New way to redistribute old retros
Forum-Index → Suggestions → New way to redistribute old retrosSome of them are currently unavailable (those from retro radar game) and some others are just yearly available during short periods of time (apricorn battle, halloween 2020, Christmas,...).
And here is what I thought: why not to use the basic rumble areas for this? I mean, the feature already exists in special rumble areas like burned tower or yellow forest, so it wouldn't be a programming craziness.
It could be something like this:
Silent Forest: Venusaur (Retro), Meganium (Retro)
Fiery Furnace: Charizard (Retro), Typhlosion (Retro)
Bright Beach: Blastoise (Retro), Feraligatr (Retro), Marill (Retro)
Windy Prairie: Girafarig (Retro), Delibird (Retro), Stantler (Retro)
Eternal Tower: Gastly (Retro), Haunter (Retro), Gengar (Retro)
Rocky Cave: empty for now, but it would be a perfect excuse to add a retro geodude line or similar
And for the legendary retro birds, articuno, moltres and zapdos, maybe they could appear in the windy prairie when the weather fits with their type to make the things a bit harder than with the other pokemon
What about recent and future retro events?
The newest retros (like gastly evolution line) could be unavailable in the rumble areas during a certain amount of time (6 months? 1 year?) or it would be unfair for those who obtained them in the official event.
And for the yearly events, let's put gastly line again as example , when Halloween 2021 comes there could be 2 different options:
a) redistribute gastly line again with higher shiny chance than in rumble areas
b) delete gastly from Halloween event and add another new retro for that year

Aside that, it gives a chance to renew rewards of some yearly events like retro delibird from Christmas. They can be thrown to the rumble areas while new retros can be distributed in those events, giving also new motivation to those who already have the old retros
As for the value of Retro pokemon, to make it harder why not make it so that they don't show up unless the rumble areas are a certain level?
For example you could make it so that retro pokemon become available at lvl 20 and the chances of them showing up increase slightly every 5 or 10 levels? You could also make it like a legendary map where you have to fight them and win so you can get them.
All of these would increase the difficulty while also keeping it possible for new players and making for another interesting challenge/intro to legendary maps and would help to avoid lowering the value too much.
I really like the idea with having the legendary birds being weather dependant.
What about the special evolution rumble areas?
What about a tiny increase to the chances of finding a shiny retro if you send the same (normal) retro on a rumble expedition?
However, there are some areas wherein I dont support. I think event-exclusive retros should just stay as event-exclusive (assuming one have a chance to get them yearly or almost yearly). That way when their "special status" wont be removed. Moreover, if the event where one can get one would be hosted again, ppl would still participate to get one.
The radar retros may be caught in the ff areas:
Silent Forest: Meganium (Retro)
Fiery Furnace: Typhlosion (Retro)
Bright Beach: Feraligatr (Retro)
Windy Prairie: Venusaur (Retro) (i chose windy prairie for the venusaur so that more sunlight can be absorbed by venusaur if it will be in the windy prairie instead in the silent forest)
Eternal Tower: Charizard (Retro) (charizard would be suitable in rocky cave, however doing it would make the water starters no place to put into, so i chose it to be placed in eternal tower, since in firered pledex habitat entry of charizard, it is found in mountain area which is a high place just like the eternal tower n onoy charizard among the six can fly, moreover a fire pkmn on top of a tower would still make sense unlike a grass or water pkmn)
Rocky Cave: Blastoise (Retro) (i first thought blastoise to be in bright beach as it is saltwater, however upon research, i found out that there also turtles who lives in freshwater and alligators on saltwater.)
Placing them like this would produce a pattern.
Silent Forest: Meganium (Retro): Johto: Grass
Fiery Furnace: Typhlosion (Retro): Johto: Fire
Bright Beach: Feraligatr (Retro): Johto: Water
Windy Prairie: Venusaur (Retro): Kanto: Grass
Eternal Tower: Charizard (Retro): Kanto: Fire
Rocky Cave: Blastoise (Retro): Kanto: Water
which is similar to how pkedex entries of starters are sorted based on typings grass -> fire -> water.
For the legendary birds:
Silent Forest: Zapdos (Retro) (since the forest would be burned or frozen if moltres or articuno would live there)
Fiery Furnace: Moltres (Retro) (since moltres is a fire-flying type pkmn)
Bright Beach: Articuno (Retro) (since in firered, articuno is found in the seafoam island)
Windy Prairie: Zapdos (Retro) {since maybe in windy prairie, ppl uses wind as source of electricity)
Eternal Tower: Moltres (Retro) (since moltres is a fire-flying type pkmn, and in firered moltres is found on mt. ember)
Rocky Cave: Articuno (Retro) (since in firered, articuno is found in the seafoam island)
To be honest, my first idea about this thread was just focussed in exclusive to the retro radar pokemon. But when I started distributing what pokemon would fit with each of the basic rumble areas I had troubles to locate the 2 fire and water starters. So yours could be a perfect alternative to what I wrote.
Regarding the legend birds, your idea looks good too, but I still think that special conditions to make them trickier to be obtained should be needed, no matter the area where to find them
And about the other event retros, here I half-disagree. As said before the main idea was just a way to redistribute retro radar pokemon BUT I also tried to be in riako's shoes and think in future new releasings and the possibility of renew some extremely repeated event rewards. So it is more about giving "options" to the site owner than "must be done this way" stuff. Examples as I see them (I used a basic traffic light code to see the ones that requires an urgent renoval):
- Retro Delibird was first distributed in 2013 Christmas, so it has been distributed during the last 7 years. Each Christmas event lasted for 25 days. This is probably the one that requires the highest "face wash". In fact retro stantler was a try to make the christmas event more interesting as delibird was starting to "smell" after all those years
- Retro Stantler was first distributed in 2017 Christmas, so it has been distributed during the last 3 years. Each Christmas event lasted for 25 days.
- Retro Marill was first distributed in 2018 Apricorn Battle, and it has been distributed just twice (2018 and 2019). Each Apricorn battle lasted for 21 days.
- Retro Girafarig was first distributed in 2019 Apricorn Battle, and it has been distributed just once. Each Apricorn battle lasted for 21 days.
- Retro Gastly , Retro Haunter and Retro Gengar were first distributed in 2020 Halloween Event, and they have been distributed just once. Halloween event just lasted for 10 days.
I also saw a trade that made me realise that it'd make sense to have Retro Gastly (eggs)/Haunter/Gengar available as Burned Tower recruits, ideally with the latter two retaining their 2% shiny rate, as Gastly is a natural spawn in both the Tin and Sprout Towers so having it in Burned Tower works too because Retro Rat/Bat eggs are there when theyre wild in Tin/Sprout tower. There's also the fact that Haunter/Gengar were part of a very brief event that felt rather shallow and were absurdly rare/hard to get even as normal ones let alone shinies, to where many users saw maybe 1 Gengar the whole event and missed the one chance it gave them to get it which was very frustrating.
And to add to the retro egg issue, this is loosely connected but I would love for their to be a Leah the Mermaid trade in which she took a whole lot of Tentacool and a few Retro Tentacool from your fishbox and offered you a Retro Tentacool egg in return. Imo that thing is unbearably chance-y to get shiny via normal means and being yet another unobtainable Eggdex mon also bugs the hell outta me lmao.

No support.
These retros should stay event only, and it kinda defeats the purpose of making the event happen occasionally.
Doing so will also crazily kill the value of these retros
While implementing this idea, why not implement the special vilvillion into rumbles too? It’s because it’s EVENT only.
Many of these retros had come out time to time again, and will probably will be available via the retro radar occasionally when riako feels like it, at least that’s what I think will happen
so, no support from me.

As a new user, the retros are the most difficult to get (excluding the concentration retros).
For most we have to wait for the annual event like Christmas/Halloween (eg - stantler, delibird, gastly line) or buy vouchers (for kanto starters and mew). Which is totally understandable since they can be got after a moderate amount of hardwork/waiting. So the suggestion stating that those don't need to be made available through rumbles makes total sense
As for the ones that were available through the retro radar, it happened in 2018 according to PH Wiki... So for a new user, it won't be available till the next retro radar game and nobody knows when this will happen again. It makes no sense for people to wait another 5 years after the previous event (this is just an assumption that the event may happen as best case scenario) to get the rarer retros. Most people might even have left the site before that.
For people like me who like to collect all dex entries, the availability of these retros being limited to the amount caught during the retro radar game is too less. How is one supposed to get all retros if no one is willing to sell them? So if this suggestion was implemented, it would totally increase the amount of retros that could be distributed to the people collecting them.
But at the same time, as another user suggested, there should be a high level of the rumble area (say 50 for the Johto/Kanto starter evolution #3 and 75 or 100 for the birb trio in the respective areas) to make these retros available, so as to not drop the value of the same due to widespread availability. Getting one would be a result of great dedication and piled up hardwork. This would also make it considerably more possible for shiny hunters who'd like to collect shiny versions of all pokemon.
Honestly, I like the distribution given by ~razpberry more since the birb trio are well distributed and not just to windy prairies.
I really hope this gets implemented (why? the reasons are above)
