He grimaced. "W-Whatever, yeah? It's not like they'll ever come in here. We're not anywhere close to any of the main routes, so we're safe from their tampering." Probably. Better knock on wood to be safe, knowing his luck. [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiHe's... faked his own death before? Kubo blinked, but reminded himself that he was hardly interested in Idris' life before this killing game. They were allies. That was it. Any potential near-death experiences on Idris' part were not relevant to him. "Alright," Kubo put his hands on his hips. "The plan is to fake Lucian's death, and while we're in the trial room, Lucian can sneak around and search the hidden tunnels." He smiled at the three of them. "You may have noticed I was... away for a bit. I was searching for Darcy, who fell through a hole in the floorboards. There's a suspicious set of tunnels underneath the school. There's a door at the end of all it, which Monokuma seemed oddly concerned about us finding." Inhaling sharply, Kubo turned to Idris, meeting his eyes. "I think there's a hidden base where the mastermind monitors the school, because otherwise, how would they know who the killers are? There has to be a place where the recordings are sent, because otherwise, how would they get the chance to review the murder, know who the killer is in time for the trial? That, is what I suspect lies at the end of the tunnel, if not an exit. But we can't check, since Monokuma will stop us if we head down there. No doubt, the only reason we found it to begin with is because we didn't know of its existence. But now that we've seen it, there's no chance to get down there without him standing guard." That was a mouthful. But on went the monologue. "There's one person in particular who disappears following the murders, and that's the one I suspect as being the mastermind. But we're going to confirm that theory. We'll lay out an apparent suicide, and lay the body in an inaccessible spot in here, where there are no cameras... but, in another room on camera prior to the murder, have Lucian hide an apparent note before he goes off to our decided room. The note will implicate someone, someone suspicious enough, say... Miko." Nobody in this room seemed particularly close to him, and Shi, the wild card most likely hated him at this point, so it was a safe name to throw out. "Meanwhile, during the class trial, we can observe and see who targets Miko with no precedence. Perhaps they'll try and guide us in the 'right direction'... perhaps not. But if they have this note to keep them calm, then Lucian'll get an opportunity to check out the tunnels during the class trial, when no one is monitoring the cameras inside them, and Monokuma is successfully distracted with all the fun in his murder game. And no doubt, there'll be something to implicate the mastermind. And if all else fails, Lucian can review the security footage and see who collects his apparent last note." Kubo took in a shaky breath and continued before anyone could interrupt him. "Of course this all hinges on the fact that they don't regularly check the cameras and realise that this one is only playing a loop. And they don't have a security system besides Monokuma monitoring the tunnels. But if we play our cards right, then there should be little suspicion of anything, and the class trial room will probably be the target of all of their security measures. What do you think?" Fuming, Pollux crossed his little arms, turning and strolling across the clearing, only pausing to pick up an oran berry. He flipped it over- and it becane obvious someone else had made it to it first. It was completely covered in bug bites, probably some nasty little Caterpie made its way through half of it before cocooning up into a Metapod. Pollux sighed. "My life sucks." [Read more] |

27 Journalist --- Just a little girl, lost here all alone... for as scary as this had to be to the adults, she must be terrified. All this talk of kidnapping probably wasn't helping. "Whether or not some inept criminal is involved is still up to debate." Kelsey waved a hand dismissively, then turned to the new girl, someone who looked to be about her age, if not a little younger. "In any case, introductions can't hurt. We'll need to work together and pool our information if we're to figure out what's going on." She took a step forward. "Let's form a circle. We can introduce ourselves... and say the last thing we remember. A fun fact too, if you feel in the mood for a throwback to grade school." Clapping her hands together, she said. "I'll go first. My name is Kelsey Remington. I'm twenty seven years old, and work as a freelance journalist in New York City. You won't have heard of me, because I'm broke, so you can rest assured that I couldn't have afforded this tropical getaway. I appear to be wearing a Slipknot tee, but if you look closer, you'll see that this was once a Costco men's shirt with a neon blue wolf on it, and the patch is doing a poor job of hiding it. The last thing I remember is sorting through a case I was working on. I don't believe it is connected to what's happening now, but I was investigating a person named Evelien Roger, if the name's familiar." With a satisfied nod, she stepped back, and gestured for the person to her right to speak. [Read more] |

He strode towards the stone in the centre of the clearing, eyeing it with disdain- and finally kicking it over. Stunfisk free. No doubt there'd have been twenty fully-charged babies under it, if Lance hadn't decided to be his bad luck for the day. That was one perk of having an annoying jerk for a best friend, he supposed. "Sometimes I just want to burn this whole place down," he sighed, then turned back to face Lance. "How's the berry hunting going? You got enough for the winter season?" [Read more] |

It's a Darkrai. It's a Reshiram. It's every legendary Pokemon at once come to kill me. He threw himself to the ground, slamming himself facefirst into the forest floor, where he lay there, trembling, waiting for the end. What had he done to deserve this? Why had he been born into a world determined to torture him? Why oh why did he- Then he blinked. He stared at the two green feet by his face. Tyranitar? No, no, those feet were too familiar- "Lance?" He blinked in confusion. No, it couldn't be, Lance would never attack him, never sneak up on him from behind, this kind of mean-spirited prank was- Entirely in character. Lance would totally do that, who was he kidding. [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiOkay, that came close to disastrousness... but thankfully, he had Lucian on his side. What would I do without you? he thought wryly. Die, probably. Kubo breathed in sharply, then fixed his eyes on Shi and Idris. "I know who the mastermind is. They've made it so obvious, time and time again. The timing, the manipulation, the connection to every killer... it's there. They know too much about too many things." But... "But we can't be wrong. We can't kill them with no proof, and have it come back to bite us in the arse. Forgive my Bri*ish," he said wryly. "We need to be careful, meticulous about this. Lay down a trap with two angles to catch them... just on the slightest chance we're wrong." He closed his eyes, preparing himself... then blinked, turning to the third person in the room. He fixed his eyes on him, and for a second his heart skipped a beat, and something in him screamed, NO NO NO- "Lucian, we're going to have to fake your death." [Read more] |

It was a peaceful morning in Starbow Forest. The trees were halfway to bare, a few stubborn orange leaves clinging to the the branches, fighting to remain until the first snow at least. The undergrowth was still populated by tufts of ferns and dandelions and bracken, but they'd gone wispy and light, nearing the end of their lifespan. A breath of a moment, caught between seasons. Tranquil swooped through the air, Paras contentedly gnawed their way through the damp forest floor, and every Pokemon prepared for a bright new day. Pollux the Cubone stepped out from the shadowy bushes into the flower patch, the weak sunlight glancing off his face. He clutched his bone tighter to his side, glancing nervously back and forth. You see, Pollux had... well, you could call it bad luck, karma, or even a world just determined to spite him at all costs. If he had a fun bit of small talk with the Teddiursa who lived at the edge of the forest, you could be certain that an Ursaring was right around the corner. If he had a good day, then something was going to go wrong. Eyeing the stone in the centre of the clearing suspiciously, Pollux held his bone tightly to his chest, prepared to swing it at the first Stunfisk that popped out. He was so focused, he didn't even notice the Pokemon behind him... until it was too late. [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiKubo's grip tightened on the bedsheets as Shi's blonde head popped into view. That was... maybe one of the worst people who could've shown up to this discussion. Shi wouldn't, couldn't keep her mouth shut. This was a disaster. But even so... "Hey, Shi," Kubo said calmly. "We were just discussing a plan to trap the mastermind. I don't suppose you'd be interested in joining us?" Who knew how long she'd been listening out the door? It was better to get her on their side, then play dumb and have her run to Miyako and tell her everything she'd heard. Shi wasn't to be trusted, but at the same time, he was fairly confident she at least wasn't the mastermind. Nobody with eyes as dead as those could've organised something like this. She didn't feel cunning in that way either, certainly not the kind to have planned out something this in-depth. Of course it was stupid to trust intuition, and quite probably she didn't have a speck of loyalty in her, but... She's not the worst, he reminded himself firmly. You can play her. Miyako HirotoWhere was Shi? Pacing around in their shared dorm, Miyako was beginning to worry, fidgeting with her rings and tying and retying her hoodie strings. Had Miko intercepted her girlfriend? Hurt her in some way, some horrible way only he knew how? Shi was too vulnerable... too sweet to Miyako. She might even decide to trust Miko, think that she could reason with her girlfriend's brother, despite what a monster he'd become. She needed her here, right here in her dorm, where she was safe and sound, and Miyako could protect her. [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiWatson, huh? Well, that was insulting... but Kubo could bite his tongue if it meant nabbing the mastermind. "Basically," Kubo began. "We're going to lay a trap..." Then he was cut off by the sound of the creaky infirmary door swinging open. [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiThat sounded... just a little bit sarcastic, but Kubo'd take what he could get. Even fake enthusiasm could get a mastermind-catching plan in the works. "So... the identity of the mastermind. I have a good idea, but if we're going to kill someone we better damn well be right. That's why you're here." Kubo stepped away from Lucian, still keeping his eyes fixed on Idris. "You've got a good head on your shoulders. You aren't stupid like Setsuna or Darcy and you're a hell of a lot less arrogant than me. If there's a flaw in my theory, you'll catch it. So..." Kubo drummed his knuckles on the edge of the infirmary bed. "Listen carefully, okay? If I'm wrong about anything, I'm trusting you to spot it." [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiMy... knight in shining armour? Kubo blinked. "Well, for once Idris, your princess isn't in another castle. You've got two princesses, and a fake murder plot to plan with them." He moved to stand in front of Lucian, and gestured Idris over. "Lucian's part of the plan. I know him pretty well, and I don't think he's secretly orchestrated this whole killing game... so he'll be helping us. I hope that's okay. This whole business is a three person job." [Read more] |

27 Journalist --- Well, that was pointless. Everyone was waking up anyway. Offering the boy a placating smile, she turned to study the group. These people were interesting characters. From a little girl, blinking bewilderedly in an oversized fisherman's hat, to a tattooed woman with bright purple hair, or even that mafioso looking guy over there with the bleached hair... quite the cast for this little play. "Well," she said aloud. "What a fascinating turn of events. It's a nice spot for a party... I wonder which one us is the host?" Standing up, she brushed the sand off her clothes, taking a moment to adjust her top. Unfortunately, mesh and wet sand didn't go very well together. Hopefully there was a change of clothes somewhere around here. "Anyone want to claim ownership of this place? I can't say I'm mad about the free vacation... but your pickup policy could use some work. I'm not really a fan of kidnappings." [Read more] |

Kubo AtsushiWell, now was as good a time as any, he supposed. "I have a plan to capture the mastermind. It requires the work of three different people. You, me, and Idris." Kubo drummed his knuckles on the edge of the hospital bed. "I'll get into the details once he arrives. For now, we can look for any hidden cameras. I think there's just the one, but we might as well double check." [Read more] |

Welcome to Cygne Island!~~~ May all liars see their comeuppance. 27 Journalist --- Even as a little kid, Kelsey had known she was different from those around her. In Redgate, people drifted through life, eyeing their neighbours with suspicion, attending social greets where they talked about new schools, new people, new opportunities for things to go wrong. It was a sad sort of life, hating everyone and everything unfamiliar, making up lies and gossip to bring up your social standing in a town of barely two hundred. Those people would grow old and die, still complaining about that new, strange Remington family down the street. The quiet girl, the sickly boy, and their ever-distant father. Because why would they care about the strange, the unfamiliar? Their whole world was happily condensed in those few square miles of dusty soil that made up the withering home of the Finns and the Sandeeps and other concepts and peoples that were familiar and real. To be different in a small town like Redgate was hard. For years, she'd struggled to be normal, to distinguish herself from her father and brother and make friends in a classroom of thirty judgy kids. She'd grown up a liar, desperate to be someone of value in a place that valued nothing but how long you'd been squatting on a piece of land. Being normal meant being a liar, if you were Kelsey Remington. If you were normal, you were supposed to be hating and judging and believing wrong about everyone. Trying to be a regular person in such a town meant being someone who would forsake the truth, leave behind precious values like that of justice and honour and love for the world, just for a little bit of false respect. She was seventeen when she decided she couldn't do it anymore. Ten years ago, Kelsey Remington left Redgate and all its lies behind. She went to school, she became a journalist, and she began a life of pursuing truth, exposing the corruption in media, flaying open lies and exposing the bloodiest, the darkest, and the most beautiful aspects of human nature. For all the horrors, Kelsey loved people. Because when it came to it- for as awful as they could be- in the end the only person a human being ever really wanted to lie to was themself. In the darkest of people, you could find the most honest. How ironic. Kelsey also loved the bitter taste of some sweet irony. -- Kelsey's eyes snapped open to a beautiful new day. The sky was bright blue, clouds peeled back to the edges of the sky, white, fluffy and as wispy and delicate as spun cotton candy. The sun burned bright and hot, reflecting light off the glittering sand, the vibrant greens of the palm leaves at the edge of her vision... She came awake. That wasn't normal. Where was she? Sitting up, Kelsey's hand dug into the sand, squeezing the grains in her palm. She lifted it up, and watched as it fell through the cracks of her fingers. "Well," she muttered, her voice cracking horribly. "Either this is a wacked out dream, in which case I really need a vacation..." Or I've been kidnapped. Because there was no way she could afford to come to a place like this on her own. She lived in a musty old studio apartment in New York for god's sake. Even the rent had her broke. Her crappy landlord was probably charging the rats two grand a month just to live in the walls. Looking around, Kelsey saw that she wasn't alone. All across the idyllic beachside, people lay. Some curled up on their sides fetal position, others lying flat. She'd guess maybe seven or eight people, unless there were others past the treeline. They were of all ages. She was the first awake, but probably not for long. Even now, they were stirring. Looking down, she realised she'd been lying next to somebody else. A teenage boy with fluffy brown hair and a soft, peaceful expression. Reaching out, she gave his shoulder a little shake. "Hey, kiddo." Her voice came out raspy, and she cleared her throat. "You should probably wake up now. I don't want to be convicted of murder when someone's heart inevitably gives out, so you'll have to act as my witness." [Read more] |

Kubo Atsushi"...where do you think you belong?" Kubo didn't answer that, because he was fairly sure Lucian hadn't meant him to hear it. And it was a silly question, anyway. He belonged in a little village, nestled beneath the mountains and the sky. A little boy, cradled by the whole world, gazing up at the sky, reaching for it. Trees and grass and green and bushes... the whole world contained in the terrarium of Shirakawa-go. Until the infinitely-wished upon star would hit the earth and burn that whole bewitchingly beautiful place to the ground. And him with it. [Read more] |

Kubo Atsushi"You told me to get out of there." Kubo flinched. That was true. He hadn't expected Lucian to come here, though. Why not his dorm? Why not to the kitchens? Why does he take me so... seriously? It was an odd feeling. For so long, Kubo had been pretending to be someone else, someone unworthy of respect. They'd seen a pathetic, snivelling boy who couldn't stop his ridiculous stutter. Then he'd come out of that sweet sugary land of lies as the mess he was, determined to tear everyone down with him. He hurt people, and hurt them again, and all he could focus on was himself. Why didn't Lucian see that? Why did he listen to him? It wasn't even as if they were in a trial, begrudgingly listening to what the Ultimate Detective had to say, if only to keep themselves alive. Lucian just respected him. Kubo had no idea what Lucian'd seen in him, but somehow... it warmed his heart, if only a little bit. Even if right now, Lucian's voice was dull and flat, almost emotionless. As if something was broken inside him. "this place... I like it here. it's somewhere people's wounds can be mended. Like when... and... this is that place. Our place. Where we talked. I guess... I just found it most natural to come here. It's like I belong in this place. In a way." For some reason, the words sent a chill up Kubo's spine. They shouldn't. It was just more of Lucian's soft, non-sensical musings. Romantic fluff. "I don't think you belong here," Kubo blurted out. Cold talons raked their icy nails down his neck and he shivered. "This isn't the place for you. Not here, not somewhere sterile and cold and w-with tiles and crap. You... you belong out in the sun." So much for "Lucian" being the "non-sensical" one, huh? Kubo grimaced, but kept going. "Let's focus. Idris'll be here any minute now, and I don't want him attacking us when he sees you... if he th-thinks we're trying to p-pull something." [Read more] |

Miyako HirotoWith a huff, Miyako spun around and stormed back to her dorm, not even pausing to grab her discarded plate of dino nuggies, instead leaving them sad and half-eaten alone on the table. Good. Screw that and screw Sawyer. She had some thinking to do. Thinking about Miko, about her dad, and this whole killing game. Setsuna Jun"No need to ask me twice!" Setsuna squeaked, snatching Sutaraitsu by the hand and taking off with him. Tutus were not a good look on him! He'd tried them once, and never again! Kubo AtsushiThe camera clicked off as Kubo finally disabled it for good. Hanging it back up on the wall, he admired his work. It looked as if it were perfectly intact. Only the mastermind would know it'd been broken. And more likely than not, if they kept to a tight schedule, they wouldn't even have an opportunity to check the cameras before the ultimate plan came to fruition. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, and letting the fringe fall in soft, goassamer-like waves back over his eye. Kaoru always mocked him for all his fretting and worrying over his hair. Maybe she was right. Maybe it could've been spent doing better things, things that'd have made his future easier. But he knew a little bit of hacking, and that was good enough for today. Being merely a jack of all trades was fine sometimes, even if he was also the master of vanity. It worked. The door creaked open. Kubo went stiff. "Miyako?" he called softly. He glanced over his shoulder, bracing himself for the attack- White hair fell around a soft, worried face. Warm brown eyes bore into him, concern intensifying in their depths. "Lucian? You're here already?" Had something happened? [Read more] |
