My problem was that I couldn't get the pokemon to be able to search in tall grass for mystery 7... until AFTER it ended, then the people on the gts responded. I could only solve 6 of them then, and that didn't include the one with the new moon map which made me sad. X[ either way though, I still managed to find the message, mainly with the first four letters, and the second to last letter was what told me there needed to be an S at the end. thanks for the event, but if it could've been so that all of the ones that required pokemon were based on ones that the user had... I wasn't too concerned with a shiny one but I'm still sad I didn't even get a non shiny one. but it doesn't really matter. thanks anyway. I'm sorry so many people were illegitimate...

Well that's interesting that it's considered cheating all of the sudden. I did not cheat...but I DID REPORT someone who had posted a clue answer on their feed. And was promptly told by your staff that I was wrong, and that it was discouraged but NOT cheating or against the rules....a bit hypocritical here....

Guys the mysteries themselves you could help each other with. It's the sharing of the clue word itself that is the issue. Sharing that basically allowed people who hadn't unlocked the letters the chance to win the shiny.

To get a chance to win a shiny fairly did involve some brainwork and didn't really involve the show, which I don't have a clue is about. The first thought in my head was to move the letters one to either side. I was close but not good enough, and the clue about the show threw me off so badly that I ended up not having a chance at the end. Serves me right for looking at notifications!!

But anywho the event was set up so that those who worked hard and got to that stage had the best chance of winning, and it actually says in big bold letters "do NOT TELL ANYONE your code word!" above where you are supposed to input it.

There is pretty much no way of not understanding that you should not share the code word out..

Congratz to the winners ^^
The event was really fun and I enjoyed it so much <3 I did manage to solve all the mysteries and eventually the big code. Although I did catch some hints here and there to help me along the way... does that count as cheating? *laughs sheepishly*

Even though the number of people caught cheating is really disappointing, I do hope you'll organise this sort of event again..? Just maybe...? X'3

I do admit I did ask for some hints for mysteries like say mystery #10 and #5 and #7 and #9. #7 Because I didn't have a swablu egg dex and I was solving it before Riako fixed the problem. But I did help out other users by quoting the mysteries they had trouble with(Especially #3)

@everyone who doesnt understand why sharing the code word was cheating

if you were told that out of 60,000 players here on pokeheroes. that only 3 could remain and everyone else was banned, but there would be a contest to determine who got to stay. (drastic over-exaggeration i know, but stay with me)

then this exact mystery game was put in, and it said "But be careful: Do not tell anyone your code word! Remember that the more users who submit the correct word, the lower are your chances to win."

and then the game continued as it had in real life, at the end with 70% sharing the code word, but this time Riako said whatever they got the code word we'll put them in, and then 3 people who hadn't solved any of the mysteries but had been told the code word had won, would you feel cheated???

in summary, just because a rule isn't stated as a rule doesnt mean it isn't a rule, if you weren't told that robbing a bank was against the law would you be surprised when you got in trouble for it? sometimes we need common sense.

(sorry for being rude but there really was no other way i could put it)

Reklaw, you obviously didn't read my post.
If you understand the difference between "advice" and "rule," you should have no trouble understanding why saying "BE CAREFUL to not reveal the code word BECAUSE IT MAY NEGATIVELY IMPACT YOU" (advice, to be followed at the user's discretion) is different from "you are not ALLOWED to reveal the code word" (rule, to be followed with no questions asked).
The wording was the former.
It doesn't matter if one of the words is a command if the context clearly dictates that it is advice. I could say "Be careful! You shouldn't go outside, because it is raining!" This is advice. If you don't care that it's raining, you're going to go out anyway, right? Now, if I said "You're not allowed to go outside during this game," and you went outside, you would be cheating. But if you were just given advice and an example of what might happen if you don't follow it, without actually being told it's mandatory (and with it being implied that it's not if Riako is going to say "this will lower your own chance of winning" rather than "this isn't allowed"), then that's NOT cheating.

Keife, the same goes for you. It was NEVER stated that you cannot, only that you should be careful not to if you don't want your own chances being lowered. Your example doesn't apply because we're not debating whether it should have been allowed, but whether it's at all okay for people who did it, when it was allowed, to be being treated as cheaters and repeatedly bashed and insulted. See the explanation above.

Although many people may understand the premise just because a rule isn't stated as a rule that doesn't mean everyone will. There are many younger players I'm sure as well as users whose first language isn't English so perhaps we could attempt to not be so harsh...
I doubt this bashing of so-called "cheaters" will improve the community in anyway except to make users feel bad about something they perhaps didn't understand.

Thats awful :c I made over 15,000 interactions in one day to try to level up to 15 just to be able to solve a mystery and figure out the code word only to have people ruin it.
Thank you for your hard work on the event and on the site, you did a fantastic job! I'm just sorry that you feel like it got ruined. Maybe one day you can try again, I believe in you!

Oh and congrats to the winners!

Oh man, I got stuck on #10 and didn't have time to think it out....
I hope that there's still a possibility for more events surrounding a story, even if they aren't as big as this one, because I really loved the atmosphere of the whole thing.
Congrats to those who won!

Title: Somewhat flawed yet great project

This is my honest comment, analysis, and critique of the Darkrtober Fest to Riako.

I honestly love this event. I will be honest with you that this event is really good in just about every way. It got me consumed to solve it when I had college exams that were on-going in October 20-24. But this event had a few flaws that made this not fully enjoyable, and prevented this event from being the best of all events.

My experiences in this one feel so weird upon solving more than the Umbreon mystery. When I played concentration and found the darkrai cards, I suddenly get determined to solve it all. Mystery 6 was a very head cracking mystery. I recall asking others as to how they are doing on solving the mysteries. Some pointed out to me that mystery 6 and 7 are easy. That's all they told me even If im tempted to call for help. In my case, I discovered the jumbled letters of two pokemon. Then suddenly, I'm like screw calling for help! I can do dis! I got all of them solved. But I blindly missed one. I only discovered the last mon I'm missing on October 30 Philippines Time. I'll never forget Mystery 6 for sure. Since I gave up on winning this event (blame mystery 5), you know what I did? I traded the map I got from the black box for 3 more Star Pieces for me to get a Jirachi. Sorry Darkrai, she's my favorite mon. Not you Darkrai. Just play Batman as usual. I'm out of this.

Mystery 5 is suck a jerk to us trainers that are below level 15. In my case, I already lost not because of asking for the cheat codes. It's because of Mystery 5 for I lack enough time to reach level 15 fast enough. Mystery 10, wow! Mind =Blown! You caught me off guard there for sure. GG!

Theoretically, I might had solved like 9 out of 10 of those mysteries (had I scrolled down to the very origin news). But I have only three guesses using 3 out of 26 letters to pick. That means I had 3 out of 26 chances, statistically-speaking, to get the mystery solved. That is a really low chance to win the event. Is it fair enough or not? That's more subjective to be honest.

Also, you should had considered the trainers that just recently joined in the past 4-5 months that had no premium membership or very low leveled. You pointed out that most only got 4 out of 10 mysteries solved. My theoretical hunch is that some of those those that cheated had very low levels that are not yet level 15. But it is also possible that some are just too lazy to solve you like you pointed out too.

If you can, just avoid doing a mystery like that 5th one. Perhaps this is not your strong suit on event managing. I still like your concentration game however. So, "Manaphy, Here I come!"

I would like to say a few things about the Darktober Mysteries as well. I will admit I too asked for help on the mysteries, as did most of the users here on PH. But I would like to point out that even though some people asked their friends on PH for help, I found a sense of unity in it. It was a good way to build a decent community on PH by trying to solve the mysteries with friends. However it is cheating, but I don't deem it bad like the people who just say the answers for some lucrative purpose or just spoiling the answers for everyone to see because in the end its only making the odds of winning the grand prize decrease. None the less I think that Riako shouldn't lose faith because its not fair to the users who didn't cheat or couldn't solve the mysteries due to level reasons. Also that is also to say, most people did appreciate Riako's efforts in making a good event. So please don't stop making good events because of bad people.

First, thank you for the Darktober Event! The mysteries were Awesome and sometimes really hard, but it was fun!
Even though I totally agree with keife191, Trollkitten, loketoke and Carpet Monster.
Next time please make clear what you consider as cheating. ;) I don't like how you assault many as cheater while your rule wasn't very clear at the beginning.
Not only we but also the team can learn from this and make it better in the future!

Title: best mystery ever

i want write anything too.. something what i think ... first of all i am member on more sites witch have halloween events but the nicest event i ever saw was this mystery here.
i want say thank you for it :3 .. it made me a really nice halloween time. the best of it was to find out the final codeword ... it tooks me a halv day and many cups of coffee but then .. there it was .. sutch a happy feeling i had with it like many other user too. this is what makes me proud :D to find this word myself alone .... it is easy to get the answer from other user who done this work therselfes ..
i am really shocked about so many people who did all to get the word from other users only to have a chance of this shiny egg too ... yes ... maby it is nice to win sutch a worthy lovely but the main is an other thing ... the main is that it was a really nice time on pokeheroes, this DATKTOBER :D.

Awesome Event Riako! :D
It truly was one of the best events (Y)and the mysteries were challenging ...making you,the player, think what are the options. You might of actually find the option! But you just missed it by clicking around it or the site glitching and not respondind to your command
I heard some people had a problem with concentration game where the darkrai cards didn't work :p
Yeah that doesn't matter now i guess. You are not gonna make such big events like this no ? Beacause of the "cheating",that you might need to make a lot more clear next time :p.
Hope you and the moderators won't feel bad next time when you actually might make a new big event cause some people might of changed and maybe they won't ruin such a good event like this
Have a good day!
And yes.CONGRATULATIONS WINNERS!
