Nightshade was lying on the floor in the medi cats den, hoping there was something left to cure her wounds, her own friend had turned on her and it wasn't a very good feeling, especially on top of the pain.
Most of the rest she'd discovered were in edible condition. She carried some of the perfect squirrels into the Apprentices' Den, and sat next to Honeypaw, putting the prey at the young apprentice's paws. Dappleleaf felt sad for the young she-cat, after all, she'd just lost both her sister and her mother.
"Honeypaw, look. I found some prey that had been in perfect condition. This isn't all of it. You did very well, young one. The ones at the bottom may have been dirtied, but the ones in the center--the ones in the heart, they were the ones that survived. Do you understand that? It's like the same thing as your own pure heart." Dappleleaf meowed, resting the tip of her tail promisingly onto Honeypaw's shoulder.
~~~~~~~~
Fernshade carried a bundle of goldenrod into the Medicine Den. "Herbs for Nightshade," she meowed to the Medicine Cat and set the medicine at the old she-cat's paws. "It's not enough for two cats..." The Medicine Cat grumbled. Fernshade's tail flicked, her eyes staying on the Medic Cat. "I told you it was for Nightshade. Just Nightshade." She meowed. "Why just her?" The she-cat asked. "Because she's my friend." The former deputy mewed simply, and padded out of the Medicine Cave.
Nightshade heard her say that she was her friend and squealed with joy, she still was friends with her!
Dappleleaf was in so much of a surprise that her left ear perked up straight but the other one tilted to the side, making her look unofficial to the face of Brindlestar. Immediately Dappleleaf's posture positioned themselves, and her ears went normally calm.
Despite her proud and accountable posture and position, Dappleleaf pleaded to her leader like a kit begging for their lives in front of a ruthless fox. "Please, Brindlestar, Honeypaw did nothing wrong! Don't exile her, I beg you!" Dappleleaf whimpered. Brindlestar's golden, luminous gaze was stern, and the tortoiseshell didn't see any forgiveness in it.
Brindlestar interrupted Dappleleaf's despairing pleads, her tail raising to order silence. "Dappleleaf, calm yourself." Brindlestar meowed hollowly. "Honeypaw, I'd like to speak to you alone." The leader meowed expressionlessly, her tail still. Dappleleaf sent a sad look at Honeypaw. Good luck, young apprentice. May StarClan give you good luck for your future. I hope you don't end up like Feralclaw.
"Honeypaw. Your father's Clan broke the rules of the Warrior code, and endangered our whole Clan, and we lost so many unfortunate in it. I don't want you to ever think you should be blamed for your father's actions, because your right, you are a DawnClan member inside and out, whatever your heritage is. No cat of this Clan should have anything against this. But I don't want you to go spreading the word, alright? It's not the smartest thing to do." Brindlestar meowed to the apprentice.
"Oh, and one more thing. What do you really want for your future warrior name?" The leader asked, a kink of warmness surrounding the edges of her voice.
Fernshade, curled up in a fluffy warm nest of moss bedding and feathers, looked glanced around the DawnClan camp and thought about how unreal it was. How new it was. Six moons ago, it was in complete shattered ruins. Four moons ago they had completely remodeled their camp into something livable. Something new.
And the honey-splotched Fernshade had to admit that their new camp was utterly gorgeous. Fernshade looked up at the roof of the den, which was covered in a sheet of broke up branches. It let the sunlit in just perfectly. The roof sat on the taller bushes, and the clearing let a cat keep an eye on everything.
Acornfur and his border patrol arrived through the thorn-protected entrance, and immediately the brown-furred tom broke away from the group and rushed towards Fernshade. "Are they okay? How are they doing? How are you doing?" He mewed quickly and urgently. Fernshade's whiskers twitched in amusement at her mate's unnecessary protectiveness. "Stormkit won't shut up, Thornkit is being playful and Echokit is doing fine." Fernshade purred.
Acornfur sighed in relief, and pressed noses with Fernshade. From her tail, three healthy kits scrambled to cascade their father. Echokit was a dark-brown she-kit with creamy-white-brown stripes, Stormkit was a soft light grey tom-kit and Thornkit was honey-blonde with specks of dark brown.
NightShade was flung against a tree, she growled and flung herself at the other cat, pinning him down. "That all you got?" She meowed, like a teasing kit. "I'm just warming up!" The cat replied, and threw her off him. "See?"
"Now you did it TreePelt!" NightShade said, scrambling onto her feet.
