You slowly regain consciousness, and
you feel the warm heat of the desert, the gritty texture of sand
between your toes. Then, you realize, you didn’t live in the
desert. You fell asleep in a definitely not sandy place. You open
your eyes, and see a town, very unlike the one you had been in
before. You realize, something is not right.
Welcome to Night Vale
Everest woke up, this wasn’t his house. This wasn’t even near where
he lived, as far as he could tell. He slowly stood up, looking
around, there were others around, were they in the same position as
he was? Did they live here?
”Mysterious… surprising… and law-defying… Isn’t that
right?”
Cielo just wanted to sleep. But he realized he wasn't sleeping on
his comfortable bed anymore. Whatever he was laying on wasn't
comfortable at all. Quickly pulling himself to a sitting position,
he rubbed his eyes and took a look at wherever he was, because he
definitely wasn't in his house anymore. He frowned at the seemingly
endless sea of sand that was a desert. He glanced over at a town
nearby, which was unlike one he had ever visited. Oh well,
something was wrong and he didn't want to try to put the pieces
together as he was still a bit tired so he sat there, frowning at
the surroundings he had found himself in after waking from a rest.

Farinna... was the groggy morning person as always. When she woke
up, she did not even register the relocation. It wasn't until her
imaginary morning routine was interrupted by a slight irregularity
of sand, making her fall. Spitting out sand, the performer was
confused... and she notices the town ahead. And already taking the
first steps towards it.

Cielo responded with a quick shake of the head, brushing some of
the hair out of his face before speaking. "We're just as lost as
you are, if you couldn't tell by my confusion." He mumbled, adding
a scowl at the end. He woke up on the wrong side of bed. or, wait,
he didn't wake up on a bed...but you get my point.

“Ah.. that’s okay..! I was just hoping, you know..!” Everest said
awkwardly. “Um… my name’s Everest, what’s yours?” He smiled, hoping
he came off as friendly and not completely nervous
”Mysterious… surprising… and law-defying… Isn’t that
right?”
"Porter. Cielo Porter." He mumbled in response, brushing himself
off and standing up. He seemed to be frowning for the whole time he
had awoken. "Pleased to make your acquaintance." There was a hint
of sarcasm, just the slightest trace.

Sucrose lifted his head up from the sand, patting it a bit. After a
few moments, he seemed to realize that it wasn't his floor. Rolling
over on his back, placing his arm over his eyes with a groan. He
sat up and shook his head, running his hand through his hair to
make sure all the sand particles fell out. God, why was it so hot?
Sucrose blew his bangs out of his face and fanned himself, standing
up steadily. Where was he even?

“My name’s Everest Jenkyns! It’s nice to meet you too!” He took
what Cielo said at face value, looking out at the town. “Wow… this
place looks so…? I don’t know how to describe it…”
”Mysterious… surprising… and law-defying… Isn’t that
right?”
"We may as well ask where we are, if I have any sort of sense after
waking up on what could've been my death bed." Cielo sarcastically
said, gesturing towards the town. "Unless, and may I propose this
crazy theory, there's nobody inhabiting a random place in the
middle of the desert."

“Well it looks… lively… at least from a distance. I mean.. there’s
a radio tower? It looks like it’s in use? Actually…” He patted his
pockets, then sighed disappointedly. “…never-mind. It looks like I
don’t have my phone on me… I could have called my mom..”
”Mysterious… surprising… and law-defying… Isn’t that
right?”
Cielo sighed, almost dramatically. He looked like he was holding
back even more sarcastic stuff. "Well, we can go and see. Or wait
for everyone else to wake up." He muttered, eyes fixated on the
town.

“It’s hot… I don’t think it would be a good idea for us to let
anyone stay out in this heat… and I don’t even have sunscreen on!”
He put his hand to his head, distraught.
”Mysterious… surprising… and law-defying… Isn’t that
right?”
The sound of nearby voices seeps into Maverick's dreams, which
awakens him slightly. He frowns and groans. Rolling over to escape
the voices. "Five more minutes" he mumbles while placing a hand
over his face. But rather than feel a soft blanket against his
cheek, he feels rough sand.
He sits up quickly and glances around, cursing to himself. "Alright
guys" he says with his back turned to the ground. "Funny prank, I
fall asleep and you somehow take my unconscious body to the desert,
funny joke.." again he frowns. Nobody he recognized stepped out to
laugh at him, assuring him that this was a prank.
He glances behind him now, staring at the small group. "Aw man, did
your friends prank you too?" Maverick asks them with a chuckle.
"That's hilarious." He stands up and stretches his sore muscles.
"Man, sleeping on sand all night was a pain" he tells himself with
a groan. He glances around again, looking slightly irritated.
"Alright!" He calls out. "You can come out now! Come on guys, I
have work to do today!" His delighted chuckle disappears when, yet
again, nobody steps out to confirm his suspicions of this being a
joke.
"... Interesting" Maverick whispers to himself. "I'm assuming you
guys also have no idea where we are?" Maverick asks the group.
Farinna shook her head as well, holding her head a bit. She was
somewhat groggy, so her performance was behind closed curtains for
now. "So... we all woke up here... with no real ways of
communication, our phones are taken away... usually these kinds of
stories do not end well."

"Wait, so none of you guys live here?" Sucrose looked to everyone
before looking to the town. "Like, no one knows the name of the
town or anything? Ohh, that's not good."

“I doubt any of us do… what was the last thing you remember..? I
remember going to sleep, but that’s about it. Maybe some of you
have more insight?” Everest asked, unsure of everything
”Mysterious… surprising… and law-defying… Isn’t that
right?”
Staying silent, Maverick takes a moment to consider the events that
took place prior to him waking up. Well for starters, he had spent
almost the whole night working in the lab. Working well past his
allowed hours. He planned to use the excuse of him cleaning up the
lab. That's when he was kicked out by the security guard who knew
better.
What else? Ah, his friends had wanted to hang out with him, but he
went to bed instead, anticipating a long day at the lab tomorrow-
his instructor would've likely chewed him out for working without
his supervision. It appeared that, that wouldn't happen today.
"Same" Maverick replies simply. Nothing else seemed important, the
other events were his normal schedule. Fanning his face, he
gestures towards the town with his head. "Why don't we talk over
there? This sun is unbearable. Maybe we'll find a map, or something
to direct us towards where we are."
Farinna was unsure as well, going through her hair with her hand.
"Honestly, I don't know much either. Just... falling asleep." She
yawns again, nodding at the idea of going somewhere less bright.
"...let's just hope we're not going to end up dead."
