Luna nodded' "Alright! I'll try something else." To which she
promptly sat and held her hands in a cup like gesture. An orb of
water from the lake floated towards her, settling in her hands,
freezing on impact. She then tossed it in the air, sending more
water to form a bowl underneath, then shaping a knife out of the
ice. Her forehead was creased in concentration. She started trying
to carve runes onto the orb, but once the knife dug in, the ice
went back to water, landing on the ground. Luna stared at it.
"Furthest I got in a while." She just made a quick wave, sending
the water back in the lake.
Therese clapped regardless and then looks at her own hands. There
was an interesting spell her grandfather used before but she was
unsure to either use it nor show it to Luna... the hesitation
shows, so does her sudden shyness from using the spell.
Luna picked up a stone and carved a simple rune on it, she set it
down as a slight mist came from it. She looked at Therese. "All the
spells I know really only revolve around water, so it would be cool
if you showed me some of yours.
Luna smiled, "I had considered energy when I came, but decided
against it, can I see what it looks like? Just to make sure I have
a good sparring partner when you're ready." She added the last part
with wink.
Therese thought for a bit and then opens her little notebook again,
flipping to a particular page and handing it to Luna the other way
around. Her favor she asked for was obvious: Hold it up.
You know the first rule in combat?
Shoot them before they shoot you.
Luna did so, and watched, with a growing curiosity, thinking about
seeing other people's magic and talents up close. In other words,
she was very excited.
Therese takes a deep breath and looks at the notebook, those spells
from her family are a lot harder to execute. Starting to dance a
bit, she closes her eyes to forget that Luna is watching her... and
as she dances gracefully, she leaves a small trail of energy
behind. The trail grows in intensity before it forms into an
afterimage of Therese, replicating her exact moves four seconds
ago, as the two now sync up and it looks like she is dancing with
herself but not alone. It ends with a striking pose, which the
afterimage slams into Therese, diffusing itself into sparks and
steam.
Luna gaped, "Wow," she gasped in awe," that... Therese, that was
amazing! She ran full speed up to Therese and began peppering her
with questions. "How did you do that? It was really cool! Was it a
family spell?"
Therese opens her eyes and seeing Luna up close immediately, she
flushes red and pulls down her hat, covering her face. Panic
sketching, she shows answers with a very inelegant writing style:
"Magic, thanks, yes."
Luna sheepishly laughed. "Sorry, it was really cool." She tapped
her chin, thinking. "I wonder if we have a friend circle with
people using different elements, so we can view them all to
practice how to cancel out weaknesses."
Luna continued thinking up a storm. "Or we could find a place with
books about it. I'm sure I could do that. Wonder if there's a
library here. Do you know if there are any libraries here, I mean,
in Cretori, books about magic were banned and anyone who was caught
with them were arrested on the spot."
Luna nodded in agreement. "Yeah, probably. If we can find it, we
can spend a day or two reading and cataloging the tricks." Luna
didn't really know if there was or wasn't, nor how to carefully
figure out what she needed.
Luna nodded, "Yeah, but, I like reading things because there's a
sort of deliberate quiet to the words when at the same time,
they're speaking to you, teaching you their secrets."
Therese was a little shocked, both at the wordiness of Luna but
also because, well, she was right. Taking out the starry notebook
again... she stared at it for a little while. Then, after taking a
little piece of paper, she hands it over. The note just read
"Please be careful. It is priceless."
You know the first rule in combat?
Shoot them before they shoot you.
Luna stared at it, "Wha-? Therese, it's yours, I can't just take
it. I mean, I could copy down them but, the original texts could be
destroyed. I- I just, I get clumsy sometimes." Luna sighed,
confused by the offering.
