I don't think this feature has been suggested before, I've tried to search for it and couldn't find something that would fit with my idea nor something that relates to it.
Anyway, I'd like to suggest that we could be able to edit our PMs, just like we do with our forum posts.
I just sent a PM to -Max regarding a doubt I had with a certain code in the BBcode Guide thread but I accidently posted the same image URL using the [img] tag.

I know I could simply go there and send another PM or wait for him to reply and sent the correct image URL but maybe been able to edit your PM would be way more interesting and faster to fix issues you might've with it.

I also know that quite a few users will choose the option "This wouldn't affect me/I wouldn't use it" but I think it's worth a try to suggest this.

Thanks for taking your time to read this.
Have a great day!

th eonly real issue with this is when someone says something really bad that can just edit it and then you cant prove they really said it.

You got a point.
I can't really find a way to overcome this and to be able to let users edit their PMs.
I think you would need to take a print screen of it and maybe there could be a message letting the users who are part of the conversation know that the message has been edited.

Even when it's edited and you have the actual proof of it, image, I still think you'll be able to report the users to the Moderators.

You can screenshot. Also, you're able to delete Posts, so Wynaut edit PMs? I sprited something and put in the wrong link. I then had to find the link agian and send an new PM, instead of editing the existing one.

Support Btw, it's great.

Hope you know I'm not arguing with you or anything like that, right?
Also, same thing applies to feeds and forum posts.

The user can always delete the feed or edit the forum post before someone can actually notice it but your argument is sure valid and that's why I think there should be a note saying "[i]Edited at [Date] [Current hour PH based]" i.e. "Edited at 31/May/2015 13:52"

In addition to what Gabe is saying, I think there should be a way to view the original as well. This could be something only the site staff can do, but it can be useful in those events where the person would be reported but edited their PM. Next to the edited date there could be a link that says 'View Original' and would bring up the original message in a similar appearance as a quote or spoiler.

Perhaps an 'Edit History' like the pages on Wikipedia?

Having a way to see the messages and what has been modified in them would be invading the privacy of the users.
As far as I can remember, the Mods don't have access to your messages unless you send them a print screen of it (PM) or report it (PalPad conversations).

What about making the PM's editable until they have been read by the person who gets it?

That would solve the problem about suddenly changed PM's after you recieved one. And actually there is no need to be able to change a sent and read PM anyway ;3

That sounds more logical.
For example: user A sends a message to user B.
User B gets the notification with the letter sign on the upper bar and clicks it.
He gets to the PM's page and click on the blue box with the name of user A and gets redirected to the page with all their PM history.
When user B clicks on the message and opens it, a condition would be satisfied (.i.e. ViewMessage == true) and due to that the button/option "Edit message" would be enabled for user A to edit his message.
The new message would show up after user A would click "Edit Post" and refreshing the page.

I think Lighty_Luna meant that the button should be disabled after the message was read.
As long as the message isn't read, you can edit it, but that option disappears once the message is read.

(so the edit-condition should be ViewMessage == False)

Editing a message after it is read is unnecessary; the wrong message has already been seen, so you might as well send a new one, explaining/correcting your mistake.
Editing a message should only be possible as long as it hasn't been read yet (in my opinion)
