alright, some people have been making accounts based on other users, calling them "r*tarded" or saying "they have autism", ect ect. i think that maybe, to end this whole thing, if someone tries to sign up with an "offensive" or not-so-nice word in their name, then their registration should be blocked. for example, in the actual pokemon games if you but the name, say.. and i tried to find the most child friendly one here: you cant name yourself or your pokemon "crap". you'll get a message saying "you cant name blah blah that, thats a bad word!" maybe we should have a system like this for usernames and pokemon names to avoid needless harassment.

I am mixed. On one hand I dont really care unless the name is really offensive like if it said [BEEEEEEEEEEEEP]. on the other hand, it doesnt really affect me

I would support but....

Things like this would be easy to bypass, since you would need to say make an entire list of strings in an array to be blocked in the first place, and there's going to be just pretty much an endless amount of them because there's so many ways to bypass foul/offensive language.

I'm not saying that this wouldn't help, but my point is that this wouldn't prevent the issue there would be at hand with trying to implement something to effectively combat this problem. There's simply not really a realistic way that's practical enough to block out people that would ultimately wish to have offensive Usernames.

With all that being said my stance is neutral, and personally I wouldn't care if Riako bothered with doing something about this, or not. Mostly just looking in at it from a coding/development perspective here.

it might not affect you now but it very much could happen to anyone. people are targeting and bullying others by making whole new accounts. it could happen to you, it could happen to your friends- heck, could even happen to me. but this would affect if you changed your username as well, not just your first one.

yes, it may be a whole new thing that could possibly be difficult to code, but people SHOULD NOT be getting attacked. period. adding something like this can make it harder to do that. onee less avenue.

I agree with Ephenia, so I'm neutral.
Also, if someone doesn't have their username as offensive words, they could easily find another way around that to possibly bully someone.
It's kinda unrealistic to filter absolutely everything.

im not saying "filter" absolutely everything. im saying censor certain words. obviously, theres many ways to bull someone. but those ways you can delete on your own if youre lucky (i believe you can delete pms?) or just go to staff. but apparently, accounts cant be removed, from what i heard, so why risk it? it wont hurt to filter words like "r*tard" or other words. filtering these words hurts literally no one, just make it harder to make hate accounts.

Words can be censored but just as easily bypassed. One could put a 3 instead of an e in the word r*tard.
While I believe an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure it is much simpler to just block and report them. Therefore there is more time to code in other features.

i have been reporting them, but its not like they can remove the accounts. they've said before they cant and wont remove them, so reporting only locks the account.

Full support. As an autistic myself, seeing the r-slur is... Painful. And since usernames are semi-permanent and can't be changed/removed until the cooldown is up, there should definitely be more regulation as to what you're allowed to name yourself. I don't think "autism" should be censored (since autism isn't bad even if people unfortunately try to use it as a bad thing), but slurs and curse words should be. If it's against the rules, then you shouldn't be able to name yourself it due to the semi-permanent nature of usernames on here. Pretty much every other website/game I play has said filter in place with usernames, so I honestly don't see why Pokeheroes shouldn't. Sure, people could Try to bypass it, but it'd still make it more difficult. Same goes for every rule on here; people still break rules even if they know they'll get warned/banned, but that doesn't mean the rules shouldn't be enforced anyway. Saying we shouldn't try and prevent it just because some people would work around it is Ridiculous IMO.
And also, locked accounts keep their usernames. So that slur account that would get banned if made still exists. The username is still out there, and if they made any forum posts/feeds at the time, the posts still stay. It's happened before, and it's disgusting to go into a forum and see a slur just Right There.

Censorship definitely should be implemented ASAP.

There are also accounts that are named horrible things, targeting specific users with very violent and inappropriate actions. I don't believe simply keeping them from being able to register an account with these names is enough, as they could simply create a spam account and still harass users. I suggest a more severe punishment for accounts with offensive and inappropriate names: permanent IP ban.

So what is the problem? Let the account fade away and be forgotten. If you are still annoyed you are giving them power over your life.

I do agree with DustyZoiveon about not censoring the word autistic.

if not censorship, then accounts need to start being reviewed before the confirmation email is sent. saying "this is not allowed" or something like that, but the harassment is ridiculous.

Support in one way or another. I don't see censoring working, since as others say there's so many alternative spelling for things.

As long as people report when they see them or if a mod catches them, they should be IP banned for starters. All actions have consequences so doing so will make them lose what they worked on with their main. There's a reason they hid behind an entirely new account to antagonize someone, so the best way to fight that off is giving permanent consequences for one.

And also if mods or Riako could have the option to change a user's name or somehow ocmpletely delete an account that would help. If anything I think having the ability to change a username, whether it's Riako or the mod team, would be helpful. They could just spam a letter. Say it's [insert insulting username here], they could change it to [aaaAAAaaaaaaaAA]
a placeholder if they're unable or unwilling to delete an account permanently.

It is censorship though by definition.
I agree with ImperialHound though. Mods changing usernames would be quite helpful.
As for page deleting I think only Riako can do that.

They could also use their trainer ID as the placeholder username, I've been on websites before that just gave you a random ID as a temp-username until your chosen username is approved so that's an idea. Though I don't think approving every username is realistic at all for PH, since Riako would probably be the only one with the power to review them, we could incorporate a system like that for if someone does get caught with an offensive username.

Just throwing this in here.

The ones spamming the creation of accounts with offensive Usernames, cheating features of the game like interactions and Royal Tunnel, and just multi-accounting/bypassing bans, they'd all be gone if there were a practical enough way to get rid of them. Which there isn't.

The only way they'll stop is if they ever get bored, and giving them the attention/reactions they're wanting will only fuel them more to continue with their actions/doings.

It's better to be the change, instead of wanting the change. Best advice I can give.

Though it may create a bit of ‘chaos’ I do think doing something similar to Animal Jam would be best going forward as DustyZoiveon said.
All users wait for their username to be approved, and until then keep a defa ult name, some version of ‘Jammer7375.’ Obviously it would have to be something else here and need some sort of review process, and even if you don’t think it’s the BEST ideas it’s an option that should be considered. This IS meant to be a child-friendly site.
It would get past the bypassing of blacklisted words as someone mentioned before.

Quote from *AbyssalMadScientist*So what is the problem? Let the account fade away and be forgotten. If you are still annoyed you are giving them power over your life.

@*AbyssalMadScientist* : Not me personally, but there are players online that can be heavily affected by what people say, especially if they see it often/consistently. This website is meant for people of all ages, and that includes children who may be easily influenced. The account doesn't need to exist for a long time, but the fact that it does exist and targets specific people is enough to negatively impact users.

@Ephenia : I understand IP banning is not fool proof by any means. VPNs and proxys are common and easy. But why not make it more difficult for those who do not use them, yet still have mal intent? At least it would keep upset children from spamming the website with offensively named accounts. Just my thoughts.

Also, 100% agree with the username changes being able to be made by admins

So, if IP ban don't really work really well, then try to ban network card's MAC? You can change your MAC O N L Y by buying new card, so I think its waaay more safer? Like, who would like to spend about 10-20$ for only make insulting account?
