The Artifacts of Morrow (Semi-lit Kinda, Open and Accepting)
Forum-Index → Roleplay → The Artifacts of Morrow (Semi-lit Kinda, Open and Accepting)After crossing many exhausting kilometers of walking, he started hearing voices. A feminine voice seemed to be talking to Kichirou.
''Gh... I'm hallucinating. I'll better take a break.'' - he said to himself, when he reached a forest. A few moments later, he found a pouch of coins, just laying there in front of nowhere.
''Well, isn't that nice.'' - he happily spoke to himself, while picking up the item. A few steps later, a clay bottle. full of water was sitting near an oak tree. It confused Kichirou, as the forest seemed to be completely empty of people. His best guess was travelers dropping the items while on the way.
When Kichirou was drinking the water, his bracelet touched the bottle. The gem on the bracelet started emitting a strange energy. In a matter of second, the entire area was illuminated by a blue energy. ''What in the world is happening?''
The burst of light attracted a bear, probably living in the forest. It started chasing Kichirou, with a raging charge. Kichirou quickly reacted and ran away. However, the bear was very fast. It was slowly approaching him. Kichirou took out his bow he was keeping on his back, grabbed an arrow and shot in the direction of the bear. Unfortunately, it missed and hit a nearby tree instead.
Strangely enough, the tree suddenly fell down, right on the bear. The bracelet glowed with even brighter light. Kichirou used the chance to run away and got out of the forest.

Raeyn Wilmist had been and always would be the second Warden of Darkness. It had come so suddenly, shocking everyone back then. But all of them could agree that she carried a dark type of sadness since the moment she had slipped into the Ruins, completely undetected. The sixteen year old carried a blade forged from ice as dark as the evil of a heart, dressed in such strange clothes. Unlike the few others, she knew a lot more than she let on, clearly skilled in both terms of swordsmanship and magic. She understood loss, pain, and betrayal. Wise beyond her years, her peers regarded her with a wary kind of interest.
Raeyn understood that while the others trained together, she was left to her own devices. It didn't stop her from being one of the first to completely harness her powers, and undoubtedly become one of the most fearsome Wardens. Nobody ever truly trusted her...just one other Warden. And he had died. He was quickly avenged, however. Raeyn made sure of that.
The first Warden of Darkness had betrayed the others, leaving Raeyn without a trainer. Nevertheless, Raeyn persevered in her training, ignoring the whispers of her fellow Wardens. She forced herself to do such rigorous training, both of body and mind.
But what was more important about her training is that there was one other Warden who trained with her. Her first, and last true friend in the circle of Wardens. His name was something she desperately tried to forget, but sometimes...it really did just resurface from the few memories she had of him.
Terry Sagacious.
Raeyn felt her throat go dry. Terry had been the second Warden of Time. A mostly reclusive guy, he had been given control over time itself, stirring up some drama within the ranks. They were the two sort of outcasts among their fellow Wardens, both because of their powers. Time was dangerous, and so was the darkness. It was fine for Terry and Raeyn.
That is, until Terry died. More specifically, killed. Raeyn had watched the life trickle out of those hazel eyes. She'd watched the life leave many eyes. But none had affected her as much as Terry's death had. For one moment, there was nothing but shock, loss, and deep grief. They had been losing that battle. The 12 brand new Wardens had had very little training compared to their opponents.
Raeyn had forced the tables to turn with a scream of rage.
Her senses had gone numb, her only goal to slaughter every last enemy within range. Later on, she could never recall what she had done. Her allies did their best to stay away from her sudden rampage. They later recalled what they could: waves of darkness washing through the ranks of their enemies, the earth splitting open and swallowing them whole, and the shadows coming to life and joining in the massacre.
It was the darkness, fueled by Raeyn's thirst for revenge. The others never spoke of it again, but they kept their distance from the mourning girl, not wanting to be shish kebab-ed by a spear of darkness.
Terry hadn't died in vain, Raeyn had realized. He had taught her a lot of things that he had learned from his own trainer. The thing about time, it was more dependent on the mind than the body. Raeyn put those things to use throughout the years, unable to be fooled by illusions, seeing patterns in the most simple thing, and a lot more.
She saw a pattern when she blinked and saw Thiria's new clothes, immediately recovering the lost thoughts and sense the sand double back.
Her first thought was immediately how Thiria could have looked like Terry's younger sister, but she shoved back the thought into the deepest recesses of her mind. Her mouth momentarily twisted into a bitter smile before fading back to its usual impassive position.
Raeyn Wilmist sighed in a seemingly irritated manner before walking forwards, sidestepping Thiria. "Come with me. I'll have to introduce you to the others, I'm afraid. Nothing to worry, though. They're more friendly than me," She stated distinctly.

But no, even after she left that accursed place, Viper still had nightmares. She could alter other people's dreams and nightmares, but not her own. Viper was fairly certain she had visited every moment of her abused life at least once.
Unsurprisingly, after she went missing no notices, posters or anything of that sort were given out, and nobody came looking for her. The only problem for her was finding enough food to stay alive. So she foraged in the forests, sticking close to the shadows.
One day, she heard the calling. A voice in her head, telling her where to go. She had followed it into a forest, where the voice grew from just a want to an actual voice. There, Viper followed the voice.
Viper sighed again as she stopped the flow of memories. It was already twilight, and she was wide awake. Viper could already feel her power increasing. She quickly and quietly moved towards the other edge of the forest, occasionally climbing high tree to check her surroundings. She could see a distant ruin somewhere...
Viper looked at the sky as it darkened, and her normal clothes glowed white before being replaced by her night themed one, along with a stylish headband she could morph into a sword. It happened every night, when she became stronger. Then, at sunrise she gradually becomes weaker.
Viper climbed down the tree and walked in the semi-darkness, her eyes perfectly capable of penetrating the gloom. What originated from a walk soon became a run. She bust out of the forest as she also saw a figure far away, getting smaller. Well, I guess it's about time I met another chosen She thought, After all, why would anyone else go to this place?

He put his hand on the bump and pushed slightly. Suddenly, the chest opened. Then, opened again. How had he not noticed the trap door before? It mist have been magically shrouded, otherwise he would have sensed it.
He looked inside the chest, and pulled out a piece of paper. Was it the page? He held it up to the diary, and fit it in. The page glued itself to the paper, and the letters started to move around the page, before settling in a different order. Drake straightened up, excited. Maybe now, he could take another shot at deciphering it.
Still nothing. Why nothing? After another hour of searching, he only had one thing. A number. Was this number a date? That couldn't be a date. If that was a date, then his creator wasn't human. Not even close. Was he THAT old? This, this was even before the time of the Origional Twelve!

Letting her eyelids fall, she concentrated on Raeyn's past. She saw images flash by, before she stopped on one. A massacre. Glancing at the fighters, she noted one in similar clothing to hers, fighting alongside..Raeyn. The image flashed forward again, showing hazel eyes dim as the life drained out of the warden.
Her eyes widened as the massacre continued, only orchestrated by one person. Tendrils of darkness snaking throught the ground, enveloping the enemy. She contemplated it, concluding that the two wardens had been closer than most, which explained Raeyn's reaction to her.
With difficulty, she managed to pull herself out of the memories, exalting in the fact that her time and luck powers had worked in conjunction. Then, she halted, taking in the large table with different people wearing different outfits. She suddenly felt awkward and socially inept, a habit gained from many years of solitude.
I'm sure, that in your.... you've heard at least a few... multiple myths that revolve around human culture. Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Hindu, just to name a few.
But...as many wonder, could there... they were ever true?
I believe I may have the answer to that...
"Run!" The tall man yelled as...
His students couldn't pause... rn, for their attackers were already finishing off what used to be their teacher. They ran.
As time moved on, they ran. They ran and ran, only stopping when necessary. Their numbers dwin... Eventually, twelve were left of the former fifty.
The voice continued for some time, but Viper was not able to really know what it said, for it was missing in some places. Still, the final statement worried her.Could she be something else? Probably. It would be no use thinking about it. She was well out of the forest now, but Viper still had an unsettling feeling. She for some reason jumped, and a portal appeared, which she jumped into.
She landed in the middle of what she assumed was a ruins if sorts, filled with what happened to be random junk if her eyes were working correctly. Also, was it her or was it a different time frame here? Now what should she do? Should she just stand around and wait for someone to notice her?
(And this is what happens when I'm typing while trying to make a map for this)

It was a short song, sounding both melancholy and hopeful at the same time, but it had a nice tone which Amsel found to her liking. The verse had barely ended when she looked up and noticed Raeyn approaching the table that she, along with several of the other wardens, were gathered around. She immediately noticed the new face that accompanied her.
"Ah, Raeyn," she said, in a soothing, singsong voice, "I see that thou hast brought a guest." Her glossy, blue eyes shifted to the young girl at Raeyn's side. Her hands quickly brushed over the scales covering her chest and shoulders, making sure that there were no loose ones. To her kind, it was always important to look presentable, especially during introductions.
"I am known as Amsel Verhoef Engel Mur, Warden of Song. And by what name shall I call thee?"

Now that she was on the subject of Amsel though, her mouth couldn't resist a wry smile. Just as ancient as she was, maybe even more so, the Piscean was one of the first Chosen, along with her. Unlike most of the other Wardens, Amsel wasn't as terrified of Raeyn's abilities. Amsel had been no pushover, either. Her sweet, lulling voice was a deathtrap. Years of training honed her skills even more so, and Raeyn reckoned that they were roughly of the same level.
Amsel's sweet music simply disguised her terrifying power over sound. An ally Raeyn was grateful to have, and an adversary to be reckoned with.
As the crowd's eyes locked on the newcomer, Raeyn uneasily shifted on her feet. "Meet our new Warden of Time, Thiria Solita," Her voice cut through the air crisply.
"The South Border has been left unguarded, by the way," She added. "I'm sure that it's time to change shifts. Is it not?"
A few Wardens rose from their seats, hurrying past them without a sound, glancing nervously over their shoulder at Raeyn. As one of the eldest Wardens, she had definite authority over the majority of them, and very few dared to question her. Though, Raeyn mused to herself, it wasn't like she was going to strangle them with their own shadow. She wasn't that annoyed with any of them.
It wasn't going to change their opinion of her any time soon. She had, after all, killed a Warden in the midst of battle before. Then again, it hadn't been under normal circumstances...

He concentrated for a few seconds, then blinked over to the west gate, appearing behind one of the Chosen, who recoiled around before running away as fast as he could. Drake sighed. He needed to make sure not to surprise people anymore.
He threw up a spacial barrier around his sector, and, satisfied that he would sense an intruder, he crossed his legs, levitated off of the ground, and meditated.
After meditating for a bit, he decided he needed to make sure his conduit was still accurate. He pulled the two handguns out of their holsters, and once again admired the craftsmanship. It had to have been a special order. He aimed at a tree far away from the camp boundaries, aimed, and squeezed the trigger. The gun recoiled, but no visible bullet came out. Drake then fired with the other gun, before firing 2 more shots. A moment of silence, then the tree spontaneously exploded. Drake nodded, satisfied. Spacial bullets were probably the best thing he had invented. If needed, he could even change the path of the bullet. Although it was a drain to use them, they were his ultimate last resort. He holstered the guns and started meditating again, pretending to be aware of the dozen or so Chosen staring at him. Let them stare, he thought. Just be glad I'm on your side.

She was mildly surprised at her appearance, but judging from the others, all Wardens and Chosen came from all over the universe. She scolded herself mentally as she realized the others were still waiting expectantly for a reply, some starting to look a little irked.
"Thiria," she answered, as she felt throughout her domain absentmindedly in her anxiety.
Glancing at Raeyn, she knew she had gone into deep thought, her dark eyes distant and unfocused. She opened her mouth to say something, only to have a shout attract everyone's attention. "Help! Enemies are attacking the South Border!"
He wasn't feeling like going onward anymore. He just wanted to head back to the village. Unfortunately for him, it was too late. He was seeing the pathway and hearing the feminine voice to this day, but he was ignoring it. The farther he went, the worse he was feeling.
The voice seemingly was telling him to stop, but he didn't listen. After an another hour of walking aimlessly, he fell to the ground, just like his determination. The voice of a women completely surrounded him, as he was closing his eyes.
[Yup, sorry for not posting for so long >.>]

Raeyn let out a growl of frustration before turning on her heel. Really? She was gone for less than half an hour and they were already being ambushed? Sure, a majority of the Wardens were barely a century old, but really? They couldn't hold off a few scattered groups of enemies?
Raeyn put three fingers to her lips and blew. A piercing whistle carried through the entire base as the Beacon glowed even brighter, alerting everyone of the breached Border.
With a deft twist of her foot, the nearby shadows lurking around the pillars lurched towards their new master. The next second, she was speeding towards the breach, the shadows withstanding even the harsh sunlight beaming down on them.
Raeyn could see the border now. Fights were breaking out in small circles. Out of the corner of her eye, a Warden of Water blasted a humanoid rock creature with a high-powered burst of water. Nearby, a Warden of Nature played their flute, making plants emerge from the barren ground, growing vines as thick as a leviathan body in a matter of seconds.
It wasn't enough.
Raeyn joined in the fight, the shadows toppling enemies left and right. The sunlight seemed to dim as the Warden of Darkness mercilessly let loose once more, feeding the shadows with the energy of their enemies.
"Power is addictive," A voice whispered in Raeyn's ear.
The dark-haired Warden halted in her attacks, recalling the warning words of someone she had once known so well. She couldn't let her power overtake her, or else it would be her ultimate destruction. She'd known that even before she accepted her role as a Warden.
With evident restraint, Raeyn lashed out once more at the increasing number of enemies. A full-out attack in broad daylight...of course. Their generals knew Raeyn played quite a role. With her powers indefinitely weakened, the Wardens as a whole also were. Each Warden could turn the tides just by themselves. Each Warden weakened was an advantage.
"Damn it," Raeyn cursed as an arrow stung past, grazing the side of her face.
Almost immediately the cut healed from the arcane magic the Beacon emitted. Raeyn cut down a Medusa lion - a pond scum green lion with a Medusa head - with a whip of darkness. Making eye contact with the lion was fatal.
"Regroup!" She heard a nearby Warden call as their enemies' reinforcements arrived.

"I see thou art holding back quite well," Amsel said, throwing her voice near Raeyn's ear so it could be more easily heard. She had once been unfortunate enough to witness the dark Warden unleash her full power on everyone around her, and it had been terrifying.
Amsel's tail flashed as she "swam" to a somewhat isolated area compared to the rest of the battlefield. "Cover thine ears," she said to her fellow Wardens, before letting loose an ear-shattering scream. She threw the scream towards a group of lupine enemies, letting the sound reverberate inside them. Their eardrums burst before air embolism killed them from the inside. The musical Warden suppressed the sound as it reached her allies. Some of them would probably hear an extremely loud shriek, but it wouldn't be enough to destroy their eardrums. She briefly recalled her first attempts at using her voice as a weapon. Many of the nearby wardens had gotten extreme earaches and headaches that day, and she had almost deafened two of them.
She ducked as projectiles flew over her head, and shot into the air as a golem creature tried to grab her. With a twist in the air, she came down hard on the golem and smacked it with her tail, knocking off most of its limbs with the cost of hurting herself slightly. I dislike these inorganic creations...most of them are immune to my sound waves. It wasn't like she could simply float out of reach, either. In the air, she was more of a target to projectiles, especially ones that she couldn't shatter with her voice.
Luckily, there weren't many other inorganic enemies in her vicinity, so she screamed once more, defeating those enemies nearby before manipulating reverberations inside the more distant individual animal and humanoid enemies, effectively killing them via air embolism without needing to suppress the sound to protect her allies.

To Viper, it seemed that the mermaid-like creature, she decided it was a magical construct, had hurt itself destroying the golem. Another scream followed, Viper yelped as another scream followed that. I wonder how I'm not deaf right now... Viper thought as she watched the fight progress.
It seemed that the mermaid construct was an ally to some of the humans, since they were just fine even after it screamed. I wonder what kind of magic gave her that power... I've never seen anything like it, even in the Capitol. She thought.
But who is who here? Who had attacked, and why? Should I try to help, or should I hide? Why are they being attacked? Ahh.... so many questions, yet no answers. Viper growled as she thought, questions filling her mind. Deciding to just take her chances, she leaped, changing her headband into a gleaming sword, and sliced a golem's arm. In response, it tried to crush her, moving with incredible speeds.
When has golems ever been this fast!? Viper asked herself as she barely dodged the golem.

‘Hello again, my champion. I see you have gained control of your powers of luck. Now, I wish to give you training in another aspect. By the time you regain your bearings, a pendant will be on your neck. Squeeze it slightly, and use what it transforms into wisely.'
‘Wait! Can't you teach me how to control my powers over time?'
‘That is a mystery for yourself to solve, my champion. Persevere. You have already solved a part.‘
Blinking, Thiria glanced down at herself. Nestled against her collarbone was a golden clover. She felt confused, but she squeezed it anyway. A bow now lay gripped in her right hand, a quiver strapped to her back.
Frowning at the memory of her childhood, she drew an arrow, firing it at the remaining golems. It hit its mark, the golem obliterated. Spurred by the small victory, she drew arrow after arrow, releasing the bowstring and causing havoc among the enemies.
She frowned more deeply as she realized there were more coming. With Raeyn slowing down, and the other wardens starting to be overwhelmed, she decided to take matters into her own hands. This time focusing on her time powers, she attempted to slow time down for their enemies, only to find a small spark emit from her hands. Somehow, her instinct told her that she had only slowed time down by 30 seconds.
Gritting her teeth in frustration, she continued to fire arrows towards the enemy, her grip tightening on the bow as she did so.
That is going to be a bad move...Viper thought as she unleashed her magic on the golem. The effort left her exhausted, but three of the five pursuing her were now obliterated. She glanced at the sun. Of course it was the middle of the day, just her luck.
Viper panted as she dodged a golem's hand, before she stabbed her sword into it. Moving it at a particular angle, she cut off the hand. The golem seemed surprised, and then Viper slashed at it multiple times, cutting off multiple limbs, segments and body parts.
Suddenly, a lupine crashed into her, knocking her to the ground. The creature stood over her, preventing her from moving very much. Her sword was somewhere on the ground. Viper was defenseless. Right now the only way to survive, for her at least, was to be helped.

Raeyn felt the sun's fierce glare start to wear down her little shadow minions, reducing her power as time went on. She vaguely heard Amsel's deadly screams, noting with satisfaction as many foes fell. The new girl, Thiria, had joined in the fight, now wielding a bow. Firing arrows accurately in the midst of the chaos, Raeyn found her respect growing for the new Warden.
Their forces, however, were faltering. Raeyn barely kept up with the speedy blows of one persistent golem. To her horror, she saw a nearby Warden fall. The Warden clutched desperately at what looked like a lantern - their conduit of power. She caught Raeyn's eye as a massive dragon-headed boar loomed over her.
With a sudden jolt, Raeyn realized the Warden had been one of those she had found and brought in, a few years back. Raeyn couldn't recall her name...but the girl was a Warden of Electricity.
She seemed to say something as time slowed, though Raeyn had to struggle to read her lips. The work of Thiria, most likely.
"Save them, please."
Dark eyes widening as realization dawned upon her, Raeyn blasted her opponent with a slice of a hundred shadow knives, whipping around to save the other girl. As she dreaded, she was too late. As the boar lunged, the lantern and its owner glowed, signifying the release of arcane magic.
Raeyn barely had time to yell, "DROP TO THE GROUND!" when a burst of tremendous light incinerated every monster around them.
The blast momentarily blinded those nearby, including Raeyn. Heart hammering against her chest, she saw the lantern glowing dimly in the middle of the crater, slowly crumbling to ash.
Whenever a Warden dies, their conduit of power dies with them, unless it's one of the original twelve artifacts.
The first thing Raeyn had been told when she became a Warden. She felt the darkness left by the Electric Warden's death, her anger slowly boiling to the maximum degree. Her senses sharpened, and the sunlight seemed to dim considerably as the shadows churned even more violently in Raeyn's presence.
Nearby Wardens flinched as well as the monsters, already sensing the magnitude of Raeyn's anger. Every time a Border was breached, there were always a few casualties on the Wardens' side. The memory of those gave Raeyn the motivation to do what she needed to do, and basically just fired up her already very short fuse.
"If you've got abilities relating to light," Raeyn softly murmured, "get back."
The message was quickly passed on to the others, and several Wardens were already moving to the back of the throng. The enemies, sensing a disturbance in the air, attempted to strike as fast as they could.
Too late.
Raeyn let loose a guttural cry as every shadow in the Ruins came forth to her aid. The sky darkened to a pitch black, the shadows swooping upwards, blocking the sunlight, immersing them all in total darkness. Raeyn was completely vulnerable at this point, but it didn't matter.
Her allies would be able to see clearly through the darkness, while their enemies could not. It cost Raeyn all types of movement, freezing her in place. The frost was spreading across the ground, the air getting more frigid as the seconds passed.
Silence for one brief moment, both sides trying to process what had just happened. Then the sounds of battle returned more forcefully.
"I can only buy you time," The shadows seemed to echo.

Kichirou found himself in a dark empty void of nothingness. The floor was non-existent, but he could somehow stand. The void did not have any walls either. Just an infinite empty space.
However, he was feeling something. A feeling of falling, even when he was on his feet. Walking on the void felt... weird. It was a feeling no human would possibly be able to describe. There were no sounds coming from anywhere, even from the footsteps.
He also was feeling like something was watching him, hiding in the darkness. He desperately started running as fast as he could into nothingness. Nothing. Not even a single object. A black void.
Out of a sudden, Kichirou's eyes finally spotted something. A glimmer of light started shining behind him. Having nothing else to do, or nowhere else to go, he chased the light. The feminine voice spoke again from the light:
I'm sure, that in your short life, you've heard at least a few stories regarding the multiple myths that revolve around human culture.
Kichirou finally grabbed the light, but it simply disappeared and reappeared behind him.
Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Hindu, just to name a few.
But...as many wonder, could there be the slightest chance they were ever true?
''Gh... Shut your mouth already!'' - he shouted at the voice, still reaching out for it. It appeared behind him again.
I believe I may have the answer to that...
Kichirou stopped feeling the sensation of standing on the dark floor, but the sensation of falling got even stronger.
He fell down, into the endless pit of nothing.
...Or so he thought.
