Ethan felt anxious, but he had to learn to control the ability. He began to steady himself more, feet spread evenly apart, arms at the ready. "As ready as I'll ever be."
Crystal began by throwing the first ice shard. It flew directly towards Ethan. He concentrated, imagining the shard teleporting. And poof. The shard disintegrated into smoke, dust residue falling to the ground. Ethan spun around just in time to see the shard reappear in a puff of smoke, crashing into the wall and breaking into pieces.
"Good. Now let's see if you can handle a few." She said as three more ice formed, flying directly towards him. He raised his hands again, concentrated, and poof. They all became smoke again. And then crash. The shattered against the wall.
"I'm finally getting the hang of this." I said with a smile. "But I still don't understand how the smoke causes it to teleport."
"To my understanding, the smoke itself, is a gateway. The smoke creates a rip in space. The object therefore bypasses through space itself. Therefore reappearing where the smoke, yet again, creates another rip in space for it to travel through." Crystal replied as she threw another ice shard towards him.
"I think I get it." Ethan said as he caused the next ice shard to teleport.
"It seems you are capable of moving objects when they are dangering your life. But let's see if you can move an object at your own will, and to where exactly you wan tit to go."
Crystal unsheathed a small knife from under her cloak. She placed it on the floor. "The knife, I want you teleport it from where it is now, to over there." She said, pointing towards a small podium at the centre of the room.
"Okay." Ethan began to focus on the knife, picturing it beginning to teleport. Nothing was happening. Then he remembered, he had to put emotion behind it. He tried to remember the emotions he felt, his life hanging in the balance. Suddenly, the knife began to turn into a purple smoke, quickly vanishing into the air.
He pictured the smoke appearing above the podium, and almost instantly it died. As the smoke began to dissolve, the knife became visible.
Crystal walked over the the podium. "The knife is in perfect condition. Excellent. It seems you are able to move objects now at will. I believe you are ready for the next step; teleporting yourself."
Ethan was quite pleased that he had finally gained some control over the ability. But that soon disappeared as he began to feel weak. His head was aching. He felt dizzy. He understood why, all the use of his abilities had drained the energy from him. He needed to rest. Then it all went black.
"You almost ready?" Aroura asked.
Finally! Gabriel thought as Samson began to move. He had to time this just right. Too early and Aroura would insist on him saving the pair, too late and Samson might hurt her.
Samson followed them as they walked. Better to strike where there weren't any others around. From the sound of their conversation, they were headed to a park. Perfect.
When they got to the park, Aroura defiantly knew there was something wrong. She kept glancing behind them. When Synthia asked what was wrong, Aroura smiled and caulked it up to nerves.
Gabriel followed Samson as he stalked his prey.
"Come on!" Gabriel whispered under his breath. "Get on with it!"
Her fans where out. She attacked, hoping to catch the man off guard. She sliced his throat and as he lay bleeding, she ran back to Evander.
"Oh my god! I-what do I do?" Aroura screamed, applying pressure to the wound. Suddenly, she was yanked back by her hair.
Synthia was on the ground next to Evander, stunned. She didnt know what to do. She stared at the ugly wound in his stomach. She could feel a hatred boiling in her that she had always try'd to repress. Now she welcomed it. Standing she turned to the man who had stabbed her brother and threatened her friend. Her teeth sharpened, and her eyes glowed red like before. Now though the horns protruded about a foot and a half, and her nails became talons. She open her mouth and roared. (imagine a T-rex)
"Synthia! Run!" Aroura shouted, throwing all of her weight at the stranger. "Please! Go! Get John!"
She couldn't believe she had actually said it, but that didn't matter! All that mattered was that Synthia get help and Aroura kept this guy from Evander. He was gasping for air now.
Thinking Synthia wasn't a threat, the guy tossed Aroura off like a sack of potatoes. He turned to go after Evander. "I'd just stay down, girly!"
"No!" Aroura dragged herself towards him. With the last of her strength, she throw herself over Evander, shielding him with her body. "Don't you dare die on me, Locklear!"
Come little children, I'll take thee away. Into a land of enchantment. Come little children, the times come to play, here in my garden of shadows...
Samson turned towards the kid. 'What is she?' He thought, slightly disturbed by her appearance. He fired a shot at her. Holding out her hand, the bullet deflected. She continued singing
Hush now dear children, it must be this way. To weary of life and deceptions. Rest now my children, for soon we'll away, into the calm and the quiet...
Gabriel watched from a nearby building. When Synthia turned his eyes widened startled at the transformation. When the singing started he began to worry. Should he try to stop her? No, Samson could handle it.
A black portal opened behind Synthia as the song was close to finishing.
Come little children, I'll take thee away. Into a land of enchantment. Come little children, the times come to play here in my garden of shadows!
A massive white creature burst through the portal. It looked vaguely like a human that was hunched over, but it had four tentacles protruding from its back. It's mouth looked more like a tear in its face, and it had no visible eyes. Samson bolted. The creature turned to Synthia, making a soft groaning noise as it caressed her face with a tentacle "I missed you too." She said, "but I need your help." she pointed at the fleeing Samson. "That man stabbed Evander." The thing looked at Evanders still body and let out a furious roar, before running off after Samson
"Locklear! Locklear! Come back! I-I need you!" Aroura screamed at him. The last bit was a whisper. She hoped Synthia would return soon. Evander's life depended on it!
"Get off of-" She began to yell at him. She realized he was actually healing Evander.
When he groaned, Aroura felt like she could breath again.
"Locklear!" She sobbed, hugging him. "Don't you ever scare me like that again! I was so worried!"
Aroura pulled Synthia into the hug. So glad the girl was safe, Aroura didn't even noticed the change in Synthia's appearance.
Synthia sat next to John, who sat up with a grunt. He looked at her with questioning eyes. "I sang a song." She said with a guilty look on her face. "You called a monster?" He asked. She nodded. John put his arm around her shoulder, hugging her. "You have nothing to be sorry for, dear child. You probably saved Evanders life. If I hadn't felt your energy pulse he would have died. He looked curious for a moment then asked, "Which one did you call?" Synthia smiled. "He looks a little funny, but I would recognize Slendy anywhere!" John looked confused. "Slendy?" The creature appeared through the trees, blood dripping from its jaws. John gasped pushing himself back a few feet. "The Tall Man!"
"Guess we'll have to try again." She whispered, leaning closer to him. Now that the danger was gone, she felt exhausted.
"NO!" Gabriel screamed to the heavens. "That stupid, no good idiot! I told him to mind the girl!"
He was furious that Samson had failed.
Evander stared at the monster for a moment. It looked so familier, but he didn't know why. Memorys flooded into his mind. A forest, pieces of paper, a fight! Then a tall thin man in a suit, with a large house behind him. Evander smiled, placing his hand on the creatures arm. "Hello my old friend."
(This is what Tall Man looks like by the way)
"Everything is fine," she began, "You just overused your abilities a little. It happened to everyone when the first learn to control their abilities, as you progress, you'll rarely get tired from using them."
"How long have I been out?" He questioned.
"No more than a few hours, but I have something to tell you."
"What is it?" Ethan asked with concern.
"While you were asleep," Crystal spoke, "There was another huge energy surge. It wasn't from the Nox Mansion this time."
"But it came from Locklear's sister, right?" Ethan remembered the way she looked the last time he saw her. She was demonic.
"The girl? We assume so. Terminus isn't happy about it. The energy surge was near town. He worried about the safety of the townspeople if any demons she called forth went on a rampage." Crystal said while looking directly into my eyes.
"I understand why he wanted her killed, he is worrying about everyone else's safety. But the girl never asked to be this way. None of us did." I stated.
Crystal replied, "And I agree with you. But Terminus understands her true ability. And he fears it."
Ethan thought for someone like to Terminus to fear something, it must really be threatening. He understands Terminus wanting her dead. But if it came down to killing Synthia, or letting her demons kill the innocent. He knew what would have to be done...
Gabriel left to go speak to Terminus. Crystal gestured for Ethan to follow her. They ran to the training facility. Crystal walked over to a panel on the wall. She pressed a button, and the panel began to slide open. On the other side, was every weapon you could imagine. From bows, to staffs, to swords, to knives.
"Choose one." Crystal said.
Ethan quickly scanned his selection. "I've never used any of these, before." But then something caught his eye; A staff. Grey, with a purple grip. The tip was golden, sharpened. This staff wasn't just for show, it was dangerous.
"Good choice, but that this as well as a back up. You never know when it might help." Crystal said as she threw a silver and black sheathed dagger towards Ethan. It was heavier than it looked.
"Ready to go?" She questioned. Ethan was nervous. He wasn't sure what to expect from Synthia.
"As I'll ever be." They both sprinted back to the main foyer to meet the others. Ethan with his new staff in hand, dagger attached to his ankle. Terminus was not please, a look of anger and concern on his face.
Terminus spoke, "Ethan, I'll take you to the park, Gabriel, take Crystal. Be ready, we don't know what to expect." He grabbed Ethan, the next thing he knew, he was in the park. Laying on the ground was Locklear, next to him stood Aroura and John. But standing behind them is what frightened Ethan the most. A monster, like he had never seen before. Next to the monster stood Synthia, almost unrecognisable.
"The Tall Man." Terminus said as Gabriel and Crystal landed down next to them.
