Berry Composting (Berry Garden)
Forum-Index → Suggestions → Berry Composting (Berry Garden)So here's the issue - Imagine you've been in the berry garden for a while. You're working on leveling up your berries when you realize... You have HUNDREDS of lower level berries that you don't have any use for! What to do with all of those berries?
My suggestion is to add a new item to the Tool Shed. A compost bin! You'd have to buy it and just like the Seed Makers it can only hold so many berries but after a while the berries have turned into compost! Which you can use like mulch to alter the harvest of your next set of berries. Maybe the kind of berry you use to make compost could affect what berries it helps grow. Kind of like real plants. You make Pecha Compost and it works best on Oran Berries.
This would add another use for lower berries, add another PD sink into the system, make gardening a little more fun, and help people who like to keep their berry bag organized with only the berries they are working on!

Or alternatively an option to throw berries away could be added. It would simply delete the selected number of berries from your bag and you wouldn't need to worry about them.

I adore @CreativeJackalope's idea for the composts. This thread was originally intended to make the Berrygarden more interactive in itself for those who enjoy it more than other aspects of the site. With the new update released for bringing berries back over into the main game, it feels like it's both including the garden more, but also making it seem akin to the Route 53 areas where their main purpose is solely to produce items.
I was hoping that adding this compost feature to the garden would make it more like a game/minigame rather than just another item farm. If not then it could be added to the Route 53 area selections instead of the Town where more game-like pages are kept.
A very quick example of the composter in the Tool Shed
UI for using is can be very similar to berries into the seed makers with the addition ot noting the berry's flavor next to them with a berry icon colored to match. This icon can be in similar placement to the stars indicating growth time.
For Composts I've recolored the Mulch pixels to indicate which
(Red=Spicy Blue=Bitter Green=Dry Pink=Sweet Yellow=Sour Purple=Rare Grey=Bad/Curious)
Composts can either be added to show in the Mulch menu on gardens, or as a separate menu despite acting the same.
To determine which kind of compost you'd get for mixing 3+ flavors, there can be an internal chance table that would give bad/curious compost 75-80% and rare only 20-25% of the time or an even slimmer chance than that.
It'd give another place for berries to go and uses for those thousands of one type of berry to be used for more than just certain picky pokemon when interacting and heal items in the cooking pot.
Furthermore, if implemented, it would be nice if higher levelled berries worked better (more compost, more effective compost, higher chance of getting shiny mega compost, whatever). Just so there would be enough point to higher levelled berries to compensate for the longer seedifying and growing times.
While I like the idea of specific berry compost improving the growth of another specific berry, I have another possible suggestion for how these Composts could work; their effect could be based on the "flavor" of the berries used. So for example:
If you make Pecha berries into compost, you'd end up with Sweet Compost which boosts yield and lowers growth speed.
If you use Chesto berries for your compost, you'd get Dry Compost that increases growing speed but decreases berry yield.
Berries with more than one flavor - like Sitrus, which is Dry, Sweet, Bitter, and Sour - could randomly select one of the flavors to use for the created Compost, plus have a very low chance to make a level-up Compost instead which would instantly boost the Berryplant's level by 1 (and possibly a low chance to make a "bad" compost, to balance out the risk of trying to get the level-up compost).
To preserve the Nugget-value of Mulches, it could require a large amount of berries to make a bag of Compost - like 100-200 or something - so that it still takes quite a lot of effort, and it could perhaps take 6-12 hours to fully compost. Another possibility is to make the Nugget-bought Mulches have no "drawbacks", ie they just give a benefit such as increased yield, whereas make the Composts have a "tradeoff" effect similar to the original games, ie boosts yield but lowers speed of growth.
Some suggestions for the possible Composts, all single-use and only usable on soil BEFORE a Berry is planted (to prevent avoidance of the increased growing time):
- Sweet Compost - Increases yield by 2, decreases growth speed by 10%.
- Sour Compost - Increases yield by 5, decreases growth speed by 25%.
- Dry Compost - Increases growth speed by 10%, decreases yield by 2 (to a min. of 1)
- Bitter Compost - Increases growth speed by 25%, decreases yield by 5 (to a min. of 1)
- Spicy Compost - Doubles experience gained from harvesting the Berries, decreases growth speed by 20%.
- Rare Compost - An equivalent of the level-up Mulch, named after Rare Candies. Instantly boosts the Berryplant's level by 1. Would have a very low chance of being made when Berries with 3 or more flavors are composted.
- Curious Compost - Randomly either increases yield and decreases growing speed, or increases growing speed and decreases yield. Would have an uncommon chance of being made from Berries with 3 or more flavors being composted. Suggested so that we can balance out the possibility of getting Rare Compost.

Also Mulch doesn't have to be bought, sometime they appear as a reward on the Bulletin Board. I would only buy one if I need to, through nuggets or GST.
