When humans don't follow the systems in place, perhaps this is natures' way of teaching them a lesson.
Evaporation. Condensation. Precipitation. Infiltration.
Except, when the water sources are contaminated from the waste that we discard into them...
Storm Z: the strongest and deadliest storm of the year.
It started as just a bit of drizzle. But as the sky darkened the rain only grew heavier.
Gale winds began to shred through towns and cities, knocking out all power.
Drains, unable to accommodate the excessive rainfall, began to overflow causing flooding.
Then there was the odd stench of death in the air that was left when the storm finally calmed a week later.
That was a year ago.
Disease caused by the contamination had spread, slowing the recovery processes.
What seemed like a common bug, evolved horrifically as the sick turned against their own kind.
Although their flesh began to rot away, they were still very much living.
Their speech turned into grunts and gargles. The way they walked with so little emotion.
The way they savagely feasted on... anything they could catch.

Sherbury, Thorn
Characters will start off in Sherbury, Thorn. It's a quiet, port town with a couple of hundred inhabitants and is occupied, mostly, by small family-owned businesses. Thorn in mostly flat, grassland, with deciduous forest in the north-west and mountain ranges in the north-east.

Milton, Wineria or Holdock, Ortonia
Passing through the woods will take the characters to Wineria, a county known for its numerous farms, Milton being it's richest when it comes to success. It's possibly one of the oldest still-running farms to-date. Wineria's grassland transforms into a winter wonderland as one would venture off into the east. It shares a mountain range with the neighbouring county Thorn and the vast snowy tundra named Hazion.

Following the main road south, however, will eventually take you to Holdock, Ortonia. Holdock is a popular camping ground located within the dense woodland of Ortonia. Many come here to use the log cabins for vacations. North Ortonia borders with Hazion whilst the main road, heading further East, will lead you to Cleobury, Cleo.

Newcester, Kideria or Cleobury, Cleo
Newcester is the closest city to Sherbury, requiring just a short journey through Wineria. Kitted out with the largest shopping mall in the region, it's own hospital, police station, it's also a maze of towering apartment blocks. Newcester has the largest population compared to all the other residential areas, possibly due to the availability of work.
(Adv: Great opportunity for supplies. Dis: Zombies.)
Cleobury, in contrast, is the lowest populated residential area in the region. Being a village that is often forgotten about, it was once the heart and birthplace of the county of Cleo. There, sits a castle that was home to a King many centuries ago. But if people don't remember it for its royal history, it's remembered for the abandoned horror-house of an orphanage and the cemetery that stands just on its outskirts. Rumours suggest that the director abused the children, killing them and then hid their bodies in the cemetery.

Oakleigh is mostly dense woodland which is harvested for its high-quality timber. The open space that has been created in the south, has developed into the modest mining community: Orbury. A deep quarry used to reside there but, because of recent events, it has filled with water. Since the storm, the laboratory here is one of the handful of things that have been built. They claim to be doing tests on water sources around the region, but is that really all?
Hazion is the large ice sheet in the north of the region. There isn't really much to explore out here besides the military base, of which entry is forbidden to the general public. It's an achievement in itself if one can even locate the base through the harsh blizzards without straying off the road. Besides, everything looks the same under 2 feet of snow.

Oria Takara: a pale (if ignoring her panda eyes) willowy female, standing at around five foot and seven inches tall. Looking closer, if she’d even allow it without some sort of confirmation that you weren’t sick, her light eyes are a washed-out cyan colour. Although often styled half-up-half-down, Oria’s dusty-lavender-hued hair is long enough to reach down past the small of her back.
Her lab coat is something she pretty much lives in, a second skin almost. However, the white material is now tainted by stains from working, as well as trying to survive whilst doing so. Still, it does its job, protecting the pastel green blouse she wears beneath it. Her uniform is completed with a black (just above) knee-length pencil skirt and, replacing what would usually be a casual pair of heels, a pair of leather boots, leaving only the caps of her knees exposed.

Unaware that she is no more than a simple pawn being used by a higher power to fulfil her father's unfinished work, Oria strives to work at the best of her ability truly believing it would make him proud. She’s capable of keeping up a confident and professional front when it comes to her job. However, only those who are close to her may get to see her more awkward and scatterbrained self - especially when deprived of coffee.

Character Name: Perun Ravencrone

Perun's long, gangly limbs make them look a bit like a folding chair, but upon closer inspection, you would find their freckled body to be actually quite muscular and threatening to pull you into a dance at any given moment.
Blessed not only with tanned skin and dark freckles, they have a wide nose and high cheekbones that give them the impression of particularly foxy fae, the illusion only marred by the prominent, pink-ish scar running from the far-right of their chin, all the way above their upper lip.
Perun's frizzy rust-colored hair is all braided into two messy french braids and then both tied together at the back of their head.
All around pretty, in the smiling-wide, dandelion behind the ear way. That all pretty is rivaled with dark clothes straight out of dehydration-induced hallucinations of old westerns.
They wear black high-collar, button-down shirt with white (well, as white as it can be during zombie apocalypse) embodiment of vines and several tassels at the front, complete with black jeans sporting whitish chaps to protect from underbushes and long and tipped off with bulky gloves and muck boots.
And of course, its all topped off with a black hat tied beneath their chin, one with a flattened crown and extremely wide brim.
Pulled around all that they wear a beaten-up cardigan with wide, open sleeves and belt high around their waist. Its vintage pattern and feel is betrayed by the fact that instead of cotton, it is actually waterproof nylon- and wonderful insulator, what more could a cowboy ask for during a zombie apocalypse.
Personality: When standing near Perun, it's almost too easy to forget the trials of the world. They speak in great admiration of the world around them, both natural and human-made, current or past (despite their few,, passionate hang-ups with that one.). They hope to someday be a part of the restoration of the past, but better on a second try- they have a particular fascination with keeping old stories and songs alive, recording them all into their diary.
Their everyday attitude is comparable to that of a child on the first day of school, undeniable curiosity, bordering on maddening optimism and acceptance rather than denial to the less stunning parts of life. As time went on, it became hard to untangle if all that cheeriness is real or if it all was at first only a mask- This too is met with Perun's acceptance, and though promptly shelved and moved on from.
If it used to be a mask, then separating it would be impossible now- In their mother's company and her happiness in seeing understanding and familiarity in her own child, Perun's own inherited mental illness was let to grow as it pleased, with the realization of its existence only dawning on Perun now.
Truly, it reads as if they are playing a character in a story of their own story, unconscious making- Sometimes, you might be more than happy to let them get sidetracked, just to be pulled into their light-filled world.
Other times, you might just decide that a harsh reality check is in place- But i warn you, Perun and harsh emotions do not mix well and getting sidetracked will be the last of your problems, as Perun faces rapidly spiraling emotions and paranoia.
Occupation: Farmhand, but these days they feel like more of a gatherer, saving what they can.
They used to study specifically to be a garden architect, but one has to lend a hand everywhere nowadays...
Known Family: They have an extended - and quite huge, for these times - family, all working on a farm in Thorn. Ravencrones prominently pick up hardworking strays, and while they are accepted and take on their surname, there is a deep hierarchy that outsiders aren't privy to.
Most prominent members include: Mama Opi, the family's elderly matriarch. Known for her storytelling and devil-may-care attitude toward current,, issues. Despite her conservative beliefs surviving the apocalypse, both Perun and their mother learned much from her.
Balador: Perun's dearest 'brother', the two grew up close but his decision to 'marry-up' to get a better place in the family was the final straw that pushed Perun away.
Ivana: Perun's distanced mother. Despite the two having beautiful friendship throughout Perun's life, after Storm Z their mother lost herself in desperate re-creationist work and untreated mental illness, leaving Perun to mostly fend for themselves- despite that, they still love her dearly and carry the few saved photos around.
Starter Weapon: Makeshift-spear, consisting of rusted hand-held sickle tied to a brach with leather straps. It really does tug more than it cuts- Someone clearly didn't care enough to let Perun take a proper tool. Good for keeping some distance but trying to jab it into someone would be a death sentence- for both the sickle and the wielder.
Other: * Perun was already planning on leaving Thorn and their home, sharing the same aspiration as their mother before her own health anchored her to the farm- they stole few not-native seeds saved from flooding that the Ravencrone was planning on monopolizing for and hope to spread them around.
* Particularly good at sketching and general campfire shenanigans if you put a guitar in their hands- But oh, someone give this poor fool some combat/hunt training.
* The mentioned mental illness/es in question will be left unclear for now, as i still have research to do and don't want to link my own mishaps to already demonized illnesses.

Mika describes himself as not being able to accomplish anything and that he is only a ‘doll’ used to obey orders, however, he is able to complete many things on his own without the guidance of any others. He is not good with controlling his emotions; most of the time they control him instead. While he may be bad with expressing emotion, his true intentions always get out sooner or later whether it’s on accident or on purpose.
He is also an extremely hard worker, and often finds it hard to take breaks, often throwing away his own physical well being in order to work. He shows extreme amounts of loyalty to his friends and will do almost anything for those he cares about, being very devoted to his idol unit in particular. When he loves something he never lets it go and never takes back his word.

Shu can be perceived as arrogant, dishonest, and selfish, while still kind and caring at heart. He is quite a fussy and short-tempered person with a desire for perfection at all times even in such perilous times. His snappy manner of speech always pushes people away from him and elevates him above everyone else, repeatedly claiming that he has no need to receive aid from anyone else. Despite these claims, he also is very desperate to find some sort of cure for Mika.
He has a habit of overworking himself, often having a very extreme one track mind when it comes to tasks. Once he has put his mind to something, he won't back out often giving 120% into everything he does.

The last body, the last person, that entered these catacombs was not recovered. Not in one piece at least, or so she had been told.
It was not a very reassuring start to an investigation as this was.
With only a headlamp and her own tactile senses as guidance, the black-haired fae joined the rest of her team, her skin crawling uneasily with the claustrophobic surroundings. The musky, oppressive odor of death clung to her senses and made her heart pound. The officers had thought that it would be a good idea to send her in, given that she took Death and any new fatal incidences in stride, but right now, she was regretting it. The dreary atmosphere enveloped her, but it did not cause her to wither in the least. She'd seen a little too much for someone her age...but it all played out. Eventually.
Eden had a very personal relationship to death, you could say. Almost as if she were its Harbinger...

Eden is a very…closeted character, not revealing much about herself, and refusing to pry into others business. She holds others at a distance due to being stigmatized for many years. Usually coming off as cold, cruel, brutish, and aloof, Eden's loyalty is hard to earn, but once you do earn it, she's loyal to the grave. Why you would even want to stick around her is a mystery. Eden has always been a haughty and reclusive presence. Observant and headstrong as she is, she has a dangerous cynical mindset with no shortage of pride, sarcasm, or just plain defiance. You'll never find a fae more down-to-earth. Second chances to her are absolutely non-existent, and she’s known to bear a vengeful grudge that more often than not results in her killing the offender outright. Otherwise, Eden has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor, happily picking light fun in a satirical manner. Eden is very stern, direct, and cunning; brutish in a sense. Eden is also rather...eccentric? Is that the word for it? The most unnatural and natural things speak to Eden in an esoteric language. She can listen to nature itself, and the shadows coo in her presence. But the most notable thing about her is how she can mask her emotions. Her eyes...they're haunted and ... dead. As if she's seen horrors that no child, no one should ever have to endure. And yet Eden stands strong...even if she lost herself a long time ago.

Eden is a lean and strong girl with dark storm-blue eyes that look nearly black and relatively fair skin. She is quite tall as well, about 5'7''. She has long ebony hair that is usually kept down - she also rarely cuts her hair so it drops to her collarbones. She wears a loose dark grey-blue shirt and leather jacket, as well as tight-fitting pants. She usually wears a dark form-fitting cloak with a cowl that hides her face; supplies are kept in her pockets. She keeps a leather pouch for supplies, and two scabbards on a belt for weaponry.
Backstory:
Eden was born to a rather..complicated situation, though she knows that she was mostly raised in an orphanage. Most of her memory was lost due to the unorganized and somewhat unhinged state of matters. She never knew her parents and lived with a foster family with two half-siblings. She often felt troubled by what she did not know, and her foster family was not precisely people Eden got along with; she was often ostracized for being of a different birth family. Not to mention her parents were distant-often fighting or putting her in stages of neglect. What little peace she had was broken when three zombies ripped down her home and mortally wounded her two foster-parents and one of her foster brothers just as Eden came home from the marketplace. She was the one who knelt over their broken bodies still as a doe in headlights, shocked beyond words. They were barely recognizable; the whole family was mangled and ruined beyond belief; their eyes, like dark pits, carved hole into Eden's head. The townsfolk accused her of bringing in bad luck to the family; these issues with the parents had only started when she came along. Even her youngest adopted brother was shaking in terror, absentmindedly dropping the food into the mud; neither noticed. Made an outcast, Eden left her home immediately, though not out of her own will. Instead, a bounty hunter agency noted her precocious skill in combat, kidnapped Eden, and turned her into a deadly weapon. Darkness was quick to bloom in the young girl's heart, and eventually, she developed a ruthless reputation. But there were other forces at play, and ultimately, her brutal upbringing honed itself into the cruel blade of vengeance; their screams for mercy and agony still echo in her ears to this day. She now works as a free agent, living her life in a secluded cove, dark as hell. Her own kind of sanctum, and nobody who has disturbed the beast who lurked there has ever left to tell the tale.
