Forum-Index → Roleplay → A F T E R W O R [L] DThis is a fact. No scientist, physicist, geneticist, or psychic could ever figure out what happens after death.
I'll tell you what happens right now, though.
We go to a world known simply as "After."
It is a more fantastical, wondrous version of our world, with stunningly tall mountains, huge plains of grass, and large kingdoms, where science and magic are indistinguishable.
If you're reading this note, you're dead. Congratulations! Welcome to your second life. you'll be transported to the moment in life that had the most effect on you as a person, both physically and mentally.
Follow human decency please. Thank you!
(Ps. We'll be contacting you with more information on your missions :P)
Play nice, kids!
-The Creator.
A man sit in a chamber, supported by black marble columns. His hands discharged black jolts of lightning into the earth, powering... something. He was exhausted. he had been here for... what, was it two centuries now? He sighed. He was so... tired. He had forgotten what other humans were like. only a few people stayed fresh in his mind... The face of his very best friend, Violet Hart... His closest confidant, Elucian Anaheim... His "student," Athena. He so badly wanted to brush his long, golden-brown hair out of his face, his scarlet eyes tired and unfocused. The burns across his body ached.

Staring down at herself, she raised a hand to her face. She was... 19. Unsurprising, given the contents of the note. Reaching into her cloak, she could feel the gun she had kept close to her in the years in between. Elle looked at the piece of paper, and was vaguely aware of the similarities between this, and a certain tape she had received long ago.
She wondered if, no when, she would find Kendo. And Violet, and Athena, and the others... Everyone she had desperately tried to remember and forget, all at the same time.
Missions. The afterlife was shaping up to be pretty interesting...

"Excuse me, ma'am, may I know your name?"
The moment Elucian entered AFTER, Two scars on the man's body ached, The sharp, petal-shaped scars in the center of his forehead and over his heart. The burning bullet wounds that had killed him, on that fateful day. The lightning cut off, but the charred, darkened ground kept sparking. He started to laugh, looking up at the ceiling of the chamber that had imprisoned him for two centuries. His grin was wistful and wide, his laughter loud and booming. His shackles ratted as he lifted his hands from the scorched earth.

"Which one?" She asked. There were many names she answered to, and not all of them were good. There was the name she was born with, the nicknames given to her in her formative years, her alias, the name she ended up choosing, the various titles she had been called... Yes, maybe Elle was messing with the universe, but the man needed to be more specific.
"I've been known as Elucian Anaheim. But if you asked me today, it's Elle K. Compass. Are you here to give me a mission?" She stared at him, unflinching, emotionless. She had been rendered incapable of love and all the other wonderful emotions normal people could enjoy. Life had not been kind to her, and she had spent the majority of it atoning for her sins.

"Elucian Anaheim! I knew it! Hah! Oh, the old man'll be so happy!"
He turned on his heel, walking off.
"And yes! I do indeed have a quest for you! You may choose to accept it... or you don't have to."
The man gestured for her to follow him. He cheerfully whistled as he skipped along the plains, making his way to a nearby town.
"Shall I explain the details of your mission to fully join this land, Ms. Elucian?"

She idly reached for the gun with her mind, and found that her powers still worked in this world. Wonderful. Suspicions danced on the edge of her vision. Where was Kendo?
But she would hold that question for now. Elle waited.

Of course, Elle was no stranger to operating in the dark. The last time she looked nineteen... well that was the time she had tried to forget. No one had told her anything. Elle had needed to figure it all out herself. She wondered if he had confided in her if it would all have turned out differently.
Nineteen. She still couldn't believe she was nineteen-year-old Elle again. She had aged gracefully, only looking about sixty at the age of eighty-four that she had died at. But nineteen. The bits of strength that she had lost, the strength she hadn't even known she was missing, had flowed back into her physical form. It was a welcome change.

"Like I said. This is all up to you, of course, I could giive you a different mission if you so please."
He scribbled directions down on a notepad, before handing them to Elucian
"There you go! Those are the directions to the cave, through the tunnels and to the chamber where the old man is locked up in!"

"I'll do it," she said with a sigh. "At least it will pass the time. Is there anything else you can tell me? And will all future 'missions' be as vague as this one?"
She took the notepad from him. Was that... crayon? Had this man really written out directions in different colored crayons for her? Elle rolled her eyes.

He disappeared in a bright flash of light, leaving behind nothing but more questions.

Well, she wasn't called Compass for nothing. From what the scribbles told her, Elle had a long distance to go. She pocketed the note angrily. Strangely, Elle wasn't hungry at all, and wondered if the dead had to eat. But that was a problem for another day. She had to start somewhere. Wordlessly, Elle began to walk in a straight line.
I'm coming Kendo.

His grin was wide, his scarlet eyes sparkling. He had gotten a note from the Messenger a little bit ago that Elucian was on her way. He hadn't seen her in so long... He had been so lonely.... for so long...

The note was rather vague. It reminded her of something all those years ago... But at least it was a start. A slight idea what was going on. She had heard theories about living in an afterlife after death, but none of them were detailed enough to explain to her what was happening. This 'afterworld', was rather interesting, she had to admit. It seemed like a more perfect version of the real world. But appearances could be extremely deceiving. She'd learned that the hard way. She seemed to be back to her 16 year old self. The year when... Ok, ok, just stop. No. That was in the past, now was the time to worry about the present. Let's see... What to do first?

Looking at the crayon-scribbled note, she flipped it over again, and again. If her calculations were correct, she should be nearing the entrance of the cave soon. But then again, this was the afterlife, and for all she knew, she could still be thousands of miles away.
Slowly, a large form began to fade into existence. The haze made it hard for her to make out the exact dimensions of the structure ahead of her, but it was huge. Slowly, she could see a great opening recessed into the ground, surrounded with golden runes. It was vaguely reminiscent of the land of Gauwyuqb, an ornate, towering city of gold she had visited on her travels. She hoped that there weren't giant wyverns roosting in this cave...

Left, right, left, left, right, left, left, right, straight, left, right, straight, straight, left, left, right...
It went on forever, a spiraling line that took her deeper and deeper into the labyrinth. She could hear the roars of strange monsters, and the dripping of liquid in the distance. Still, she walked on. While Elle could have used her powers to fly, she was enjoying the brief feeling of normalcy.
