He raised an eyebrow, smiling faintly at her.

He glanced at himself in the mirror in the corner of the room.

The timer ticked ominously over his head.

Huixin sighed again, looking up at the timer. It was like an annoyingly persistent bug she longed to swat away. A permanent reminder of incoming gloom. And the fall of more. Perhaps another third of people. She sighed, long and tired. Aiming her bow at a nearby shop, she sent an arrow whizzing through the open door, causing the security alarm to go off. Well. At least her aim was still good.

Hearing the yells from below, she noticed a group of people pointing and screaming at her. Shit. She was caught. Sprinting away, her hair turned bright bubblegum pink, nose shrinking and freckles appearing, rendering her completely different from the face the shopkeepers had spotted. Putting on a scarf and talking out a fake cigar, she walked back onto the streets, whistling casually

Ophelia watched as the timer ticked down.

She stpped out into the streets.

There was a certain anticipation in the air. A certain feeling. Like everyone across the world were holding their breath.

Ophelia sighed. She lit her cigarette, bringing it up to her lips for a moment.

A familiar voice can be heard from not too far away, as Huixin approached Ophelia, giving her a look. Her bow was slung back against her back, her hair shifting back to its usual black and white.

“I’d be surprised if you weren’t.” Huixin leans against Ophelia, eyes flicking back up at the timer

“What’s on your mind, Ophie?” She asks, handing the other a pair of earpieces.

She takes out her first aid kit, absentmindedly cleaning up one of Ophelia’s more recent wounds

“You look more tired than usual. Which is worrying.”

“I suppose. If you want to call it that” Huixin frowns a little, but doesn’t press further.

“Wanna be my partner?” She offers- though she already knows what the answer would be. Huixin still wanted to hear it, though. It felt grounding, in a way. An anchor amidst the storm.

Huixin pulls out her items, checking them over. They needed to be in good condition, if they were to survive this.
