“Seek what sets your heart on fire”
Soleil heard the comment Lilith spat at them but decided to ignore. It wouldn't do any better to ignite a fight between her and her dorm mates. She might as well let it slip.
Though she may change her mind if she wanted to later.
"I think I'm going for casual too," she replied to Lyra's question with a shrug. She had plenty of formal clothing her father packed to wear to events like this but she was not looking forward to wear them. He wouldn't be at the dinner to see her anyway.
Maybe she really should just go with pajamas.
"My sister got me a new denim jacket that I haven't tried on though. Maybe I'll go with that," she muttered. The trio walked until they reached the flight of stairs. "Well, I'm going to head off to my room to prepare. I might take ages. See you later!" she smiled brightly and waved at Song and Lyra as she bolted up the steps towards her room.
When she reached the top floor, alone. She entered her room and sat on her bed. A burning feeling of dissatisfaction in her chest. After staring at the floor for what felt like ages, she stood up and started changing.
"Violence is not always the answer, Soleil," she mumbled to herself, a quote told by her mother long ago.
Song BingLiu hunched his shoulders slightly as if such an action would do anything to protect himself from words. He could understand why Lilith would think that way and couldn't quite blame her. She didn't know how to read his hands and hid physical body language hadn't exactly been open or warm. But just because he understood didn't mean that he wasn't hurt by it nor did he feel obligated to change her opinion of him. Turning his attention to the eager talk about what clothes they would be wearing, he perked up. Clothes were one of the few non musical interests he had and the chance to show off his fashion sense was too good to pass up. Waving cheerily to Soliel as she disappeared into her own room, Song BingLiu turned to his other friend. "I think you'd look really good in a sweater. You have the figure to pull it off too." He encouraged, a wide smile on his face. "As for me, I'll probably also go for casual. I took one of my brother's jackets in secret before I left so maybe I'll wear that."
He had decided to go with a safe beige turtle neck and brown wool blazer combo, along with his striped brown pants and shoes. As he looked himself over, he readied himself for dinner and whatever else was to come. He ditched the glasses this time, cringing a bit at himself for even wearing them in the first place when he didn't need them. Finally ready, he put his phone aside and opened the door back to the common room and looked around for anyone near.
Coming to the common room too, again with a bottle of soda in her hands, she waves at Meka. "Looking sharp there, Meka-lein. Love the barrett there too, reminds me of Guavara." She snickers, handing over the bottle. "Want a sip?"

Soleil emerged out of her room. After countless hours of fighting with her hair and arguing with her wardrobe, she finally finished dressing. Though she had planned the blue denim jacket, it matched pretty badly with her entire attire and she was forced to change to the black one.
Satisfied, she slid down the stair rails to the common area. Meeting up with Meka and...
Lilith.
The warm air around her suddenly turned cold, but she stayed quiet. "You look amazing, Meka," she complimented with a bright grin. She didn't bother to compliment Lilith for two reasons. One was she might just lash out and second was her face, and her shirt, told her enough that she wouldn't appreciate any half-hearted comments.
She sat on one of the sofas, playing with her phone, which she rarely does, blaring music through her AirPods to beat the silence she hated. The soft notes of the piano were enough to make Soleil fall asleep, or remind her of Song's voice. Speaking of which, she wondered what Lyra and Song would wear while staring outside the window at the darkening sky.
She headed to her dorm. Despite the extensive cleaning, the door still had a rather apparent fruit punch stain on it, making it easy to find. She quickly got herself changed into something more 'cute': a little pink shirt with a crystal pattern that hid a unicorn if one looked closely enough, and some tattered jean shorts. She tied her hair in a ponytail, but couldn't really do anything more with her hair, so she just gave it a quick brush and walked out. After all, it wasn't like she was going to prom or anything.
Meka paused upon reading the sign on her shirt, quickly stopping himself with a finger to his lips. He shook his head in denial towards her offer and gave her thanks anyway. Hearing footsteps behind him, he turned back and smiled at Soleil. He greeted her warmly and complimented her back.
'Thank you, you look quite smart yourself Soleil. Feel free to take pictures this evening if you like.'
He smiled teasingly, although he figured something might be wrong because of the somewhat "cold" atmosphere. Was there a fight? This early? He stood there for a while, getting more annoyed at the silence before he finally broke it.
'Has anyone seen Alaparos?'

Soleil looked away from the window. "Maybe he went of to get ready too," she guessed, though she barely saw him after she pulled Lyra, Song and herself away from the group earlier. Seeing that he wasn't anywhere in the common room, she predicted that's what he was currently doing.
And, yes, she was aware of the cold air around the room. Even though it was most likely conjured by her, she herself felt uncomfortable with the aura she was radiating. Even when the air around her was almost chilling, she could feel the palm of her hands burning.
Maybe a little, bright conversation would clear up whatever icy air there was building up. She also wanted to smooth things out with Lilith. Not just for her sake but also for the sake of not accidentally burning the dorm down to cinders.
"What food do they normally serve at the dinner?" she asked Meka. Considering he was a second year, he probably went to it last year when he first enrolled. She thought up various food that may have been served. cake, pudding, a chocolate fountain. Truthfully, she was just hoping there were a lot of sweet food.
Emerging from his room, Alparos felt a little bit overdressed. While everyone else was more or less wearing casual wear, his was noticeably both more high end and more formal. With a blazer, dress shirt, turtleneck a slacks, it was easy to see that he came from money. A lot of money. If one squinted, they would probably come to the conclusion that they were designer clothes. Unfortunately, aside from a few gifted sweaters from the year before, everything that Alaparos owned was indicative of wealth. But still, he continued to wear them, unwilling to buy new clothes. Even if he knew that he had the resources available to do so, buying new clothes seemed like a waste when he had perfectly serviceable, if a bit expensive, clothes that he already owned.
So it was with light trepidation that he rolled back into the main room. The blanket that usually lived draped over his lap was instead hug to the back of his KSL, leaving him feeling the slightest bit naked. Spotting Meka already changed, he began to wheel himself over only for Lilith to reach him first. While he himself didn't have any problems with the first year, he liked to reserve judgement until after he had gotten to know the person, he could see that the others weren't exactly fond of her either. Still, he would give her a chance so he rolled over regardless. "Careful not to spill any." He warned warmly, knowing that he would be the one cleaning if that were to happen.
It was a quick affair, changing. It didn't take much effort at all. Swapping a fashionably cut but ultimately only aesthetically pleasing sweater for a much more practical one, layering two atop one another. Blue and white swirled together, unified by the light grey beret that replaced his beanie. Sneakers were traded for more fashionable boots, clunky enough to make a clack on the floors yet sleek enough to be fashionable. The only thing that he didn't change out of was the skinny black jeans that he accessorized with a clip on silver chain. The outermost blue sweater was much too big for him, sleeves swallowing up his small frame and falling just past the palms of his hands so only finger peeked out from under the well worn fabric.
So quick was his change that he was able to pop in and out without very much notice, sneakily returning to the room to stand right behind Soliel in a experiment to see how long it would take the other to realize. He could shamelessly admit that everyone in the room looked dazzling in their new attire, so much so that he felt slightly under dressed. But even that thought didn't last long. Song BingLiu knew he had a good sense of fashion and it just meant that everyone else around him had styles that he could greatly appreciate.
'Well it was a pretty good spread last year. On normal days there'd be a menu with set meals from which you can choose from depending on your diet, but today would probably be along the lines of an all-you-can-eat buffet. And always save yourself some room for dessert. They only bring it right at the end when everyone's done. A bit cruel, isn't it?'
Chuckling softly, he felt reminiscent and thought about the dinner from last year. He wasn't able to eat much, but the dessert was well worth it. He turned toward Soleil's side upon sensing some movement by her, embarrassed that he hadn't noticed the boy earlier.
'Hello Song, how long have you been there?' he teased slightly. 'You look very good.'
Everyone looked quite fine in their attire, which seemed to be a reflection of their own personalities. Specifically the one with interesting wording across her chess whom he turned toward and smiled as a response.

When Meka brought out the topic of Song, Soleil's head immediately turned to look behind her. She swore she only saw him enter his room when she came down the stairs after dressing.
She didn't think that it would only take Song just a few seconds to alter his entire normal attire into something so amazing. Soleil's eyes sparkled.
"You have got to teach me how to dress that fast, I almost brought my wardrobe into a wrestling ring," she chuckled towards Song. She took note of Meka's advice for the dinner, though she wasn't that good at eating a lot. She stayed with a strict diet at home so she predicted she'd be full even if she ate a little before the dessert comes.
She caught the sight of Alaparos and smiled. She liked how everyone was dressing, even Lilith as she was wearing clothes that Soleil would have worn if the tingling image of her father's warning wasn't in her head. She saw Regan too and was slightly regretting wearing whatever she was at that moment. Compared to Regan's, which looked a little loose and free, her clothes were restricting her movement slightly, which Soleil hated.
Song BingLiu could only smile widely, sunshine grin pulling freckled cheeks back. The mischievous glint in his eyes told Meka all he needed to know about exactly how long he had been there. Long enough to have heard most of the conversation yet short enough for a quick change. "Thank you." He said earnestly, the simple gesture conveying the same warmth that shone through his smile. "I'd be happy to share some tips with you, Soliel. It's not too hard once you get the hang of it." Song BingLiu could still remember the days when he had to learn to quickly change his clothes, the almost comical dramatics that went on in order to slip in and out of clothing a hilarious memory that he still regarded fondly.
He smiled, patting his juniors' backs lightly so they can walk in front of him. He walked over to the side and opened the door for them as they walk past. An image ran through his head, that of a sheep dog guarding and herding sheep. It was a comical thought to think of, but it somehow made him feel warm. As the others walked past, he closed the door behind him and dutifully ran to the back of the group like an enthusiastic dog with a purpose to serve his master.
