The professor flicked to the next page of his book.
"...In this society, everything is determined through the rank of your Edeya. I've seen many-a talented hunter be crushed by society due to their poor Edeya. It's a shame, really."
The professor sighed.
"Which is why I'm here to help you. I don't believe any of you have a bad Edeya, mostly due to the fact that an Edeya cannot be bad. I'll be helping you rise in the rankings of this school. How does taht sound?"

Oh well. She could be evil for two more years.
But you need to be a role model now...
She shoved the thoughts out of her mind, and met Professor Wright's eyes. She gave a single nod, listening intently.

"Professor, as much as I believe in your words, I believe these ranks were made to have people at the bottom rise to their full potential, as broken they could be."
"Well, as far as I've seen, the people I've interacted with and have had low ranks were incredibly impressive. Although it is possible that I've only seen people with low ranks, I do know that I've seen the darker sides of this area. The people there were all ranked pretty high, but the people I've seen take them down were much more impressive, although lower ranking."
She took a shaky breath, her hands delicately wrapped around the baton. Man. I suck at public speaking.
"Plus, being the best also is not thinking and working too hard at things. It could be possible that the best people are just ones with lower rankings that aren't concerned with raising their ranks. Confidence is key, right?"
It wasn't funny when people gave up because they could never be enough. It wasn't funny when she had to watch society beat people down by telling them their soul was F-tier. That people were worthless, that people were dirt.

Was Andrael being sarcastic or not? The answer wasn't discernable from her tone of voice. She glanced back down at her notebook (blank, she could memorize basic schoolwork, thankyouverymuch), dropping the matter.

"We have Edeyas for a reason, it reflects our souls, it is a way for them to express themselves. Even if you have an officially low-ranked Edeya, every single one of them has their use! I think what Kinoko means is that the lower ranks encourage them to be more inventive and creative with their abilities. We have a Combat Rank separate from the Edeya Rank for a reason, flawed as the whole ranking may be." Fortevera's voice became more powerful the longer she went on, at the end she even had to catch a breath.

Buttercup pulls out a small paint palette, before taking out a sheet of paper and painting something. She rolled up the mini parchment, now complete with a sketch of Saeha, before stretching out her little plastic hands and handing the sketch over to Saeha.
The professor clapped, quieting them.
"...In the end, it doesn't matter. No matter what you believe, no matter how things are sorted, there is always the opportunity to grow."

The tear traced a glistening path down her cheek, an unspoken testament to the internal battles she waged within herself. She brushed it away with a swift and practiced motion, her movements almost mechanical as if she were programmed to keep her emotions at bay. The tear, a tiny betrayal of vulnerability, was swiftly dismissed, concealed once more behind the mask of rationality and control.
Andrael's gaze remained fixed ahead, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions, thoughts, and memories. The weight of the Professor's words reverberated through her, touching the core of her identity. Despite her outward appearance of detachment, there was an internal struggle, a battle between her analytical mind and the deeper currents of her heart.
As the moment passed and the classroom settled, Andrael maintained her stoic façade, a silent witness to the profound truth that the Professor's words had stirred within her.

Room to grow? Huh.
His smile was wry, the first sign of emotion he'd shown since the start of class.
"But of course, we'll have to talk about Mana Theory."
He clapped.
"Your textbooks are in your desks. Flip to page ten, please."
Saeha groaned.
"Professor... But Mana Theory is boring..."
