"I really can't wait to go home now." Piper groaned as she walked around the science room with a broom in hand. Everyone here other than Hylla didn't know about her secret duties outside school, and it was forbidden to speak about it. She watched her green gem Amulet bounce as she walked.
Hylla smiled when Piper walked past her. School was the most boring thing in her day and she couldn't wait to meet up with other people like her. She really did miss Maxx badly though.
"Ha! You must be shamed about it!" That was what Maxx heard when he walked out of the school building of Edgewater high. Standing near his cousin Eden was a couple of older elves who seemed to be being mean to her. The moment they saw Maxx they immediately ran off, calling the wingless devil names like 'No winger', 'Grounded' and so on. He sighed, knowing he had to take Eden home, then run back to his own home because he was usually the one late in the trio.
"They were being mean to you." Eden said to him as they walked along the street to Eden's house. In her best mocking voice she started naming all the bad things the bullies said, which made the wingless devil smile.
"I wonder how Maxx's doing.." Piper whispered to herself. To normal people, they'd think she was talking about someone in another school. But for Hylla it meant their wingless devil boy
"Can you please come over today?" Eden asked for probably the third time this week. She was obsessed with a video game where you make things with blocks and fight monsters. Maxx didn't understand what the goal of the game was, but it was fun, before he became who he is today..
"Not today." Maxx started, looking down at the ground "I got homework- like a hour of homework.". This was indeed a lie.
A cool breeze set Ebony's skin shivering, carrying with it the scent of Brooklyn - sewage and fast food, for the most part. Letting loose a gentle sigh and shouldering her bag, the godling started the trek home, following several other magicians that she recognised. The already setting Sun washed her surroundings in a calming yellow light, forming a light smile on her face.
"Hey, guys!" She called, jogging to catch up to the group. They turned, greeting her with friendly smiles and raised hands. Rather loudly they each talked about their day at school, quickly arriving at the mansion.
Once inside, the Bast follower sat on her bed, humming and grooming her hair whilst scanning her room for any rodents. The things were everywhere, despite Ebony's constant attempts to rid the mansion of them. Several shouts and bangs could be heard through her door as the occupants of the house arrived from school. The ruckus from downstairs occurred every week day, so Purrs had come to hiding in her room upon her arrival; her cat-like hearing often amplified the noise to the point of screaming, so she avoided it by any means possible.
Once she had again changed changed into her casual clothes, she sped to the balcony, flattening her ears with her hands. Still humming, she pulled up a chair and sat backwards on it, facing the Brooklyn harbour and watching Philip of Macedonia send small waves over the brim of the pool. This was her usual position until dinner - by herself, enjoying only the soothing melody of late-night Brooklyn.
Hylla ran out the school gates, turning to Piper. "You're gonna be at you know where right?" She asked, and ofcouse Hylla nodded. She ran back to her own house, smiling at her fellow schoolmates who she passed
