Support for the possibilty to hide gender if you wish to for whatever reason.

Btw the whole discussion about why people want and some reactions to that shows how little the most understand about transgenders/people who doubt about their true gender/like crossdressing.

Well the beast people will always have an opinion about what gender someone should date or marry, i actualy can laugh about it myself because they themselfs for whatever reason closeminded ;)

Bumping for the same reason as before ^.^

Also because with the update, this would be more supported and noticed by riako-senpai maybe?

Oh man how did I not notice this before? I've been wondering about this for a while and why it wasn't already implemented. Full support!

I was one of those people that resented having to choose a gender upon joining. I identify as genderfluid (though I don't mind female pronouns as much as I used to since I've mellowed a lot since high school and I'm forced to be in the closet offline) I'm used to it being a common implemented feature on most of the other sites I'm on, and I wonder why it's not implemented here.
I definitely support this

Alright, so I'm seeing a lot of posting in this suggestion, so I thought I'd say my opinion on it now. I'm going to stay neutral on this for a few different reasons. First off, whether people see your gender or not should not matter. I'm sure there are those of you on here that would get extremely annoyed and angered if someone else messaged you in the wrong gender term. And I know there are those of you on here who are gender fluid, pansexual, asexual, and so on, and really, that should not have any special features for websites. If you see yourself as a girl, then you can easily put your gender as a girl, vise versa with boys. If you see yourself as neither or as both, I'm sure you can just state that somewhere and I'm sure you'd accept both terms (he, she, him, her, etc.)

Alright, to continue with my reasoning, like I mentioned above, how you see yourself should not have any special benefits for websites, unless it's based upon how you see yourself. There's no need to have a special tag or hide a gender or anything like that really, since what is it going to affect? If you hide it, you'll get both terms, if you show one or the other, you'll get each of those terms. It's all on how you see yourself, not how others should see you.

My second thing is, out of the 23,866 registered users we have here on Pokeheroes, how many of them would you think would be trying to hide their gender? Or what reasoning behind it other than how they see themselves? It would be a waste of time and coding, in my opinion, to implement a whole new gender thing just to hide it.

Lastly, or at least I believe this is my last reasoning, is that the ability to change or hide your gender would cause a lot of attention seeking and annoyance. I can understand if you are changing your body and gender to the opposite, but you should ALL know how many people would use that as a way of seeking attention. And I know for a fact that it would annoy and royally piss off those who are actually the opposite gender of what they were born. I have one friend in school, who she was born in the wrong body, and is undergoing the whole thing, and there are people in my school who are playing games with "changing genders" and being not one gender or both genders. It's like a mockery. It's not cool at all to watch those who actually believe what they are and go through with how they see themselves be mocked by those you want attention.

Alright, so this is all I have to say about the Displaying Your Gender suggestion. It could be seen as a way to get attention, as mockery, and plain out, it could be seen as a judgmental way of being ignorant. If you see yourself as one way and have your gender on here as that, then you shouldn't get offended by it. And yes, I know I'm going to get a lot of butthurt people getting mad at me for this, but that just sucks for you now doesn't it. Because I can have opinions and words of my own too.

So I'll go as far to say even no support.

This is a really good idea!! They don't even have to get specific with it, even just a "gender neutral" or "other" option beside m/f would be soooo good. Yes, people could put their preferred pronouns/ gender in their about but it still is super harmful and kind of rude to not include them?? I don't think people realize how uncomfortable it can be for someone who is genderfluid, agender, etc. to have to be displayed as strictly male / female because its very uncomfortable for me. I fully support where this suggestion is headed.

Since I have supported this since the beginning, I will take a LONG moment to answer all the concerns brought up.

If you see yourself as neither - or if you are genderfluid - sometimes being called by he/she actually hurts. And whereas we already have the genderless icon built into the site - and the coding would be fairly simple - why should someone have to change their signature daily so that they aren't triggered or offended?

The purpose of this is to make everyone equal. "How you see yourself should not have any special benefits for websites, unless it's based upon how you see yourself." Here is a misconception a lot of people have. It is saying that because the people who are actually genderfluid are a minority, they shouldn't get a "special" I.E. genderless symbol. Yet every other social website has this option. And in public - if you see yourself as gay, should you go to prom straight so other people are comfortable, because you get "no special concessions"? NO!
This isn't a special concession, it is an option to be who you are.

As I stated before, the img code is already there, so....it is very easy to manipulate.

And to Nova's last point....

For years, I struggled with my identity. Then, I went to a place where I could be genderfree, not referred to as she or her. Reffered to as them. And it was great. I came out as genderfluid only recently to my family, my mom is really good at making me feel okay with it. Sometimes it REALLY hurts when people act like I am a girl, or expect things from you.

And yes, it is a kids site, but that doesn't mean that people won't be condescending based on gender.

And to keep people from "abusing" it or playing games - what if you were only allowed to change once? To male, female, or genderless? No exceptions?

Those who think it would be "fun" to mess with it and get offended would get warnings/short bans. But those who want it because it is who they are can change there gender to match who they are.

If you have any questions/comments on this - or if I missed a point because I am tired - feel free to PM me or comment here.

And point in case - just because you aren't agender, genderfluid, or genderless doesn't mean that I'm not.

If you can read this, you know how to read.

Thank you everyone for keeping this alive and expressing your opinions, be it for or against, I really appreciate you guys take your time to think about this issue.

@novasplitz: I appreciate and respect your opinion as such and I grateful you took your time to write all that. I never realized people could use this as a way to get attention, play around or downright mock others who are serious about being genderfluid and I see your concern. Though I still think that is no reason to deny genderfluid users not being able to choose a genderless icon for themselves.

And a special thank for my dearie Harkness for the continuous support, it's great to see you're not giving up on this even though Boss is being stubborn. :p

Nessy has the fairest point here. Plus, this suggestion has been whether to allow a user to hide their gender or not, not to change it.

Meaning that if you joined up as a female, but are something else, you can hide that gender and have it replaced with the genderless symbol.
Not that you can change your gender between male/female whenever you like.

Hiding the gender, in itself, is not an attention seeking behavior. Changing the gender between male/female/etc whenever they like is attention seeking behavior. But this suggestion wasn't for that. And what if there was a cool off time before you could toggle the hide gender on and off?

I still support this fully, even though I'm not sure if I'd use it after I got my gender changed by Riako. Most other options let you hide your gender, so why should this site be any different? The games don't let you pick a genderless option, but do you know what I do? I buy both games, and play one as a female and one as a male, picking the game I play based on the gender I want to relate more with that day.
Animal crossing doesn't allow a genderless option, but I've always played with both genders in those games as well.
Websites don't have that option, which is why it'd be more enjoyable to be able to hide the gender and go by whatever gender you prefer.

And the only thing I can think of is if the site wouldn't know what to use on the gender influenced pages.
Welcome, Sir!
Welcome to our fancy salon, Mister!
¡Bienvenido al GTS, señor!
and any other pages I might have missed.

Simple, replace the gender specific parts with the username.

Senpai, there aren't any "no support" or "support" comments. It's stating why we support or don't support, or stating that they thought this should have been added already. So while people are voting, we are allowed to state these reasons in our posts as well.

Yeah, what Navuso said. There's no harm in some healthy discussion even with the new voting thingie. I think it's quite polite to state your opinion here instead of just voting in case you have anything else than "support" or "no support" to say. It shows people actually care enough to take their time to write a comment. :d

Would this suggestion only affect the social network part of this page (userpage, forum etc) or also the gameplay (mentioned by Navuso)?
Are you okay with keeping things like "Welcome, Sir!" on certain pages? Because there are a bunch of such quotes on the whole page already - including pronouns (he/she).

As far as I'm concerned, it's good as long as nobody other than myself can see my gender. I don't care whether others (the game included) refer to me as "he", "she" or "they". Gender should be irrelevant here - it's simply a matter of privacy imho.

I can see how some players might be uncomfortable being called "Sir" or whatever by the game, but what I'm saying is that there are also people who would be happy with only an "undisclosed" option for the social part.

I support this because people do identify themselves as gender neutral, or don't like people knowing their genders.
