Unfortunately, the Espeon seemed to have passed out from exhaustion, but Floria couldn’t be sure. She was determined not to leave her behind though, and would carry her on her back if she had to, despite the Espeon being fairly larger than her. She kept her ears perked, catching on to Linii’s confidence and enthusiasm, and she could tell the others were picking it up as well. She smiled to herself and followed Linii’s directions, being careful not to make too much noise. They didn’t want to alert Team Rocket of their plans, or else this all would have been for nothing.
Ribbon’s train of thought was interrupted by a splitting headache. He grunted and flinched, putting his forepaw against his head. Squeezing his eyes shut, the headache continued, slowly becoming more and more painful. Something was wrong, and it sent a wave of panic through his body. He shook his head but that did little against it. He growled at himself, getting a few strange looks from other Pokémon nearby. He laid down and closed his eyes, trying his best to focus his energy. It couldn’t happen now! What had happened to trigger it?? He growled again, but the growl surprised him. He didn’t tell himself to do that. He could tell he was slowly losing his grasp on it. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, focusing on bringing himself out of it. He hadn’t completely fallen in yet, so maybe he could pull himself out. After a few short seconds he opened his eyes and the headache subsided. He let out a breath of relief and stood up, his ears twitching.
She saw him shaking his head as if to clear it, and then he looked a bit embarrassed. Margo took a shaky step towards the flareon, and, seeing that she could walk properly, wobbled over to him. She sat down in front of him and cocked her head slightly to the side, swishing her tail.
She reached out and placed her paw over his and looked him straight in the eye, not caring about the heat or his strangely colored eye.
She spoke softly, in a strange, lulling kind of way. She was attempting to calm the flareon whose name she knew not by sending waves of clarity through his mind, drawing a little bit of power from her leafeon self.
“Concentrate on me. You’ll be just fine, it’ll be ok. Just think about something else, don’t let it take over. Take deep breaths, force it out of your mind, ok? It won’t do any good if you start to panic.”
Zaru looked at her quizzically and he shook hands with her, *Name's Zaru. I'm surprised we got out of these cages so quickly. It seemed as if we were going to be here forever.*
Linii listened to the Zeraora's sad words. He seemed lonely. *Yeah....*she began and suddenly remembered something. *Hey, what's your power?* she asked excitedly.
Zaru smiled. *Look...* he extended his right arm and summoned a ball of light. He put it on Linii and waited, *Wait for it...*
Linii suddenly felt her adrenaline levels increasing, her heart rate beating quickly. Her whole body tingled with power. *Power Amplifier?* she guessed. The Zeraora nodded. *Oh wow, my amplifiers can't do this and they were made by scientists!*
A feeling that he had not felt in what seemed like years now lit up his heart, and he did his best to force it back down. However, he did let a little bit of it stay, for even with his doubts and cautions, he didn't really want this feeling to go away.
Looking down at this shiny Eevee, the Pokemon that had started this whole escape thing, staring directly into her eyes, he hoarsely whispered, "Thank you."
His voice sounded scratchy and dry, just as his mouth felt, but as he stared into this powerful Eevee's eyes, he suddenly no longer felt so alone.
Floria had noticed the shiny Eevee helping the Flareon whom she had freed earlier, and she felt a twinge of guilt. But she couldn't help everyone, even if she was trying. As she hurried through the Pokemon, making sure no one was too badly hurt, her ears picked up on a multitude of conversations, some skeptical, others sorrowful, most hopeful and excited. She was glad everyone seemed to be getting along, and as she kept her eyes on the suspicious Flareon, she started to realize that maybe he wasn't so bad after all.
She finished up with the last Pokemon and went over to a space that was a little ways away to where Linii and a shiny, much powerful-looking Zeraora stood, talking, and waited for the Flareon and the Eevee to be finished so she could check on them both separately. She sighed and closed her eyes, but kept her ears perked for anything new or important. The longer they stayed down here, the higher the chance they have of being caught again by Team Rocket. She flicked her ears as anxiety slowly crept up into her throat, but she forced it back down and continued patiently waiting. They had come so close! There was no way she was chickening out now.
"Guys! I want you all to focuses your mind on a star! If you rage into battle, you become recless!"
She wanted till she knew they all were trying, then used her last leafeon energy to send a wave of calmness and clarity over all the pokemon.
Finishing his cry, he turned and, helping the now-Leafeon so she didn’t get left behind as her energy was noticeably low, he led them all towards the way out.
Floria was scared they would be overwhelmed- there were just so many of them! With a snort, she blew fire at the grunts, pushing them back. She noticed others struggling, and Linii got a splash of water in her face. Rushing over to help, she fought off the Team Rocket grunts that were threatening to overwhelm her friend. She then made sure that Linii and the new Zeraora was ok, when she heard a voice speak up. She looked back and saw the Flareon speaking out to them, and she agreed with him. These vines wouldn’t hold for long. She could tell in his eyes that something was wrong, though. She whispered to Linii, ”We don’t have another way out so we should follow him, just be on guard. I have the feeling something’s gonna go wrong.”
And with that, she turned and dashed off, following the Flareon and all the other Pokémon as they rushed for the opposite end of the cages, spotting an exit door.
He could tell others didn’t trust him, and they had good reason not to, but he was done taking so many close calls. With a huff, he led the group forwards once more, through the dark passageway and up the stairs. They had barely started ascending the stairs when Ribbon’s ears twitched and he heard the vines burst. “Hurry!” He shouted, and raced forwards, not waiting to see if they were following, still carrying the Leafeon on his shoulder.
Floria darted her way across the area, following the Flareon skeptically. When they made it through the exit door, Floria shivered, her fear of the dark starting to creep up on her, but she knew that any light would give them away. If, y’know, the open exit door didn’t do it enough. She sighed and pushed forwards, and upon hearing the vines snap, panic filled her chest and she raced forwards, following the Flareon’s advice to hurry. She glanced back to make sure Linii and the Zeraora were alright, and they seemed to be, but it was at that moment Team Rocket burst into the hallway and started chasing them. She yelped in fear and dashed up the stairs. Most of the Pokémon were climbing the stairs by now, and if they weren’t they were almost there. The ones at the back had started to fend off the Team Rocket grunts with their moves, but it wouldn’t be enough. She raced faster up the stairs, only checking behind her ever so often to make sure her friends were still ok. Panting hard, she climbed more, beginning to grow tired.
