(OMG! That picture is so adorable!)

I walked slowly down the dark alley. Sure, it stank like a sewer but I sure as hell wasn't going to be walking down the middle of the road. My breath puffed white in the cold December air, reminding me of the need to find some shelter. Need some more food to. One can of soup wouldn't hold me. A growl emanated from up ahead as one of the things stepped out. No two of them ever looked the same as another, and they all had some kind of trick. This one was looked almost human, but was thin and starved looking. White eyes glowed from deep sunken sockets. The strangest thing about it was that it lacked arms. Only stubs were left, which twitched every couple of seconds. I pulled out my Glock, firing a round between its eyes. It's head jerked back, but it didn't fall. The hole in its brain quickly sealed itself. Knowing that I couldn't fight this thing, I imagined myself on top of the building to my right. I felt a familier tug at the base of my neck, and I was there. The thing below looked confused for a moment before wandering off. I sighed. What a waste of ammo.

(IKR! she's wonderful!)

"Get up!" was shouted at me along with a sharp kick in the side. I'd learned long ago trying to refuse him was useless. Seth took what he wanted when he wanted it. I sat up and climbed to my feet.
"Yes, master," I spoke softly, hoping to avoid his anger. He grabbed my hair and pulled me out of the small closet.
"Get cooking. I'm starving! It's the least you can do for the shelter I provide," he shouted at me, pushing me into the kitchen. "When you're done, you can rub my feet."
What I wanted to do was retrieve my weapons and cut his head off! Instead, I washed my hands. The slightly ruff scales and webbing appeared right before I began drying them off. Pulling out the food Seth had brought back, I started making dinner. While he wasn't looking, I ate what I could. Then I spat in what was rest. It was a petty thing, but the only victory I had.
"Here," I handed it to him with a napkin and silverware.
"About time! You're lucky I don't feed you to a thing! Now, rub my feet. If you're lucky, I'll treat you right tonight." he barked.
Pulling off his filthy shoes and socks, I began to massage his gross feet. It didn't matter what I did, he would still have his way with me against my will. Trying to cheer myself up, I looked out the window. A man stood on the roof of the building next to the window. I was so stunned I just stared! Suddenly, he looked over at me, making eye contact.

I glanced at the next building over and spotted a woman inside. She knelt at the feet of a man eating. Her condition was deplorable, thin and bruised. She looked directly into my eyes. They were the eyes of one who was broken, someone who had almost given up hope. Will you help me? they seemed to asked. I answered. Running to the edge of the building I jumped, crashing through the window. My feet slammed heavily into the man's chest, before I deftly flipped to a safer distance. I didn't know what this guy could do, so I had to be careful

I was so shocked at the man running into the room, I couldn't do anything but stand there, shell shocked. Seth looked up at the man, breathing heavily. Seeing my chance, I dashed forward, pulling the key from Seth's neck. He pulled at me, but as winded as he was, I broke his grip.
"What the flip are you doing here?" he roared at the man.
I ran to his room and broke the door in. I grabbed the box that he kept my fans in from the closet. With shaking hands, I unlocked it and grabbed my things. I grabbed a messenger bag from the closet and pulled on as many layers as I could. For good measure, I piled as many blankets into the bag as I could. Then I pulled on my cloak and put on the bag. Running back into the living room, I saw the man had Seth on the ground still.
"Thanks!" I called over my shoulder as I ripped the door open and fled the apartment for the hallway.

The girl bolted out of the building. I turned back to the man. He had gotten to his feet, fuming. "Your going to pay for that." He growled. Just as he came at me, something flew through the broken window. It was the monster from earlier. It knocked the man to the ground, before preceding to smash his head into the concrete floor over and over again, until his head was just a bloody mess. The thing started tearing into the corpse, ripping chunks of flesh off and swallowing them whole. I quickly took my leave of the place, attempting to follow the girl. As I exited I saw her running off down the road. I began to follow.

I was free! Finally free! No one was ever going to do those things to me again. I carefully ran down an alleyway. Using a fire escape, I climbed onto a roof of a building. Looking around, I planned my route through the city. I was headed back to my house. Something scuttled behind me. I whipped my head back and looked for the source of the noise. A thing made it's way out from behind a air conditioning unit. I pulled out my fans. I didn't want to fight the thing, but that didn't mean I'd let it eat me! I backed away from it slowly.

I followed the girl up the building, taking care to remain out of sight. She was a loose cannon at this point. No telling what she might do. A scittering noise made her spin around. I watched from my hiding spot as one of the creatures, a small spider like thing, crawled out from a coolent duct. She began to back up slowly, not really paying attention to where she was going. She was about to back off the building completely! I acted quickly using my element of surprise, to step on the creatures back. Pulling out my Glock I fired a round into its brain, ending the little beastie. "If your not more careful, your going to get killed before you can enjoy your newfound freedom." I said turning to her.

"Look, I'm glad you helped me and all, but I am not going anywhere with anyone! I tried that once and, well, you saw how that turned out," I told the stranger. I didn't know what to expect at this point. I had no idea what he could do. And my powers didn't really work unless I was in water. Thankfully I had my fans. Unfortunately, I was sadly out of practice. But he didn't know that. I kept them out and at the ready. If anything, they were sharp.
He took a step closer.
I tensed. It was getting darker and I did not want to be caught out here in the dark. "Why did you follow me?"

"I'm not going to save someone, just to have them die." I said, halting. "You obviously are out of practice in the art of survival, otherwise you could have taken care of this thing no problem." I kicked the corpse. "Your half starved and look like you got hit by a truck, so there's no way you would be able to take on any of the more dangerous Ex." I shrugged. "I care very little whether you trust me or not. If I had been inclined to hurt you, I would have done so already." I leaned against the AC unit. "And anyways, you have little power to stop me from following you." I don't know what it was, but this girl had peaked my interest slightly. Who was she? Where had she come from? What were her abilities? I felt I had to know the answers to these and other questions. But for now I would play it safe. Even if she was weak, she was pretty much cornered. And you don't mess with a cornered animal.

I stared daggers at him. I knew I looked bad, but I hadn't had a choice in that! Who did this arrogant guy think he was? I knew what men wanted. I'd seen other girls trying to sell themselves for a bite of bread! But I was certainly not like that!
"No thanks, I think I can manage," I told him. I began edging my way to the next building. The wind whipped at my cloak. I was thankful for the warmth it gave off. When I was ready, I pointed behind him. "You're not one to talk. You've got another breathing down you're neck!"
When he turned to look, I jumped. Landing hard on the next roof, I tucked myself into a ball and rolled. Popping back up, I darted forward in the direction of home. Jumping over trash and obstacles, I looked back. I smiled when I didn't see him following me. That is, until I ran into something solid.

I watched as the girl ran. Oh well. Even if she trusted me as far as she could throw me, I would still follow for a while. Maybe prevent her from getting killed too quickly. She suddenly was knocked back, as if she had run into something. The Ex dropped its cloaking shield. It looked like a steel skeleton, with red glowing eyes. A sword hung in a sheath at its side, which it promptly removed, brandishing it menacingly at the girl. That one is definitely stronger than most. The girl, still dazed from her hit, couldn't do much to protect herself. I had to do something. I ran to the edge of the building and jumped. The teleported to a spot, still in the air, behind the thing. Bringing my fist around as I fell, I smashed its head into the concrete. "Go! Run! Get out of here!" I shouted at the girl, as the monster jumped up, throwing me off.

I couldn't believe it! He was doing it again! He didn't have to tell me twice though. Jumping to my feet, I ran. Hurtling debris, I made it to the next roof before turning to check on how the guy was doing. I might not trust the guy, but I wasn't about to let that thing eat him! He was on his back, the wind knocked out of him. Darn it! I ran back, pulling out my fans.
"Hey! Ugly! Want to play?" I yelled at it, hoping to distract it. I dashed forward and swiped at it's neck, hoping to sever it's head. Sheer dumb luck was on my side and I managed to slice through the decaying flesh. Quickly, in kicked the head away from the body. Taking a few steps back I ducked my head, then ran at it and pushed it off the side of the building.
"There! We're even," I told the guy.

That was fairly impressive. Whatever those fans were made of, it must be strong if she was able to cut through that things metal neck so easily. I smirked. "Technically you still owe me one, seeing as I saved you twice. But I digress." I stood, brushing my jacket off. "At least let me help you get to somewhere safe. Don't forget that you're the one who wanted my help." I gave an unconscious tug at my scarf. "I'm going to follow you whether you like it or not, so why not have someone to talk to instead of me always standing twenty feet behind you."

He'd probably just follow me anyway. I didn't really have a choice. I shrugged. "But touch me anywhere I don't want you to and you're losing a finger. You've been warned."
I turned on my heel and walked off. "I'm not slowing down, so you better keep up."
Black storm clouds rolled in. I didn't like the look of it. Thunder rumbled in the distance. It was much too cold for rain. Thunder snow was on it's way, great. I pulled up the hood of my cloak and stuffed my hands into my pockets.
I glanced over at the guy. "Well, I can't just call you guy, so what's you're name? I'm Maurina."

I understood why she was so jumpy around men, seeing where she just came from. But it was rather ridiculous of her to assume that all men were exactly the same as the swine she had been living with. Oh well. Guess it can't be helped. "I'm Jacob. Jacob Finestro " I said as we walked. The clouds on the horizon were thick and black. A storm was coming. I do love storms.

"Well, hello Jacob," I said, lapsing back into silence. Soon snowflakes began to fall. I pulled my cloak tighter, shivering. I stopped and pulled out some blankets from my bag. I silently handed one to Jacob and pulled the other one around myself. I cursed the fact that I had no gloves, scarf or earmuffs.
"We're almost there. I can't leave you out in the cold, so you can stay the night. Look out for any wood. We'll need a fire," I told him. Hopefully my stock of food was still there. And the fresh water I had stored.

I handed back the blanket to her. "You need this more than I do. I'm fairly resistant to most weather conditions." I kept a carful watch for any Ex in the area. A few wandered around about six blocks to the south. Plenty far enough away for now. "If you tell me where we're going, I can scavenge a bit and then bring anything I find back." I wanted to test whether or not she would try to get away. If she lied about where she was headed, there was really no point in sticking around. I dispise liars

"I guess," I sighed, "We're almost out of the city. Head about fifteen minutes down the road. Turn right at Graham Dr. Like the cracker. Then follow it all the way down to the lake. My house is the three story Victorian style house. Don't just open the front door though. I hacked out the floors around the doors to prevent Ex's from getting in. You'll fall into the basement and I don't know what's moved in there."
I hoped I still had wood stacked in the attic, but it never hurt to have spare wood around. I really hoped Brutis was still there. But I hadn't been there to feed him for a year now so I didn't blame him if he left.
"Oh! Watch out for a black wolf. If you see him, give him the command 'Jia'. It will send him back home to me. I hope...He should listen. If not, just throw him one of these," I said, pulling a small dog treat from the hidden compartment from one of my fans.
