i've seen this option in other forums, but i think it's easier to show it than to try to explain it:

likewise, it could be displayed on a user's profile, maybe around or between the username and trainerlevel, and it could be changed by an option in a user's settings

This signature is under construction, kiddos!

I can understand wanting to hide gender. For a long time when playing online, I tried to remain as neutral with my gender as possible. I've been a female gamer for quite a long time now and I get harassed surprisingly often about it, not so much as for being a girl player, but for being a girl in general. I've had a few members of another site blocked from speaking to me/seeing their posts because they would be total pigs about things, such as asking for virtual hugs nonstop, constant flirting, and even a few cases of forced virtual kisses. Um, no thanks. Pardon me while I go gag.

I am also extremely shy, and it wasn't until fairly recently that I've been more open about who I am outside of my non-physical existence. I can completely understand wanting a gender-neutral setting.

I also understand those people who do not fit into one sexual category and feel discriminated for being forced to put themselves into one. I don't see the need for a preference option though. This seems totally irrelevant because this site has nothing to do with dating. (Ie, Prefers: men, prefers: women. This was suggested somewhere on this post or Nessy's; I forget which and where.) It would make people like me uncomfortable- I don't date and have zero intention to and would really rather be left alone about that. It also seems like just extra coding that could easily be put in an About Me anyways, and usually is.

(Don't worry, Nessy dear, Cake is most certainly not a lie. :))

Support!

Sometimes I feel a bit uncomfortable when showing my gender or call me She/her pronouns. And I couldn't get annoyed if somebody called by the wrong pronoun.

I also don't support the ? symbol in Users who Hide their gender, It just sounds offensive

(Well, I tried To express myself, sorry if this is confusing)

Support.

I've recently come to terms with the fact that I'm gender-neutral/agender, and although I don't really mind what pronouns people use for me, it would be nice to be able to choose a genderless option instead of simply male or female. Many other sites either have an option like this or don't require you to select a gender at all - it would add to the friendly and accepting atmosphere of PH to allow people the freedom of complete gender-nonconformity if they so wish.

This thread about genders has been implemented, however the only thing that was implemented was the ability to change gender. He did suggest to add another option called "Gender-less" or "Other", however Riako did not implement that.

So basically this thread might as well fall down. (I also described in that thread why being gender-less is unneeded.)

Book -

I do believe you are ignoring that there are people, including myself, that don't identify with either gender.
For me a genderless or "hidden" option might make people ask me my preferred pronouns, sure, but I'm much more comfortable being asked then having someone assume one way or the other.

Quote from BookHonestly speaking, becoming gender-less will be useless. Some people can mistake you for a boy than a girl, and the opposite as well. Then you'll have to waste time saying: "Ahem, I'm a *insert gender here*

It isn't useless to ME. And not to anyone else who identifies differently either.

And funny thing I've noticed on every site I've been on with a genderless option - everyone calls me by my preferred they/them pronouns.

Because if you don't know, that's the polite thing to do, not only online but in real life - if you don't know how someone identifies, you use they/them pronouns. Easy as that.

Most other sites that don't have genderless options have been working on adding them in. Facebook has it, Flight Rising, and several other sites I can't think of.
Heck, even the forms at my doctor's office have non-binary gender options so the doctor doesn't use the wrong pronouns.

---

Riako did implement the chainging thing, but as far as hiding your gender, I don't see the bad part of it.

Sure, there will be people who spend the first few days being jerks with it, but in the long run, you are just allowing non-conforming individuals to hide the little bubble so that if they don't fit into the "male or female" demographic, they don't feel labeled.

---

And if it's such a big deal to you that someone might ask your pronouns if your bubble was hidden, just don't hide your own bubble???

If you can read this, you know how to read.

Full Support on this! I truly believe that this should be implemented. For this, maybe next to their name should be a sign like this? And it would be purple because that's a mix of red and blue? Even if not, I fully support this!

Going off of what monochrome said with a third symbol, maybe just a grey or purple circle, because agender isnt a mix, its neither?

I would just like the option of the genderless icon. Because i am genderless and its kinda unsettling to see the female symbol under my name.

The ideal would be to just hide it no need of a 3rd symbol, just the choice to hide it.

It would be perfect for agender / Gender fluid (hi) / anyone who isn't feeling good by selecting boy or girl.

full suport.

If this became a thing it would effect the profile picture too (when there is no picture uploaded) because if you are set as male it has a male trainer silhouette, and if you set it as female there is a female trainer silhouette. So if it isn't male or female what would be put there if you have nothing uploaded? (just wondering)

I support as I have somewhat felt like a person has tried "hitting" on me, though couldn't really tell. If someone doesn't know what gender, it easier for them to not bother you or another in such a way.

Also bumping this. I would still love to hide my gender as I don't like being called a he or she too much and in all honesty...whenever I set my gender as a female some users came to me and flirted and I've seen this happening to other girls or boys and I know many people do not feel okay with being I don't know...flirted with....

Either hiding or a ''genderless'' icon like the legendary pokemon or other genderless pokemon have would be nice.
