Author's Note:
This story is an original, by me, and if I find any part of it copied and put on another website other than PokeHeroes (rest assured I WILL find out), I am having a "serious talk" with you. I mean it.

Anyway, all subtle death threats aside, I've been pushing this story 'round in my head for a couple of years now, and have decided I ought to put it down in paper just now. Or on the internet. Whatever.

From the title, you can easily gather that it involves dangerous experiments, illegal doings, and overall advanced technology that the humans of today haven't even remotely touched. (Love you guys <3) But I do hope my amateur-ish writing has improved somewhat the past few years, and that I can actually make this unique and better than most typical stories that revolve around technology and the "evolution" of the human race.

Also, I REALLY want to finish a decent sized story around 20 chapters long without long hiatuses in between.

If you have any comments regarding this story, preferably constructive criticism, please PalPad or PM me.

Do not post here, thanks.

I'll edit in a list of characters after some of them are introduced, and will continue to list them down one by one as they are introduced in the story.

ϟ Prologue ϟ

Deep within a supposedly nonexistent oasis in the midst of a forsaken desert, an outlandish assortment of buildings stood against the unforgiving desert winds.

If one was there to witness the brief moments when the winds paused to take a breath, they would notice how the air shimmered like the broken fragments of a kaleidoscope, the light halting when the winds started up again mercilessly.

But there was no one to see. And so the buildings were left alone.

As if that wasn't enough evidence that the buildings were clearly NOT abandoned like its surroundings, it seemed that their glittering silver walls never faltered to show off, shining beams of light day and night. The forces of nature did what they could to topple these alien structures - structures that could only be found usually in the cities of the unkind humans. Yet the buildings stayed in tip-top shape, looking like a beacon of two-faced darkness to the desert dwellers. The cynical fauna kept their distance, cursing it from afar as they scuttled to and fro the oasis.

The buildings were undoubtedly manmade. And though the locals scoured the surrounding area for any sign of a human, they turned up nothing. Frustrated and anxious, everyday they would perform a meticulous, and somewhat useless search. Their instincts were screaming "INTRUDER!", yet reality seemed to defy this.

Their instincts were right.

The desert dwellers were intimidated by the presence of the alien structures so much that they would not enter them. Unsurprisingly, the answer lay within the cold, chrome walls of the laboratory, for that was what it was. A crimson color carpeted the similar silver floor, discouraging anyone to look at the room for too long due to the bright light reflected. But this was not the end of the secrecy.

In the deepest part of the lab, within a vast vault (yep, still silver) shut away from the rest of the world by a variety of high-tech locks guaranteed to be unbreakable, was a bed.

It was a perfectly normal bed, with a pillow and sheets. Unlike the rest of the interior, the bed was pure white. The sheets shifted slightly, and abruptly, its owner was revealed.

Her eyelids blinked open, revealing silver orbs that were the exact same color of the room. Her hair was a fine sheet of a blonde so white, it shimmered when the light hit it. Her face was void of all emotion, her lips pressed together so tightly it appeared as a white line.

Her slender fingers, which any pianist would envy, drummed lightly against the white sheets, in a practiced method that sounded like a cricket's call.

Then the walls and the floor flickered, becoming transparent. The air seemed to buzz with an energy that wasn't there - the sound of thousands of people walking. The bed appeared to be floating in midair as the girl sat there motionless, only her fingers seemingly able of movement.

My name is 02431. I am a project of SterTech Corp., founded in year 2785.

And I am most definitely not your ordinary human.
