Emika Tenshi-Smith

Emika easily mounted the horse offered for her. She had learned to do so a while ago, when she was with her parents... She grimaced at the reminiscing and forced herself back to the present. She needed to forget the past... She had to help these people and the little girl...

Eris Everlast

Eris stared at the rat, not moving for several moments. She lifted her head at the sudden screech. Someone had opened the door of the dungeons? She listened carefully. No footsteps... Her attention was drawn to the water on the pipe. It had changed as well. Something was wrong... She was startled when the rat spoke again. "Elf?!" she thought to herself. "Did it say-" She didn't get to finish the thought as a burst of magic exploded behind her, throwing her forward.

In the Glen Dungeons

Footsteps approached the fallen girl, cold and clinical and confident. Someone knelt down by her side. Cold fingers prodded her throat, checking her pulse.

Then the fingers vanished and the person yelped in terror. "What in Cloudian's name-?" a girlish voice hissed. Magic flooded the air behind Eris. "A daemon? What's that doing here? Is that why-?"

"Elf," the rat hissed. "Elf..." Tension crackled in the air.

The wind returned to Eris.

"I am not an elf," the girl replied tensely. "I'm a human, and you, my friend, are an abomination. You and the girl will die, and I will-" her voice broke off. "She's awake. Are you kidding me-"

Upon receiving confirmation from the two, Raziel gave the horse the cue to move and led the group, his pace quickened from a walk to a canter as they left the safety of the stone gates and entered the land beyond. Instead of taking the longer route, Raziel decided to take his usual shortcut, through the forest, as it would cut him a day of traveling compared to the main path. As they advanced, the shadows of the buildings soon disappeared and were replaced by those from the trees. The ground began to become less clear, with roots bulging out of the soil causing uneven ground in places. At moments, a stray branch or two may smack the boy in the face, the small howl of the wind almost acting like the taunting laugh of nature. Raziel's eyes diverted between the map and the ground and occasionally the two behind him to make sure they haven't dropped dead yet. At times, he unconsciously glanced at the bushes and shrubs, his breath hitching at every small rustle or movement before he lets out a sigh of relief when he found out it was just a hare or rabbit.

Walk in nature should have calmed the boy, but the number of places to hide made it difficult for him to clear his mind.

He checked his map and compass again to make sure they were on the right track, they should be nearing the village soon where he'd drop the two before making his way to the dungeons himself. If they were quick enough, they'd make it to the inn well before nightfall. He increased the speed of his horse and galloped through the forest, determined to get there.

He had an uneasy feeling. Something, or someone, was watching him. A feeling of panic shook through his body as his heartbeats picked up. Something wasn't right.

He must just be overthinking, he thought. Maybe he was just being anxious. He peered to the side and the color left his face.

A red glow followed him through the shadows, the faint sunlight that escaped the canopy reflected onto the metal blades and revealed the small smile on the person's face. Raziel felt like he had doomed them yet again.

He was here.

Suko Nobu

Suko drew the reins closer to her chest, and guided the horse to trot alongside Raziel's. He was so on-edge, it nearly made Suko sigh. Couldn't he calm down and enjoy a nice epic quest?

"Hey," they said, trying to draw his attention. "You're real quiet, y'know that? Some flirty banter would really lighten up this trip." They grinned at him. "So, how about it? Y'wanna talk, or you just wanna inhale some fresh country air-" she sniffed, and it smelled like cow dung- "and die internally the whole time?"

They didn't mind, really! But you had to make the most of the moments. You had to live.

Her grip grew tighter on the reins.

Emika Tenshi-Smith

Emika listened to the chit chat coming from one of her new acquaintances. She smirked as she heard them sniff a little deep and say 'die internally'. It amused her to no end.

Eris Everlast

Eris involuntarily flinched when the person...a possible elf?... spoke. She could feel the magic that seemed to roll off the person. Wait, did she say daemon?? Was... Was that what the rat was? And hearing the female speak scared her. She didn't want to die! Oops, her consciousness was noticed...

Suko Nobu

Suko cast a suspicious look at the girl beside her. Strange. For a second there, I thought she was laughing at me... They leaned off their horse. Closer- closer-

Hm, they might fall off now-

"You have nice freckles!" they chirped to her.

Glen Dungeons

"Girl," the elf said coldly. "Sit up. I have an alternative solution to your death."

"ELF!" The rat roared. Light and dark magic met in the room, lashing against each other and screeching an uncontrollable wind. The elf stepped back, and her heel met Eris' shoe.

"Help me kill this thing!" she yelled over the wind. "And I'll drop you off for the B'ylth myself! Your village will be safe, and you'll get to live a little longer!" Her heel pressed into Eris'. "Get up!"

Emika Tenshi-Smith

Emika was startled at Suko's sudden comment. She frowned. She didn't have freck- She rubbed her cheek and looked at her hand. Stars above! It was blood from when she..... Emika quickly rubbed the blood from her face and wiped it off on her red skirt.

Eris Everlast

Eris was terrified. Who was this woman?! She cried out when the woman's heel stepped into her own shoe, even more so when it dug in. She didn't want to kill the rat, it had helped her... She shakily got up, favoring her uninjured foot.

Third Person POV

"Eh?" Suko tilted their head, puzzled. "Your freckles are gone now..." They reached across their horse to poke her cheek. By miracle of miracles, the one foot which remained on the horse's hip managed to keep the rest of their body from spilling onto the ground.

Or perhaps it wasn't a miracle, because Suko wouldn't stop poking Emika's face.

"Is this magic? Where freckles? What go? What magical freckles did you produce?"

"Halt!" someone barked.

Suko promptly fell off their horse.

Glen Dungeons

An arm seized Eris' and yanked her up. A pair of brown eyes met hers, a scowl set on a child's face. She couldn't be older than 15. Braids rested on her chest, tunic drawn tight against her slight form. She wasn't big at all-

And her ears were human.

"E-eeeelfff," the rat hissed. It glanced at Eris, then at the girl and bared its teeth. "Eeeeellff! Bree'thytaaa!"

"Breethya?" The girl echoed, unamused. "What? You think I can read minds, monster?" Her eyes narrowed. "No, that's your power."

The rat's magic vanished. It stared at her for a long moment. "Net... elf. Neth'elf."

The words had grown clear.

The girl scowled and turned to Eris. "So? Are you going to help me kill this thing or- Hey!"

The rat scurried up to them both and latched onto Eris' leg. Their attacker lunged for it, but it evaded her, scrambling up Eris' kimono and onto her shoulder. It grasped the fold of the fabric and nosed Eris' neck. "Neth," it growled.

Emika Tenshi-Smith

Emika was irritated by the poking, but she couldn't explain the blood... Luckily she didn't need to. Someone interrupted and Suko fell off their horse. This nearly made Emika laugh, but she kept it in.

Eris Everlast

Eris immediately moved to gently cup her hand around the rat. Her eyes were wide as she stared at the girl. Was she what the rat said she was; a Bree'thya??? And why did it say Neth'elf? What was it trying to tell her...?

Third Person POV

A large human man approached from the road. His eyes, deep set and narrowed focused on them. His bearded face twitched with agitation. As he withdrew his sword, the crest on his armour became visible.

The Houstans symbol.

He was a member of the military of Snavia. Supposedly placed on the Freysian border, pushing back the Water Fae and their slave army.

But instead, just outside of Briar Glen. Blocking the path with a large batallion emerging behind him.

Suko's head popped up from underneath their horse. "OW! You scared me!" They rubbed their nose ruefully. "You outta not yell at people out of nowhere, you know."

Glen Dungeons

The girl narrowed her eyes at the two of them. "So," she said coolly. "You're its ally, then?"

She gave a derisive snort, threw back her hair, and stormed over to the door. She hovered her hand over the lock, and in an instant it shattered into nothingness. The door swung open with a clang.

She glanced at Eris and the Daemon. "Come with me. I won't hurt you if you don't run."

The order snapped Raziel back to his senses.

Hastily pulling his horse to a halt, he stopped in front of the towering man, slightly shocked by the army behind him. He recognized the prestigious military symbol on the man and was about to feel relieved until he drew his sword. A swelling feeling of panic pulsed through him. Raziel had been through this path before and never once did he have to face one of the Kingdom's soldiers, let alone an entire battalion, glaring at them. He didn't get off his horse, even if he was taught to do so when meeting one of higher power as a sign of courtesy, feeling vulnerable if he got onto the ground. He did, at least, bow his head a little in respect, and hopefully getting the message that he meant only peace across.

"Greetings, what brings you here?" he questioned, his hands hovering over his rapier in case of sudden attacks, though his frail blade will almost certainly lose it a fight with the man's larger sword. But he hoped he wouldn't need to use it. He dearly prayed they wouldn't have to go down in bloodshed.

He hoped for peace, something so valuable which he never had the privilage to have.

Asmodeus stayed hidden.

Raziel had indeed spotted him and nothing gave the man more thrill than seeing the blood leave the boy's face. Bleached pale skin showed his terror as Asmodeus teasingly made himself known. He had long left Chervil's little hideout and had tailed Raizel ever since he left the town borders. He knew of the boy's plans, he chased him down like a hungry lion hunting it's prey.

He looked at the two people accompanying Raziel, one slightly more serious than the other. The one poking the other's cheeks seems interesting and as for the blood spots on the other's face, stupidly mistaken for freckles, made Asmodeus smirk.

Ah, a concealed bloodthirsty monster among the three. She looks like and interesting individual too.

Then came the loud signal, the voice ringing throughout the silent woods. The man almost felt dissapointed as Raziel's stare broke from him to the soldier blocking the path. The man almost let out an angry growl.

Stupid prey, keep your eyes on me, he wanted to say. Still, he remained silent, watching how the conversation would go. He couldn't tell if why the army came, whether they see the three as a threat or nothing more than mere passerbys. Twisting one of his numerous daggers on his right hand, he counted down the number of men.

You may well be strong in a pack, but numbers will never defeat me. The boy's blood is mine.

Emika Tenshi-Smith

Emika would have laughed at Suko's misfortune if it weren't for the question regarding the man in front of the trio; what was he doing here? This was nowhere near his place of duty...

Eris Everlast

Eris was utterly confused and terrified. What was this girl going to do? Would she... Actually take her to the B'ylth?! She didn't want to die! She hesitantly began to step forward, foot still in pain and the rat, the Daemon, still on her shoulder...

Shurkul

"I was stabbed."

He paused. That was... too abrupt. It needed more explanation. But honestly, there was nothing! What could he tell her? Oh yes, I just witnessed a murder in an alley and I was stabbed right after for no reason? Wait, that might actually work-

"There were dead people there," he added helpfully. "I mean- not like, in the ghosty sense. Eggh-" He shuddered. "Like in the corpsey sense, y'know?"

Brooksook Myel

The human girl was terrified out of her wits. Brooksook didn't let herself a moment of pity. It was pathetic, how she cowered from the blades of light that poured through the hole Brooksook had opened up. Didn't she want to be free? Didn't she see this was her best opportunity?

Brooksook half wanted her to escape.

The B'lyth could spend twenty years tracking this girl through the mountains.

But she shook the thought off. This was the clearer path. And the girl clearly didn't have the guts to formulate and follow through on an escape. Much less evade the B'lyth, if they wanted her.

The daemon is another factor.

She ground her teeth together and waited. She'd probably need to drag the sniveling girl out. And she would.

Suko Nobu

The newcomers weren't very happy people.

Their jaws were tight. None of them looked at their leader, a burly man with a long nose. He looked of noble descent- but the sadness on his face spoke of peasantry.

Wonder why he's here if he's so sad?

"We are on an assignment," the man replied tightly. With a gesture, the men behind him drew their swords. "Present your Merchants' License. Or turn back, and return to Briar Glen."

Eh? What's he know about Briar Glen? And why we gotta be merchants?

"We're on an assignment too!" Suko chirped. The man barely glanced at her. Well, then- "We're righting wrongs! Protecting the innocent! And also, we don't have weird smelly armour and obnoxious sword screeches when we draw on noble heroes. We're friends here, y'know?"

She hooked an arm through the horse's bridle and stroked its neck.

The man didn't move. "Present your Merchant's License," he repeated. "Or turn back."

Was the girl-? She had left the cell.

Brooksook bit her lip. Alright, then. I guess I owe her a bit of respect. Even if the daemon was the one influencing her... "Let's go. We need to get out of here before they actually assign guards to this place." She gestured the girl towards the light.

At least it makes the bar smell good, I guess.

Oh.
An orc.
As if I haven’t seen enough of those uncivilized creatures in the ghastly orc chasms of Asteriinyx.
...
Also, ale is for the weak.

Brushing the thought aside, Arioch smiled sweetly at the orc. “Hiiiiiiii~ Thanks for getting blood on the floor! I looooove the smell of it sooooo much~,” he said with an innocent tone.

He inhaled deeply, savoring the sweet, metallic smell of fresh blood.

Focus. Now is not the time for indulging in the scent of orc blood, even though it really should be. Go ask for vodka or something.

He took one more breath of the orc blood before turning away from it. "Oh, right! Does this bar sell Elfish wine? I need it for some totally-legal-and-not-murder-related purposes, eheheh~. Totally," he squeaked.
