Kari sadly stared at Kessoku until they disappeared from view.
Maybe if they hadn't agreed to stay with the human, they could go
after the fused dragon to keep them company. But, if they tried to
go for them now, Faren might try to keep them here by force. It was
best to lay low and not cause any problems.
Kouko sighed, lying down on the bed in the guest room after coming
home and loosely explaining things to her parents. She didn't go
into detail; she said that there was a freak accident in the lab,
she was the only survivor, and she needed a place to stay. They
happily took her back in for a while, and it was nice, albeit
tiring, to catch up with them. She would be clear with what
happened some time later, but for now what she had said was fine.
Now that your home, you want to find something to occupy
your time. Whether it's worry about the Pokemon you created or
anxiety caused by lack of work, you need something to do. Do you,
perhaps, take a new job right away or, maybe, take on a
hobby?
Kari sat awkwardly somewhat away from Faren. Nothing had happened
yet, but they just couldn't immediately trust a human. That being
said, Kari was desperate for a conversation after being
locked away for so long. "Um, so... What's your plan? I think you
were saying something about a journey when we, uh, m-met? Sorry for
listening in, by the way..."
After a bit of thinking, Kouko had a plan. She was, of course,
worried about the Pokémon she created. She was also worried about
the Pokémon they had experimented on. Surely, there would at least
be one survivor... right? The occupation had already paid well. She
was financially secure, as was her family. She had already been
cleared of charges against the damages on the lab, so she had no
legal issues to worry about, either. She could become a Trainer,
and seek out the missing Pokémon. The only issue was, she was too
old to get a starter from any professor. Being an adult, though,
she was allowed to go through tall grass to try and catch something
on her own, which is what she was planning on doing tomorrow.
"Oh, yeah, about my quest!" Faren said to Kari. "My journey is to
travel across Unova, gather the gym badges, have fun, and to make
friends along the way. Isn't that right Maractus?" he
continued.
"Mara! Mara!"(Happy and excited noises)
"So yeah, I was on my way to the lab when this strange voice said
My dear child, fate has big plans for you. After that
was when we met.

"M-maybe you heard the same voice I heard..." Kari quietly mused,
smiling a soft and nervous smile at Faren's enthusiasm. "I've
been... alone for a long time. Some people... did some experiments
on me, and when they decided they were satisfied. But then I heard
a voice, and I think it helped me get out?" Then, they suddenly
giggled. "I... I guess it's really fate, huh...?" they asked no one
in particular, giving a genuine smile for the first time in a
while.
Kari woke up, somewhat disoriented. "Free..." they murmured. To be
honest, Kari didn't know how they felt. Faren was better than the
humans in the lab. And yet, he was still a human. Something could
still happen. But, still... they wanted to believe in Faren. They
couldn't trust him yet, but they hoped they could.
Kouko is still sleeping, now that she doesn't have a reason to be
up at an ungodly hour. If she were awake, she'd probably be feeling
determined to get out there and find the missing Pokémon. But,
alas, she is not awake.
Faren woke up in the tent and headed outside. "Ahhh! What a good
day today is. A perfect day for adventuring." Faren said as he
grabbed his things. He decided to sit down by a tree, not noticing
Kari, and pulled out a map to start looking for a place to start
the journey.

"U-um!" Kari nervously started, slowly approaching Faren.
"H-hello." They clearly were uncomfortable initiating a
conversation again, and couldn't manage to say anything else other
than that meek greeting.
"Oh, hi!" Faren said as he put down his map. "I guess we should get
going today huh?" Faren replied as he reopened his map. "Okay, so
we're here, and the first place of importance would be here." He
said as he pointed along the map. "The only place of big
significance would be the abandoned P2 laboratory not far from
here.
