This might seem irrelevant and a waste of Riako's time but I'm going to suggest this anyway.

So the idea is that in the settings there could be a a link to 'gender display' and you could choose whether your gender would be shown on your userpage and when you post in the forums or not. The female or male symbol could be replaced with a grey circle if they wish not to show their gender.

Maybe you can show your gender only to your friends or not at all.

I do not support this, as some people get mad if you get their gender wrong, and it really doesn't help if you can't see what their gender is

That may be true but I don't see why users who get mad at people who get their gender wrong would choose to hide their gender in the first Place.

No support... I dont see the point in hiding your gender. And people may use that as an advantage to fake their gender.

Note that you're not the only one playing this game. Some users might not want others to know their gender and would feel more comforable with hiding it. Everyone should be able to choose whether they want to display Private information such as their gender or not.

And I don't understand what harm could faking your gender cause.

I support. I was a little mad when joining that the site forced me to pick a gender.

I support it. Although I don't mind the gender showing, I know other people from other sites that were mad at the whole gender-showing thing. They wanted privacy and I'm pretty sure some people here would like that.

Support. There's really no harm in allowing people to keep their personal information, even something as general as gender, private. I'm one of those users who wasn't happy about having to enter this bit of information myself.

If someone doesn't mind or even wants their gender shown (because they hate to be addressed wrongly or for other reasons), they'd still be able to do so.

I also support this ^-^ And like moonrise said, it would be optional so you don't have to use it if you don't want to :p

Thanks for the support, it's nice to know I wasn't wasting my breath. .w.

And like said, the gender would obviously still show unless selected otherwise from the settings.

I support as well, and I can say the following:

To those of you worried about people "lying" about their gender, I'd like to ask you: what about people who identify as tras* or gender-questioning? I know several people who don't like genders at all, and their pronouns (forgive them English majors) are they/them. Not that difficult.

If you are worried about using someone's pronouns, and they hide their gender, then I think that you should either just use their name, or use they/their pronouns.

If you can read this, you know how to read.

i support!

as for people 'lying' about their gender - if someone wants to play favoritism with one gender over another, the fault is with them because everyone on the site should be treated equally, regardless of gender

and for using wrong pronouns, if someone wants certain pronouns to be used, it's their job to let people know which pronouns they wish to be addressed as, or to very politely correct someone if they're sddressed wrong

Full support from me!

Honestly, I really don't see why people get mad when others confuse their gender. I'm often miskaken for a male when there is no obvious identification, and I don't mind it at all

I guess people are a little more defensive of their gender, but we're all humans, right? And this is an online website, where near to no one knows who you really are. Of course, we shouldn't be treated differently if we are male or female, but still others ignore this simple sign of humanity, so why should it be compulsory that we reveal this information?

I fully support this~ I don't mind as all what people call me. I acctually prefer "xe, zi, or zhe", gender neutral pronouns like that. For all I care, I could be an "it" xD but otherwise? I don't mind if I'm called he, she, they. If I gotta choose between he or she? I do prefer she. But idealy? Nothing at all/neutral. Annnnd exactly, Swanfirefly. It's the reason I prefer gender neutral pronouns, thanks for bringing that up~ but some are even more specific and like the aforementioned "xe," "zi," or "zhe" better xP *cough*

I also don't feel it matters, because this would be an option~

Gosh yes I had no idea what to pick when joining the site, being genderqueer, so I eventually decided on Male since I prefer those pronouns most of the time by non-close friends U___U;

I would've loved a choice for neutrality/ability to change/to not show it at all though.

I'm so glad someone mentioned it. I was too nervous to, myself.

I support this completely!
I know of quite a few people who'd prefer to keep that information to themselves.
Especially since a few of them are just generally suspicious of the internet in general, and just want to avoid any sort of abuse/confrontation.

no one should be made to feel nervous or afraid because of their gender, and anyone engaging in harassment or abuse of someone else because of their gender is breaking the rules (we're supposed to keep this place friendly!) and any action or encouragement of this behavior will not be tolerated

(just puttin that out there)

Yes! Please! Full support. I'm gender-fluid and it's really inconvenient to have to stick with the same gender. I've wanted to post this before too, actually haha. (Would it also...maybe be a stretch to have a transgender icon? I dunno. I'd be fine with a grey circle/ability to change it, but I'm just throwing that out there. :) )

I support this, but I don't support the idea of having a transgender icon. I think that could potentially be abused.
