"Echoshine is the new deputy? Well that's unexpected." Acornfur
replied. He leaned in a bit closer to Fernshade. "I think she might
die of seeing too many bugs," He whispered to her. Fernshade
giggled, and burst into a laugh. Acornfur was the only cat who
could make her laugh like that. "Maybe." She replied, her nose
still giving breaths of laughter. "Besides--It's getting late...
I'm off to the Warriors' Den for some rest." Fernshade meowed and
nuzzled Acornfur's shoulder, and rose to her paws. She turned out
of the Medicine Den and stumbled into the Warriors' Den quickly,
keeping a clear path of that annoying new deputy.
"Yes, very well." Brindlestar answered, her tail flicking for a
sign to come along. She padded into the leaders' den, and sat down.
"You needed to talk to me?"
Brindlestar's amber eyes flitted towards the majestic Silverpelt in
suspicion. Where could Nightshade be going with the legendary
brute, Tigerstar? Could that possibly mean... No, no, she couldn't
suspect that. Could she?
"Tigerstar... Yes, I remember him from the elders' tales when I was
still a kit. He was ambitious to become a leader, and I bet he
would've made a good one if he hadn't of tried to stretch his
limits so far." Brindlestar meowed. Her mind was twisting more than
the Spinning Tree.
Nightshade was a loyal warrior, though. Whatever could of happened
in the past will not affect the future, if Brindlestar was still
leader.
Nightshade looked at her, astonished. "He's not a tale he was real.
He's my grandfather, I just needed to tell someone, because your
sister has been getting suspicious, I say some things that me might
of said when he was not a killer."
Brindlestar let out a sigh. She was pretty much expecting this, but
yet she wasn't embraced enough for it. "I see. I'll tell you
something in exchange, Nightshade..." Brindlestar meowed and leaned
in, her voice dropped into a whisper. "I only have five lives
left."
Brindlestar's lithe, creamy light-brown striped tail uncoiled from
her paws and lashed slackly. The energy in her wild amber-brown
eyes seemed to rise, as she stared on blankly at nothing. "StarClan
asked me to choose Echoshine. If you want her to be a leader or not
doesn't really depend on me... There's a prophecy on her,
Nightshade." The leader meowed hollowly.
To admit, she hadn't liked her choice either.
But she didn't really have a choice, anyways. She inhaled a deep
breath and her mind swirled as she recited the prophecy as she
remembered.
"I don't remember enough of the words, but it described a brown
she-cat that will make a legend in the Clans. Something about pain
torturing through her path as she moved on, and her living in the
depths of heartbreak? It's rather sad to me... Besides, the only
other brown she-cats are Fernshade and Fallingwing." She mewed.
Nightshade looked at her grey-black pelt. "She's hardly in camp.
She goes out into different place all the time. She was a bully to
fernshade too. Why didn't you make fernshade deputy?"
"Because Fernshade is my last resort. I've talked to her about it.
Besides, if I make a mistake then StarClan will... Urm... Fix it."
Brindlestar meowed.
Nightshade stood up. "Thanks BrindleStar." She nodded and padded
away, she entered the Warriors den and padded over to Treepelt,
EchoShine was talking with him. "Uh, what a suprise, hello
EchoShine!"
