Evander stopped walking, feeling slightly sorry for the girl. he
sighed, "Look I'm sorry for trying to kill you earlier, but I'm not
so good at trust either. I can assure you, I dont need assistance
in locating her." he combed his hand through his long hair. "How
about this. I'll go find her, while you and Violet find some info
on where we are. We'll meet back here in two hours to discuss what
to do next." As her began to dissolve, he added, "Don't worry. If I
find him I won't attack." He flew off into the sky.
"Please don't," Aroura shouted after him, "If he's hurt her, I want
a piece of him too!"
She sighed, frustrated with being left behind. She shook it off and
turned to Violet. "Well, you ready to began the hunt for answers?"
"Definitely. Besides, I want to figure out what I can do." She
glanced around quickly. "Which way should we go? Doesn't look
promising either way to me."
"I'm not sure, why don't you pick? It might lead us to finding your
power. " Aroura suggested. She didn't know why, but she felt she
could trust this girl. She reminded Aroura of herself.
"Theenn," Violet took another glance around. "This way." She
gestured left. "There might be a few decent people there. It looks
a little less run-down. C'mon." Resisting the urge to wildly sprint
off as she would alone, or in any other situation, Violet began to
walk down the road. She had a bad feeling about this way in
reality, less run-down or not.
"Sounds good t me," Aroura told her. She could tell Violet was
antsy, so she sped up, "Let's jog. I always feel better when I'm
moving faster."
As they jogged, Aroura kept an eye out for anything that could help
them out. Suddenly, she noticed a soup kitchen. Taking hold of
Violet's shoulder, Aroura said "Hold up, they might be able to tell
us something in there."
"Alright, but please stay close, if I want to protect you and make
sure no one can get ahold of you. You're important," Aroura told
her, "I don't know why, I just have this feeling you are."
Having said that, Aroura opened the door. Inside, rickety tables
where set up in rows with folding chairs set next to them. The room
wasn't full, but there where more people then Aroura would like. On
the far side of the room stood volunteers with all kinds of
inexpensive foods in front of the to serve to people.
Evander had an idea of what his new ability might be. The
manipulation of microbes, would fit with the theme of his outfit.
He was about to try flying faster, when he saw movement below. on
the roof of a nearby building, a man waved at him. A man with
transparent skin. He quickly desended, reforming on the roof.
"Where is my sister?" he growled. The man raised his hands in front
of him. "Calm yourself, son. No need for hostility. I came to fetch
you at the request of your sister, Synthia." Evander calmed himself
slightly, but didn't let his gaurd down. "Who are you?" "My name is
John. I noticed the destruction you and your sister caused earlier,
and wanted to help you. When I brought your sister to my home I
meant to take you as well, but the other girl noticed me. I did not
want her to interfere with the transport process." His story had a
ring of truth to it, but Evander still wasn't sure. "Why do we need
help from you?" "I can assist you in learning to control your new
found powers. I lead a faction of people like you and your sister.
Our mission is to rid the world of evil. I wanted to get to you
before our rival faction. They have the same goal as we do but, "
John ground his teeth. "I feel they are to soft. Criminals dont
deserve mercy. They deserve judgment." Evander gave a small smile.
This was his kind of guy. "When do we leave?" John grinned. "Now."
he said grabbing his shoulder.
An older, frazzled looking woman come over to Aroura and
Violet.
"You two here to collect for John?" she asked them.
"Who?" Aroura asked.
"You know, the translucent guy who runs the criminal underworld
here in Centros. You look like one of his thugs. Unless you're part
of his rival's group." the lady told the girls.
"Oh no," Aroura whispered, swearing, she grabbed Violets hand. "We
gotta go! Synthia's in trouble."
Once outside, Aroura whispered to the wind, sending a warning to
the boy, wherever he was.
Evander looked around to see they were standing on a tall hill,
with the city in the distance. He suddenly heard Aroura's voice on
the wind "Synthia is in danger! the man that took her runs the
criminal underground. Be careful." John heard it too. Frowning he
explained, "There are many criminals who commit their crimes saying
they work for me." He sighed. "Its given me and my friends a bad
rap." Evander nodded. He felt fairly certain the man was telling
the truth. When they entered the building, something small and pink
flew at him. "Evander!" Synthia cried, clinging to him. They
embraced for a moment, then let go when John said, "I hate to
interrupt, but we have a few things we need to discuss. If you
would follow me." They entered a small side room, probably the mans
study. They each sat in one of the two chairs across from the man.
"First let me explain how you came to be here in the first place.
Every so often a few young people show up out of no where with
extraordinary powers. You and the others that you were with are
those people. The young people are then given a choice. Will they
join the Nox faction? Or the Lux faction. The Lux faction is run by
my brother Terminus. He believes that wrong doers should have a
trial and all that. I do not. Supers that do not choose a faction
are soon picked off by other rouge Supers. Now I have seen the
powers you both posses, and I would like to personally invite you
to join the Nox faction. You don't have to decide now you can think
about it till tomorrow. If you decide to join, wonderful. If you
decide not to join, I will hold no ill feelings against you and you
may join the Lux faction. But I do suggest that you pick one. I
don't wish to see either of you hurt. For now feel free to explore
the mansion or the grounds. If you wish to explore the city I
request that Synthia stay here, for her own protection. She is not
a warrior yet." Evander nodded. "I will need to return to the city
soon." he looked at Synthia. "Will you be okay here without me?"
She nodded. "I'll be fine." Evander smiled. As he flew off towards
the city, he realized with a start, that he had heard for the first
time, his little sister's voice.
After Ethan had seen the woman enter
the building, he could hear shouting. Suddenly he heard a girl
scream. The next thing he knew, the side of the building he was on,
collapsed.
He got scared, he thought that he was about to die. Ethan placed
his hands over his head and closed his eyes. He braced himself for
the impact. Suddenly, he was on the ground. But he hasn't fallen to
the ground, he was just there.
Ethan opened his eyes, he was on his side. Looking around he saw
that he was in a small alley. As he peered out the alley, he saw
the building that exploded. It was on the other side of the street!
How did he get here, he thought.
The girl he saw earlier was talking to a guy and another girl with
glasses. The guy suddenly dissolved. Ethan was shocked, he has
never seen than before. He watched as the two remaining girls began
to jog, he slowly followed them and watched them walk into a soup
kitchen.
He tried to get closer to the building to see if he could get a
better look at what the were doing. Ethan managed to make it quite
close to the door, when suddenly, the girls burst out of the
building. He didn't want them to see him, so he quickly dived into
the alley beside the building.
As he flew, Evander noticed that his pieces had formed into the
vague shape of a bird. "That's odd" he thought. "Wonder why it did
that?" As he flew, he felt that same strange attraction. Following
it, he was lead to an alley beside a soup kitchen. Silently
swooping down, he saw a boy near the entrance. He reformed behind a
dumpster, to keep from giving him a heart attack. He stepped out
from behind it, into the kids line of sight. "Hello. The name's
Locklear. I'd like to talk to you for a moment, if you don't mind.
The boy who appeared behind the
dumpster caused Ethan to jump a little. He claimed that his name
was Locklear. Ethan suddenly realised it was the guy he had seen
earlier who dissolved. What was he?
Locklear stated that he wanted to speak with Ethan. Ethan was
unsure whether to trust him or not. He had no choice, he had to
talk to Locklear, he had to know where he was and what was going
on.
"Uh, hi?" Ethan said.
"Judging by your confused look I imagine you don't know yet." He
lifted his plauge mask, hoping to ease the boys discomfort, if only
slightly. (He looks like my avatar. He doesn't know about the eye
thing yet.) "A few people have been transported here and given some
slightly odd abilitys. You are one of those people. I assume you
woke up a short while ago, without much memory of where you came
from or how you got here?"
"Abilities? So what you can do, that's
your ability?" Ethan questioned. He was curious to whether or not
he had an ability himself. He wondered if it was maybe his ability
that saved him from the collapsing building.
"How many other people are there, do they also have abilities? Do
they have memory problems as well?!" Ethan exclaimed.
"My ability as I currently understand, is the manipulation of
microbes like bacteria. I have also learned to use these microbes
to disassemble my body allowing me to fly. So far there seems to
only be five of us. My sister has some sort of sound based power.
She was the one that destroyed the building earlier. There is a
girl named Aroura who can control elements. We haven't found out
what Voilet power is yet. And yes they do all have memory loss."
"Where are the others? And why exactly
were we brought here? What exactly are we even meant to do?!" Ethan
asked. He was so confused, he just didn't understand. How could
people just suddenly gain unnatural abilities. And why him?
Evander tryed to answer his questions. "The others are around the
corner. I don't know why we were brought here. I really don't think
we are meant to do anything in particular. Any way let's try to
figure out what your ability is. Has anything strange happened? An
unexplainable event?"
