DD, for the first time in a long time, felt terror. What in the name of the Gods was this?! Her mind started flipping through a list of creatures that it could be, but none fit enough. A harpy? A Stymphalian bird? A siren? None fit the description of this!! She wielded her gunsen and dagger immediately, ready for a fight.

His head jerked towards the sound as soon as he heard it, his eyes being met with the sight of an unfamiliar creature. Without him even thinking, hid hands reached towards the keychains on his belt, which summoned a throwing knife in his hand. At this point, his mind and body were too focused on this thing for him to still be concerned about the cold. The blanket fell off of him when his arm flied towards his trusty weapons, but, again, he didn't even notice. Quinn slowly backed away to be at a safe distance so that he could observe it, knowing that attacking probably wouldn't do much, especially if he was the one doing it.

Such a display would have usually gotten Dezerae to clap, applauding the aerial acrobatics. However, this was not the usual scenario. As soon as they registered what was happening, the demigod threw their duffel bag to the side, ripping their belt from their waist and flicking it downwards. After a moment, they held their rapier up before them, one hand clenched in a fist around the handle, the other out to the side. "Who's our strategist again? Because we need a plan of action, and we need it now." Dezerae stepped forward a few steps, eyeing the creature opposing the group carefully, evaluating it; sizing up their opponent no doubt, pointing out potential strengths and weaknesses, anything to gain an edge if battle did commense.

Cataneme looked at the threatening creature, jumping half a meter towards it and screeching like an eagle, with her imitation leaving to be desired. "Hawk! You don't scare me, now le-eeeeeeaaaa *sneeze*ve!" She opened her blanket now, flattering it around like a peacock and slowly moving sideways, away from the group. Her eyes kept going between the rest of the group and the avian aggressor.

You know the first rule in combat? Shoot them before they shoot you.

DD eyed Cataneme wearily. What was she trying to do? Intimidate the monster?? But suddenly, one creature's name filtered through her mind and matched the monster. A Strix. A creature that confused many, but was often seen as an ill omen. This did not bode well for their quest... For now though, they needed to do something about it. "Quickly!" she thought to herself, "What can be done?! The records don't mention any sort of weaknesses, but they also don't mention any strengths either... But maybe..." She shifted her stance to appear nonthreatening, to test her theory...

Coughing, Alaparos wheezed as he lay on his back. His legs pulsed with pain as he forced himself to scramble up on his feet. At least he had his cane to help him up as he tried to get a good look at the bird like creature that had attacked them. Around him, his quest mates were doing... questionable things. On one hand, Dez seemed the most calm while DD (or Emika? He didn't know which name to call her by now) looked ready to either run away or dart forward and throw hands with the bird. The most mind boggling of them all was Cataneme hooting and hollering. For the daughter of a someone who held domain over Poison and Sadness, Cataneme was a whirlwind of chaos, causing more strife than Dezerae. "We could always just run?" He suggested weakly

"That's what I was trying to tell you!" Cataneme pouts, grabbing into her pockets and pulling out some leaves she had collected earlier before getting an idea. Resuming her facade of a peacock, she walked further from the group, once in a while screeching like a peacock in a woodchipper whenever the creature turned around and even throwing projectiles like small rocks and snowballs at it, before attempting her first demi-god strategy:
Using the leaves she had in her pocket, she encased a snowball in them and took a deep breath, throwing it at the aggressor and hoping that the minute amounts of poison had any effect.

DD slid her weapon closed, not putting it away just in case. The creature wasn't attacking, was Cataneme's method working?? Then again, what good would a snowball do? Maybe it was poisoned?? Since Cataneme was a daughter of the goddess of sorrow and poison, it was possible. Hopefully the snowball didn't aggravate the Strix...

With a screech, the monster reeled back but it didn't stay that way for long. Lunging forward, a wickedly hooked beak narrowly missed the group of half-bloods. The poison didn't seem to affect in more so that it aggravated the already annoyed bird as it let out another ear piercing caw. Inky feathers spread out and the Strix took to the skies, each downstroke buffeting the party with whirling winds. "Uh, I think we run." Alaparos coughed and before anyone could say otherwise, he turned around and began running. It was a bit difficult considering the buffeting air but run he did, towards the highway as the Strix cawed behind them, preparing to rain down upon them pain with a vengeance.

DD pocketed her gunsen and followed Alaparos in retreating. She knew they wouldn't get very far with the weather conditions and this beast's advantage of going through the air rather than running, but it was the best they could do without a real plan or real defensive measures. "Defensive measures you say~?" DD twitched a bit at the sudden appearance of her, but she forced herself to ignore the other entity and focused on the current creature that was a threat to herself and the other quest-goers.

"Well, that didn't work..." Cataneme was now at the disadvantage, being the furthest from the group and the Strix closer to them than she was. Starting to run through the strong winds, it took some considerable time before she was able to pick up some speed. Clearly, another plan was necessary in her mind and while the non-existent brain cells of hers started smoking, the daughter of sorrow came up with a much simpler idea: Throwing a bottle full of water right behind to coat the path behind in a thin veneer of ice.

DD was fast, surprisingly fast in the weather conditions. Her past made running important to her games... She shook her head of the thought, now was not the time to think of that. They needed to stop the Strix and continue their mission.

"Have at thee!" Cataneme yelled, now infused with a weird sense of protective instincts, launching herself on top of the Strix by unintentionally forming heat under her feet, as she just decides to... punch it wherever possible, preferring weak spots. "Nobody hurts my potential friends!" Cataneme sounded angry, and just gave quick jabs and headbutts, while screaming like a fierce viking.

DD felt incredulous. Cataneme was going crazy on the Strix, put and screaming like a banshee! They needed to do something about the bird and they needed to do it fast!

Standing in the midst of chaos, Suvansh eyes between Al and everyone who was retreating, and Cat, and however heart-warming her words were, he couldn't do anything but feel it to be stupid. They couldn't kill a strix- more would come after them if they did, if he remembered correct from his classes on the mythical beasts. And while very tempted to just take on Al's offer to run, he needed to make sure Cat did too. And so he did what anyone would do in front of a giant bird that might very well be able to eat them whole, he took out his katana. And ran towards the bird, while shouting at Cat and any other staggerers to run. He knew he needed to run away quick, one talon scratch and he would be good as dead, but the adrenaline ensured that he let the bird back for the others to escape, slashing out at the bird when it clawed at him, trying to neither get a scratch, nor to kill the bird.

"You keep slashing, I keep hitting! AAH!" Cataneme screamed, suffering a hit and sporing a laceration on her back. This... only enraged her more, with her now probably sporting even more rage than the Strix itself, as she started clawing right back, before getting a hold of it's "head" and giving it's eyes a few jabs. Adrenaline rushing through her veins, all thought left behind, Cat's hand shined in a purple glow, the power of Achlys suddenly in her palm, as she deals one powerful hit that left behind a strong poison, even capable of perforating the toughest of metals.

Quin watched silently as everyone else went ham trying to deal with the beast, while all he did was stand there and do nothing. He knew it was probably best to listen and run while the 3 gave them time, but he couldn't just leave them, right? Then again... Dealing with this monster wasn't the easiest thing to do, and simply killing it wouldn't do much. He sighed and relaxed himself, taking his hands away from his weapons and quickly wrapping himself up before moving further away. "You heard them, come on!" He had turned back to gesture at the rest to do as he did, when he noticed an explosion of purple where Cataneme was, almost instantly stopping him.

DD's head whipped around as a purple explosion from Cataneme came forth. The coloration made sense, but it was the explosion that shocked her. How had that just happened?!

"Fight me! You can't!" Cataneme yelled, completely ignoring her explosive punch, instead hitting another one of those right into the eye sockets of the Strix before she finally got flung off of it, right towards the ground. Standing up, she laughs a little, both in euphoria and pain. "If you wanna run... let's do it now?"

DD doubled-back, breaking her private rule of "every person for themselves" to grab Cataneme's arm and help her, knowing she was likely in pain from getting thrown to the ground. No matter who she was the daughter of, getting hurled into the ground was NOT pleasant. "Come on!" she cried, rushing with the girl in tow.
