Hi! Um, so I've been trying to practice with 'glowing' or fluorescent effects in art, even made a new oc to force myself to practice, but I'm having some trouble and i can't get it to look right..
Could anyone give me a critique for this? Other advice is welcome as well. ^-^;

Note: His hind legs are supposed to be shorter than his forelegs, it was an attempt at an exaggerated hyena style of body that.... well idk if it worked or not. <.<;

Maybe you should try studying some neon lights for reference, such as this. The part that glows is going to be really light in value and color (NOT WHITE); the edges are slighty darker, and then the reflected light on other objects is actually pretty dark.
Id say play around with Google and your art program and nail down basic shapes before you try to do it on a more complex shape (like the mane on your creature).

Yo peepz, is anyone interested on having an art homework? Ness is gonna give me themes and exercises every week.
It's not gonna be easy though, just saying. It includes stuff like drawing 100 heads, or... Idk, 50 animals in different angles. For the week. (I'm used to this kind of workload so it won't affect me as much, but this could be a chance for you guys to improve).

If it's optional, I wouldn't mind taking on some of the easier challenges in between my commissions. I actually have a full plate, and because most of it is pixel work, I wouldn't mind having something other than pixels to work on at times XD

I already have one Image I need to do for Nessy, and two personal images to finish up, but after that, nothing is planned...

It'll be mostly with reference because it IS an improvement challenge, and you won't get better if you keep drawing the same thing wrongly over and over. You'll just develop bad habits. And you gotta know how the rules work before you can break them. :'D

I intend on continuing my challenge thread though if you wanna take part on that ouo I'm working on the critiques right now and I'ma post them all when I'm done and before I head to class since I feel bad about taking this long

Then I should try with the challenge even if I haven't got that much time lol. I've seriously abandoned art this month other than a couple art trades because being at uni from 9 am to 7 pm...OTL no energy

So I'll surely stalk your challenge

I'm planning to bring along a tiny pocket sized sketchbook along with me to campus everyday so I can doodle/sketch in between classes (with refs if needed lol)
since i have all the data i could use, might as well use them for searching refs instead of on online games :u

It sounds like a lot of fun, not to mention some motivation to actually do something useful. And the harder the challenge the sweeter it is to overcome it.

Well it's not like you guys need to draw everything anyway, you can adjust the number of drawings to your preference. It's like I said, Im used to the workload so doing 100 hands in a week is pretty much nothing compared to what I had to do on my first year at Gnomon.
Also does anyone wanna help me with the improvement challenge thread? ouo Im gonna need someone to help me with the topics, preferably in a different time zone.

I could finally have something to do during spanish and History class that aren't mishapen doodles
