and shaking somewhat. Aww... Now she felt bad, she didn't even think about him. She bent down and tried to comfort the dog, but it moved away when she approached. He knew what she did, what had happened. Not only the explosion, but everything that happened today. She got back up, her expression more mellow now, and looked over at the boy and his cat. "Sooooo... You guys wanna have a little chat with the guy over there?" She pointed in his direction, seemingly already bored of the big boom that occurred moments before.
When he was set down, Belphi finally sat up with a yawn, stumbling after Grimm and Aster. Soft snores followed him as he slept walk, still very much unconscious but somehow still aware enough to know when to walk and follow after the others.
With his teeth clenched he glances towards where he knew the explosion came from. Something was wrong though. The scent seemed to have totally vanished. "Someone in that group is thinking ahead" he growls. "We must exterminate them. They are ruining our fun!" Aster whines. "Hmph, it's no loss" he says while standing up. "We'll just have to follow the scent of smoke and hope we can pick up a trail." He glances back at both Belphi and Grimm with a bemused expression. "Let's get going, I hope you can keep up Belphi"
Nox couldn't help but feel bad for Mei. One thing that was clear about Mei was the fact that she genuinely cared for Cerberus. She couldn't imagine how the girl felt about the dog being afraid of her. She pats Cerberus, trying to calm him down for Mei. She tries to shoot Mei a sympathetic look. But it vanishes when Mei asks the group a question.
"That would be our best bet. We should make sure this guy isn't dangerous" she replies. She stands up and leads the way, pausing only to make sure the group is following before continuing forward towards Sobble. [I am gonna be busy so someone else can lead this interaction ;w;]
A thick smoke had begun billowing from the cloud of rubble that used to be her house. Everything was...gone. She couldn't believe it. But in a way, Cath felt free for the first time in years. She finally had a real purpose: to protect her friends and rid the world of a great evil. And this time there was no untrustworthy middleman in the form of a corrupt resistance organization.
A piece of paper fluttered on the wind, dancing like a leaf in front of Cath's eyes. She reached out a hand into the air, and snatched it. Curious, she smoothed it out. She uncrinkled the weathered edges, and looked at the familiar slanted handwriting. With a pang of sadness, she began to read.
From the desk of Zelalem Kauri,
If you're reading this, then I am likely dead. Hopefully, I have contributed to the scientific fields of which I have so loved. Perhaps my work will live on through my student. To Caerthynna Elysium: I leave all my work to you. I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter. Do not be sad that our time together is over, but smile because it happened.
Professor Z. Kauri~
The odds for that exact piece of paper being the one to survive was so low. Cath couldn't help but smile sadly at the words on the page. She held the scrap close to her chest, and reverently slid it inside her satchel. Composing herself, she returned her attention to the matter at hand.
"Alright," she said. "Let's go and investigate this stranger."
As she led the group through the thicket and over the ridge, a boy and his calico cat came into focus. They seemed innocent enough, but Cath knew from experience how tricky the demons could be. And cats... they were traditionally associated with the devil. She was 100% a dog person.
"Hello," Cath called out to Sobble. Cerberus bounded by her feet, excited at the prospect of
