NightShade came face to face with what looked like her grandfather, TigerStar. "Grandfather." She mumbled, putting her head against his pelt. "NightShade, I am not your grandfather, but your great grandfather, there is something you need to know." Her great grandfather said, looking down at her. The young she-cat looked at him, shuffling her paws. "Blood will melt into the mud and will sprout into a tree." He started. "What does her mean?" She thought. "You will figure out, you are a smart she-cat." He said, purring. He walked over to a bush and grabbed a while lilly and put it in her fur next to her ear. "Good luck." He said, and StarClan began to fade.

NightShade woke up in the Warriors den, the sun shone brightly, she walked out from behind the Warriors den and sat at the lake separating ForestClan from DawnClan. She looked into the lake and saw the lilly in her fur still. She purred and walked back into the clearing, sitting up and looking up at the sun shining through the trees.

(Wait. But she doesn't have hair, it's all fur?... And her ''hair'' can determine anywhere, since Nightshade is a cat?...)

[That still doesn't make sense... Tigerstar is a Dark Forest cat, and his spirit isn't there anymore. Even so, a Dark Forest cat doesn't give omens.]

Fernshade woke up in the Nursery, a cold chilling at her stomach. "Wake up, kits." She meowed quietly to her three sleeping kits. Three of them shuffled, but got up as her tail lashed across them softly. Echokit and Thornkit bounded up to her, pouncing up and down in excitement. "Do good in the battle, mama!" Thornkit mewled.
Stormkit purred, his paws batting at Fernshade's tail. "I will, my kits. For you three and DawnClan." She meowed, her tongue lapping over all of the kit's foreheads. She padded out of the Nursery to join the hunting patrol with Nightshade.

NightShade padded over to BrindleStar. "I had an omen from StarClan, I have worked it out, my great grandfather said that blood will soak into the ground and a tree would grow. Could this mean that BloodStar will turn back into TreePelt?" She said, sitting up straight and facing her leader.

Fernshade had padded silently next to her friend without Nightshade noticing, probably because she was so curious. "I'm not sure, Nightshade." The leader mewed. Fernshade's head turned to her black-furred friend. "Nightshade, what about the hunting patrol?" She reminded her friend.

"Just a sec. What about the deputy? He died yesterday in battle and you still haven't chosen one. No wonder there is a thunderstorm, I think StarClan is angry.

Brindlestar's whiskers twitched in amusement. "You forgot? Lionheart is deputy now." The leader chuckled lightly, her tail flicking. "Now go to your patrol, Nightshade." She mewed and padded away. Fernshade seemed uncomfortable.

"My mind is so messed up, I'm getting a memory of a mouse." She said, padding off to the entrance.

A tiny tiny bit later

Fernshade's ears pinned back from the concentration she was giving to hunt. Not only was her mind utterly distracted, but she wasn't the neatest hunter in DawnClan and her old mentor had always commented that she hunted rather sloppily. And her mentor, Soothewing, was now the most polite elder ever to exist.
She crouched down until her stomach barely touched the forest floor, her legs aching and her back feeling scrunched as she followed the tantalizing scent of a lark. She crept up to it as silently as she could, but the alert bird's feathers ruffled and the bird's wings spread out. Fernshade pounced towards it, her flank brushing against the stalks of grass as she was in midair and launching at the bird.
It took off, and her paw brushed against it's feathery wing but failed to pin it to the ground. Her eyes narrowed. "Mousedung!" She spat under her breath, the warrior's fur ruffled as she ignored the loose pieces of grass that had decided to stick to her pelt. A nearby holly bush rustled, a strange aroma filling Fernshade's nose. She was rather confused. Where have I smelled that before?... Rabbit?

In the middle of her thoughts, Fernshade was slammed to the ground by a fast, heavy, furious paw. Her eyes zipped around the terrain, but the Hunting Patrol had split up to catch more prey so they could take better advantage of the new-leaf. "Dear StarClan, you were easy to take down." Purred the wily meow of a tom. StormClan. Fernshade concluded, sure this was the scent that came off of the tom. It wasn't very strong and Fernshade didn't expect her Clanmates to smell it. His thick, bushy tail curled around her muzzle and clamped it shut. "You were such weak prey, and I'm rather surprised from the show you put on by defying Bloodstar," the StormClanner purred slyly, almost like a tease.
Fernshade growled, and the tom could tell by the vibration in her neck. "Fierce, though." He added. "Your tail smells like mousedung. If you even dare to think that you can get away with this--" She began through a mouthful of fur, but was cut off as his sharp claws raked across her back. "Silence!" He hissed in her ear sternly. The tease returned in his meow as he leaned closer to her ear. "Let's see how fierce you are when we bring you to the Arena." He mewed in her ear. Fernshade's ears pinned back.

Arena? She thought with wonder, her fur bristling straight up. She could feel the tom's breath on the back of her neck, and it made her feel exposed. "The Arena is where we keep our prisoners. Kits, warriors, apprentices, you name it. You see, StormClan thinks that prisoners aren't all that fun, so we put use into them." He said into her ear softly, as if it would frighten her. "We keep you in a cage and when it's sunfall we let you out into a deep, muddy ditch. You will then be forced to fight to death with other prisoners and if you don't we'll torture you." He paused, for dramatic affect. Fernshade remained unaffected by his words.
"Then, if weaklings like you actually survive the battles, you'll only have crowfood for prey and the water will be dirty." He concluded. "I've spoken to much." He grumbled, more to himself than to Fernshade. The warrior's large paws slammed at Fernshade's head, and the world dizzied and blackened away as she was dragged.

The patrol walked back into camp. "We lost FernShade, who wants to come with me to find her?" NightShade asked. She was worried about her best friend and hoped she was okay.

Fernshade woke up, sprawled on the ground. The ground, however, was rather dry and hard so it was rather uncomfortable. Next to her, a nimble white she-cat, seeming barely the age of an apprentice, stared at her with large, scared, light-blue eyes. "I won't hurt you." Fernshade promised. The she-kit was too scared to hesitate, so she nodded. "I miss my housefolk," the kit whimpered. A kittypet kit? She thought with a scowl. "The m-mean wild cats stole me... I shouldn't of g-gone over the fence..." She whined.
"T-they threatened t-to kill me..." The kit squealed as the guard up in the front of the thick bramble cage wall moved a bit. "It's alright," Fernshade assured. The guard's amber eyes turned on her. "No, it's not." He snapped. It was the tom that had captured her in the first place. Her claws unsheathed. "It's a bad idea to put me in the fighting rink, buddy." She hissed.

"Please. Stop acting all mojo, Dawncat. I've seen how weak you are." He retorted. "You'll see who I really am." Fernshade spat. Out from the shadows, a blue-gray tom emerged. "I'm half the times your size, she-cat. You seem rather weak." The tom snapped at her. Fernshade's anger bubbled, and her teeth sank into his left front leg. She yanked and twisted, snapped the tom's bone in a brutal, swift motion.
"Stop it!" Shrieked a light-brown she-cat, and she too emerged from the shadows. "You might get hurt, Lily! Get back!" The tom meowed protectively, and Fernshade supposed they were mates. She let go of his leg. "Don't mess with me." The Clan cat hissed at the rogues, rather hostile personality convincing them. The sun was beginning to set.
