Who noticed that if this was implemented, if people abused it to make the auction on for an hour longer or more, that the person who set up the bid, if they had promoted the auction they would pay 300 extra which they (probably) wouldn't wish for. What if they had less than 300 after doing that?

This also makes me raise a question, wouldn't it take a very long time to recode the whole promote auction? And, once again, what if they had less than 300 after doing that? It would go into the minuses, and no coding could fix that.
If you didn't cost them extra? But that could also be a keyhole to abuse to make a bid promoted for longer without paying extra.

Butthurt, really... No, it's more like annoyed. I don't get any logic out of your reasons.

Trainer_Red: What? xD

The only good reason I've seen so far by non-supporters is that this could make auctions take forever to end. But even that can be countered. By this logic, there shouldn't be 13 day auctions because these take forever and are pointless because everybody just bids at the last second anyway. If you bid a lot of PD, nobody will want to outbid you. This will only make the playing field more fair, that's it! Nothing more to it really.

I'll have to say no support on this as well.
I personally think the Auction system is fine the way it is. If you really want/need a Pokemon, you pay attention to it, the price, and the time, and put a reasonable price which will most-likely make users not want to out-bid you. There's already ways to prevent snipers, and if this is implemented, I could just see this causing more problems (which were pretty much stated by others).

What I'm saying is that the auction house/system is quite fair right now. If you need a Pokemon, you work hard trying to get it. It wouldn't really make sense if you don't do much work for something you really need. Like I stated. If you really need a Pokemon, make a reminder/alarm till when it will end, or a few seconds before it ends. This will give you time to increase your price.

For example, you put 5000 PD for a Pokemon and someone then makes a bid of 5500 in the last few seconds. Since most likely people will bid a few PD higher than the winning price, you could bid a higher price, like 7000 or 8000 which may prevent snipers from winning in the last few seconds.

I guess when it comes to auctions, technique does matter.

Quote if they had promoted the auction they would pay 300 extra which they (probably) wouldn't wish for

No they wouldn't. It would still be considered as ended for the sake of the promotions. And coding wise for implementing this suggestion, as far as I can tell, would take five minutes, tops, unless the coding for the auctions is an absolute mess that can't be re-worked at all. In which case, I doubt there would be searches for auctions as well.

And no auction will go on forever. If we really wanted to make things more complicated, it would only be visible to those who already placed a bid and the one who put the pokemon up for auction. This means no new bidders. And everyone has to sleep at some point, so the moment someone stops placing a bid within the last ten seconds or so, it would end. So that's not really a valid argument either.

Pretty much the only reason I see for not supporting this is this:
Lazy
or
Enjoys the fact that sniping is possible as you're one of the people who use/abuse this fact.

Even watching the bids, and having what should be an insanely high bid on auctions doesn't stop people from outbidding you the last second. And I'm sorry, but I don't want to bid 100K extra on every single NORMAL Pokémon I bid on to guarantee that I get it, as that's just insane and ruins the fun of it.

Having it work like the real world seems ideal to me. And if you really are worried about it, then add a CAP to how many times a snipe bid will extend the auction. Really, it shouldn't be needed more than once, maybe twice. So cap it and be done with it.

i would actually like the idea but with limits (these might be stated before) of 10 seconds increase per bid when the clock is already under 10 seconds and max. 5 or 10 times... in real life when one makes a bid the auctioneer gives all other the option to go over the bid but he'll end it after a few seconds if no bids are mde anymore)

Take some time to answer my polls on my profile. Thanks

I do support a little snipe guard. I do not support a time extension though. I would support if only those who made a bid previous to the last 10 seconds can then make a bid in those last seconds. Why? Because of people like these...

My bid, sure it was low, but this is the kicker.

That is way I would support something like that. When there is absolutely no reason for someone to snipe an auction except to directly tick someone off by keeping them from winning an auction. Things like this actually happen pretty frequent to me. I find it utterly ridiculous as to why they must at the last sec bid on the same auction I have (no matter what the bid is) when there are one to three other auctions, of the same gender same type of pokemon up at the same time that no one else had made a bid on.

I have had others target me in the AH too. No matter what I made a bid on, nor how high, they kept sniping last second on any auction I made a bid that they saw. Who would pay 11k for a magikarp, especially when there were 7 other magikarp auctions with bids only in the 10's? I didn't, I made the 9ksomething bid to test if I was really being targeted and that is how I know for sure. No else made a bid, except for that one same user who had been doing it all week, at the very last second. Now please, tell me it's all fun and games. Because, really, would you find it fun if someone started doing that to you?

This has suggestion has popped up again in another thread so I thought I'd give this one a bump and add my own thoughts as well.

I regularly attend auctions in real life, I like getting something for a cheap price, then doing it up and selling it on for a profit. In a real life auction, at least every auction that I've ever been to, when there is a last second bid, the auctioneer will give the other bidders a chance to respond with a higher bid before finishing the lot. However, the auctioneer will only wait for a few seconds, they aren't going to wait around forever for you to make up your mind to bid or not. Also, the amount increased with each bid depends on the current bid. For example, if the current bid is $250, each following bid increase will usually be $5-$10. In this example the auctioneer would normally not accept $1 bid increases as it would go on for too long. If the lot was more expensive, the bid increases would be higher. Sometimes the bid gets too high and you have to drop out. That's life. You get over it and look for another auction to spend your money on.

So, with that said, here are my thoughts on the suggestion.

- 1 minute is too long. 10 seconds should be more than enough time for you to place a counter bid. No auctioneer in real life would wait an extra 2 minutes for a new bid.

- If this was implemented, once the extension starts there should be a minimum bid increase. That would stop people from simply bidding 1pd more each time it extends. If you don't have enough money to increase your bid by, too bad. It would be great if this could be coded so that the minimum depends on the current bid. For example, a pokemon with a current bid in the 100s would have a minimum increase of 10pd, a pokemon with a current bid in the 1000s would have a minimum increase of 100pd, and so on. You could, of course, still bid higher if you wanted to.

- If this was implemented in this way, I don't see that auctions would go on for much longer than a few minutes. As has been mentioned before, everyone has a limit and with the minimum bid increase, that limit would be reached fairly quickly.

- The only real downside to this that I can see is that sometimes someone with more money with you will get the pokemon you want. Well, sorry, but that's life. You just get over it and try bidding on a different pokemon, or come back with more pd next time.

What would be the point?

At the last second, someone bids. It gets extended. At the last second, someone bids. It gets extended. People will always auction snipe if they want something. All this idea would be doing would make the Pokemon go for more or just go to another person.
