In the Beginning...
It was a blustery day, that first of September. The cool breeze brought the whisper of Autumn to the London morning, as the sun shone a bleary light through the clouds. Time passed slowly; each person meandering down the streets in a haze.
Some destinations were more important than others, and an entire generation of children were hurtling towards a reckoning with destiny. They had no idea that their coming of age was to test more than academics. They had no idea that their final exam would be to face a cruel and power-hungry Dark Lord, who would stalk them from across the sea. They had no idea that the world they lived in was not as prepared as it pretended to be.
High in a castle far away, a spectral figure stared out the window of the tower she was in. She alone could sense the danger her beloved school was in. And she knew something would need to change. But as a non corporeal being, there was very little she could do.
As she descended into the depths of the castle, she passed human, animal, and ghost alike, all preparing for the upcoming school year. None of them noticed her. The woman wasn't like normal ghosts; she had never lived a life in the human world like the rest of them. Her very existence was tied to the safely hidden cornerstone of Hogwarts and the magic the founders had used to create it. But she also had special powers - invisibility and premonitions among others.
She began to think. It wasn't like she could just leave the new students to muddle through this on their own. No, she would have to help them. Conflict was inevitable and they would need to be prepared.
She entered a certain little-known room on the seventh floor. The House Elves called it The Come-and-Go Room, wizards the Room of Requirement. She had fostered a rebellion here before, she could do it again. Using her ancient powers, she called forth the image that she wanted in her mind. All was prepared.
The final part of her plan was tricky: she would need to choose the right first-years for the tasks ahead. These students would need to have the right amount of bravery, intelligence, loyalty, and ambition to succeed. She took up a watch post in the room outside the Great Hall, and began to wait for the Scarlet Steam Engine to arrive. Lady Hogwarts would be ready.

Meanwhile, on Platform Nine and Three Quarters...
The students were arriving for the first day of term. Families crowded the platform. Many parents exchanged loving goodbyes with children; they would not see each other until the Winter Holiday. One could also spot the occasional muggle staring around in awestruck wonder at the platform around them.
The Hogwarts Express was parked on the tracks before them. The engine shone as if it had been built yesterday. The heat from the smoke clouded the platform making the air feel hot and heavy. Students had only just begun boarding. Most of them were prefects who were preparing their schedule to make rounds.
And it is on this platform where our heroes begin their journeys.

My current RP work:
Cupcakes are sweet,
Just like my heart!
As the sun glimmers,
My smile does too!
Candy and chocolates are nice,
but love is even better.
Now the moon glitters,
but my happiness still stands.
My cakes cook in the oven,
with vanilla and chocolate paste.
Strawberries are delicious,
and so are cupcakes too.
With them mixed together,
I give my love to you!
Let me tell you a secret,
The real monsters don't look like monsters~
The excitement in the air was infectious; freedom was finally in sight for the witches and wizards after a summer of chores, adventures, and memorable social events. Friends greeted each other with hugs and enemies gave each other curt nods. Many of the first years knew that it was extremely important to sit with the right people on the train, and began to board.
Still, a ghost waited in the faraway castle of dreams and magic.

My current RP work:
Wizard... what a weird thing to actually think. He had read about them in books but to believe they existed - but less that he was one...
Emerson's thoughts were interrupted as his dark blue eyes scanned the station. Platforms 8, 9, and 10. He looked again. 8. 9. 10. Perhaps he had read the letter wrong? Platform 9¾ - it was possible that he had misread but unfortunately he could not confirm or deny it. His father had ripped the letter in a fit of rage, leaving him no further instructions.
Was he at the right station? Emerson chewed on his lip, trying to think it through. Witches and wizards were not known to actually exist so that obviously had to mean they were hidden. But how?
"Excuse me." A large gruff man brushed passed him, forcing Emerson to look up. He was standing in the middle of Platform 9 looking like an absolute fool. With a quick apology, he slipped out of the crowd and rested his back against a brick column -- only to find himself falling through it.
Any ideas for who she could meet would be much appreciated!

Most of the older students already knew that technology wouldn't work at Hogwarts; the magic of the castle interfered with electrical and satellite signals of the more modern muggle technologies. While technological integration had come a long way from 1991, when the problem had first appeared, it had not yet been solved. Muggle-born students enjoyed their last uses of these amenities on the train ride. But in ten minutes, as soon as the train hit magical speeds, these devices would abruptly stop working.
[Rules of the World: No technology works at Hogwarts/other magic-saturated locations, the field working on the integration is called magineering, the trolley lady is not the monster from the cursed child, students physically can't leave the train because of ancient magical wards.]
