She handed it to him. She hadn't been lying about what was in
it.
"I'd prefer speaking somewhere less exposed than the library. You
can even pick the place. I don't know good spots anyway." Gone was
the cheery Ivy from earlier. In her place was the intelligent wit
of a competitor.
She looked at him curiously. "For some reason, I just thought you
would be rooming with Theo... but I suppose if he won't even admit
he likes you, it'll be some time before that happens~!"
"Haha, we're not friends~ good one." She entered into the room,
with a dramatic twirl. "Better close the door quick, or they'll see
you letting a girl into your dorm room,"
She waited for him to close the door. "Ask away Kendo~ we both know
you have questions..."
"I'm simply here to learn," she said, all pleasantries over. This
was merely a business action, complete with a contract. "I'm done
with the streets, on the straight and narrow if you can believe it.
Prophecy will die a quiet death. Everyone will assume someone else
ordered the hit, and I'll disappear into the academy."
She paused. "I've... done some... nasty things to make ends meet,"
she started haltingly. "We both know that, Neo. But as
Prophecy, I've never needed to kill. Coerce of course, but never
kill."
"Really. That's it? I thought you'd have more questions... you
know, as a Nexus guard." she paused, and made eye contact with him.
"I would say that I've changed, but as far as the spectrum of evil
goes, I was never that... evil. So I haven't changed. Just gained
the freedom to be less evil."
"I will answer your further questions now because you're
under contract. Think of it as an olive branch. And if you truly
have no more questions, then answer mine. Why do you care about my
identity, and why are you willing to let me go? You don't actually
care about this school, do you?"
"Hmmm... fair enough. I'll leave you in peace. Are we friends,
enemies, or... neither?" Ivy kind of wanted to be friends at this
point. He'd proved he was a decent enough human, and Theo seemed
cool too. But she understood that not everyone wanted to be friends
with... a criminal.
"...That depends on you." Kendo opened the door. "If you really
want to be friends, don't put anyone at this school in danger.
Especially not Theo. If you do, I'll make you regret it."
"Yep~ wouldn't dream of it. I already have a vested interest in the
ship! KendoThe? TheoKen? Which do you like better~?" Ivy was back
to smiles. No one from the outside world would ever know how close
she came to a prison cell that day.
I hope you're happy, Ivy. Your life just got a lot more
complicated...
I think it will be worth it, Akhmar.
It's time I had some real fun anyway.
