Abryn Soelare

what's he supposed to be doing again

Cassidy Louvin

Hm. The place seemed lively today, not that it was unexpected but it was really just... Unsettling. Cass hadn't started the day off on the note she would've liked to have, and instead was on the verge of crawling into a corner, rolling up into a ball, and crying her eyes out. Even still, she kept her head high and her smile up, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Anyways, she got the news that today would be somewhat interesting at least, but to start it off she would need to head to the office of someone's name I cannot remember. Aww man... Guess that means she couldn't get her other work done, or hang out at the forensics lab like she had hoped... Oh well, she couldn't pass this up, right? She made her way to the assignments board and peaked around for her own name, finding it listed under an assignment alongside two others.

Niwa Atsushi
Cassidy Louvin
Iliya Orlov Volkov

Interesting... One of the detectives and an intern, this should be alright. They seemed to already be in the room, so she looked over and gave them a little wave, stopping at that.

Mei backed off, as requested, but made sure to do a little tomfoolery before she left the train cabs. The voice booming over them obviously dampened her mood, as shown by the eyeroll and a complete drop in her childish mannerisms. Mei was one of the last ones out, and on the way she saw...

A familiar edge-lord walking along as well. How convenient. She immediately began to frantically wave and excitedly grin in his direction, moving closer while calling out some weird ramblings. "Yoohoo, look who it is! Fancy seein' you again, ain't it?"

She took the time to notice the lack of life in general around the city, but drew no attention to it. Odd, sure, but she had other things to focus on.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Ugh that voice was like nails to a chalkboard, no matter how smooth and elegant it sounded on the surface. Instantly, he was weirded out by the complete desolation he had found himself in. Wasn't this place supposed to be... I dunno, overwhelming? Filled to the brim with citizens surrounding their new TV pets, a conglomeration of too many noises and lights to distinguish, and most of all, wasn't there supposed to be more structure? The best they got was a run-down intercom and vague directions?

The thought almost worried him.

"....i'm following you, Daischon. I don't have the greatest sense of direction."

...This wasn't going away any time soon, was it? It seemed as though Minya had already designated him as an "alliance" of sorts, against his best wishes. Oh whatever, not like it mattered. He simply gave a shrug as if to say "fine by me" before making his way to the building specified.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Liela slowly got up and clutched her sides, keeping her head low as she stumbled forward. The world almost became nothing to her at that point, just inputs that were being relayed as static in her mind. Moon's voice was just senseless utterings, the barren city around her was just a void of no meaning.

She always dreamed of being here, honestly. It just seemed so nice, such a peaceful way of living. It always seemed so lively from the videos she saw of her sister walking these same pathways. Too bad it was nothing like she imagined, but at this point, she didn't really care. A hatred for these scumbags had already soaked up all her admiration.

Without hardly any thought, her feet strutted over to the building and walked inside.

...

Odd. The windows were tinted black, and the air seemed to be significantly more chilling over here. The silence only seemed to get louder, and the general aura of this building was...

Foreboding.

Liela took a deep breath and pushed the glass door open, only to be hit with a gut-wrenching smell and sounds so horrific it was incomprehensible. The room was filled with the rotting corpses of the Capitol citizens, all glamourized as they normally would be.

The only problem was, these corpses were still moving.

As soon as the door opened, a unanimous shriek was let out among them all and the sound of dozens of chains rattling all rang out at once. These zombie-like creatures had been chained to the floor and walls, and the smell of living flesh agitated them.

Liela jumped back in fright, letting out a scream alongside the undead as she fell to the floor and backed away. Her body immediately began to shake and her breathing became erratic, yet her widened eyes were pinned on only one thing.

It was a hanging body in the middle of the room, completely separated from the corpses chained to the ground. This one seemed to be in a fresher condition, and it was unmoving. An odd substance seemed to still be dripping from its mouth, mixed with their blood and matching the color that ran through their veins. Its entire left arm was bent completely backwards, pointing to the stairs leading to the basement behind them.

Then the intercom inside the building flared to life once more. "Welcome to the Hunger Games, tributes. Now, let's have a little fun before the main event, shall we?"

"Sure do! I mean, if the Capitol has fun with this nonsense, why shouldn't I?" Mei's tone almost seemed to turn bitter upon the mention of the Capitol, and it continued onwards. "Especially when they give us the oh so gracious pleasure to fall in an arena instead of their poor excuse for an apocalyptic simulation, right? Like come on! Show a bit more enthusiasm, eh?" Every word had a sharp edge clinging onto it, and et she still kept up the same demeanor she held this entire time.

"You're so weird."

Mei gave a sigh, then lightened up a bit, relaxing her stance and stepping back from Minya's face. "Mission accomplished then, right?"

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"Yaaay! We're gonna be the dream team."

Dream team, huh? Like that would go well. Mar hadn't planned on teaming up with anyone, he was opposed to the idea actually, so guess he would have to figure something out.

"I think Daidsbajrwk suits you better."

He almost groaned at that comment, instead shrugging once again and making his way back to his seat while he ate his own little snacks. It was almost like she was mocking him at this point...

But hey, he had been called worse, not like it would matter in the end anyways.

"Whatever floats your boat, Maelynn..."

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"Leila. That's a nice name...?"

Her voice was getting smaller and smaller as time went on, but she still made the effort to speak. "Thanks... Yours is uh... Nice too, I guess." She muttered, still unable to look directly at him.

Well, that is, until he stuck his hand out. She looked over at it for a moment, slowly bringing her arm out to shake it.

"Pleased to...uh....meet....you?"

"Y-Yeah... Same here."

If only it was under different circumstances...

And with that, the train began to slow down as the tributes all arrived at the station designated in the Capital. What was once a crowded greeting, filled with lights, colors, noises, and all sorts of festivities, was now an almost barren wasteland amidst an equally dull city. It was nearly quiet, and there was no one in sight. If this were a cartoon, you'd see a tumbleweed or two float along on the road right in front of the newly arrived tributes.

As soon as they stepped out of their cars, some quicker than others, one of the nearby speakers on a tall post blared to life. First, the piercing screech rang through the open street before leveling out and revealing a familiar voice behind it all. It was Moon once again, with that same sickening tone.

"Welcome, tributes! I hope the train ride was sufficient enough, you've got quite the show to look forward to! Now, please make your way to the first building on the right, I have no doubt you'll be able to find your way to the main building from there."

Mei stuck her finger out at Daichön and gave him a little push, leaning forward to return the hostile glare.

"He's probably tired of all your bullcrap, honestly."

"Aww, so soon? I've hardly even done anything and you're already sick and tired of me?" Mei pouted, still glaring at the man looming over her as she crossed her arms.

Upon being asked the age old question, Mei simply shrugged and smiled, reaching her hand back to grab some more fruit as she stuffed it in her mouth. "I dunno, why not, right? We're aaaalllll gonna miraculously perish at each other's hands soon anyways, so what's the harm in having a little fun?"

She somehow said all that clearly, even with her face stuffed. Don't ask me how.

"I swear to God, no matter how delicious they are, if you throw me one more goddamn cheese cube, I will find you, in the Games, and I will kill you."

"And my buddy, Dai- Di- Daiscjolmkndfk will help me!"

"Right?"

Completely out of the blue, a seemingly hearty laugh was let out before she plucked a strawberry off a platter and leaned forward closer to Minya, placing it onto her lips as she grinned. "Don't threaten me with a good time, alright sweet cheeks?"

ignore any implication made here pls

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mar didn't even bother with listening to this girl's bullcrap, it was all just useless blabbering anyways. He simply narrowed his eyes and scoffed at any comment she tried to make.

"I swear to God, no matter how delicious they are, if you throw me one more goddamn cheese cube, I will find you, in the Games, and I will kill you."

"And my buddy, Dai- Di- Daiscjolmkndfk will help me!"

"Right?"

He simply gave a defeated sigh and shrugged, not even bothering to save himself from whatever he was getting into. "Uh huh... Sure, I guess."

"But if it's really that difficult to say my name, just call me Mar..." He muttered under his breath.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"...My name?"

Oh right. She'd been too busy crying like a baby to do any proper interaction. She wiped off the last of her tears and readjusted herself to be more upright, lightly clearing her throat as well. "Oh, right... Liela Dae-"

Daelbrook.

That name was like a ragged blade running along her tongue, it no longer held the pride and comfort it once did. It hurt to think about, hurt even more knowing she was the onl survivor in her family line. She would be the one to carry it, maintain its weight and honor, and maintain what her sister had built up.

But all that was going to waste on a sheep being hauled off to the slaughter. Even if she won, would that even be enough to make her proud?

"...Daelbrook. Liela Daelbrook. And... you?"

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mei would remember that.

Anyways, back to cheese basketball, featuring Minya. Sure, she was slightly amused at Minya's attempt to play along, but at the same time she was disappointed at the lack of a negative reaction.

Oh well, this would just have to do. Good enough, right? Still... Funny, I guess. After all the cheese was gone, she just continued to lean against the bar and pluck some of the food into her own mouth.

"....nine....out of.....eleven....."
"....world record....right?....mghnm..."

Mei let out a small laugh at that, then gave a muffled response of her own, too impatient to fully chew her food. "Mmm, 9/11... Reminds me of that one tragedy, y'know?"

Sure Mei, make a 9/11 joke, that'll go well.

She looked over at the guy Minya had directed her words too, giving him an observing glare before cocking her head to the side. "So, what's with this guy, huh? Thinks he's soooo cool by playin the quiet kid or somethin?"

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"....nine....out of.....eleven....."
"....world record....right?....mghnm..."

Mar rolled his eyes and sighed upon seeing that honestly impressive feat go down, but had a small smile tugging at his lips while doing so. Reminded him of his siblings, always goofing off whenever they could and trying to impress him while they were at it. The thought almost saddened him, remembering his family at a time like this, but he quickly brushed it away before it completely changed his mood.

"So, what's with this guy, huh? Thinks he's soooo cool by playin the quiet kid or somethin?"

And that was the straw that broke the camel's back. God she was already insufferable. His near-smile quickly turned into a very pissed off expression as he slowly got up, approaching Mei and Minya. "The hell is wrong with you is my question..." He snarled, staring her down.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"Prolly gone loopy. Out of shock, maybe. I've seen it a few times at the Reapings..."

Liela went silent for a moment before she sighed. "No... I doubt it..." She simply said, leaving it at that. There was no way that attitude was from snapping, right? Even if it was, she was probably just a toned down lunatic before all this, right?

"You sure you're okay?"

No, I'm not, how can I be? I just-

"Yeah, I'm... Fine."

"Thanks for asking, I guess..." She turned her head away and whispered that last part, as if she was slightly ashamed.

"You can like...carry on crying....if you want..."

She closed her eyes and exhaled, turning her head back to face Raiyhan but her eyes were still pinned on the ground beneath. "There's no point in doing that, honestly..." Her voice was quiet, but the sound she made afterwards almost sounded like a groan.

"If it makes you feel any better. I dunno, I- I'm not the best at like...this sorta thing. Emotions and such."

Yeah, I could tell.

Well she couldn't say that now could she? She instead stayed silent, letting her mind wander a little. Well, it was more like "spacing out", but whatever.

"I- I should stop talking."

"Not like you did anything wrong..." Liela mumbled.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mei could almost feel the middle finger being stuck up at her, and the thought made her smile. Such a shame nobody came after her though, guess they weren't gullible enough to chase after her. Would've made things a lot less boring around here though...

".....what the hell was the point of that? Tryna make enemies? Before the Games? You have a death wish, don't you? Or are you just plain crazy?"

Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. The rats made me crazy. Crazy? I was-

This line was cut short by a suspiciously shaped full-sized gourd being chucked at the writer.

Ironic how well that fit, might as well be Mei's new motto.

She gave a shrug alongside a snicker, looking down on his emo-covered form and crossing her arms. "Aww, why not? Just tryin' to have some fun around here, y'know?"

She leaned in a little closer, her tone darkening. "So what if I am? Having a few enemies never hurt, neither does being crazy..." The chilling confidence she said that with was almost enough to negate the absurdity of her saying that neither of those things had any negative impact.

She stood back up and gave a small laugh, returning Idris's ice-cold stare with one of her own, except Mei's was paired with a grin. "C'mon man, cheer up! All that edginess is gonna make you look like you went through a blender, y'know. Bet that won't help ya in the games, that's for damn sure!"

And with that, she waved a snarky goodbye before heading back to her cab, passing through almost every single other district's along the way.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mar raised an eyebrow at the odd attempt to actually play along with the weirdo's games, almost smiling at the failed attempt to catch a piece with her mouth. He instead sighed and grabbed his barely filled plate and went to sit back down, shrugging at the weirded expression Minya gave. He could honestly care less at this point and didn't exactly want to, honestly.

...But then the girl came back. Plate empty, and she seemed to be chewing the last bit of what she had left. Her jaunt was so carefree and nonchalant, like nothing had ever happened, it was almost infuriating. Mar was about to continue to ignore her until it seemed like she suddenly changed her mind and went to grab some of the food on their table. Not only was she a child in a teenager's body, but a petty thief too...

Ah, and of course she would start chucking their own cheese at Minya once again, point-blank this time.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Liela buried her head further into her knees this time, too exhausted from her outburst to do anything. She almost wanted to sob again, for different reasons this time, but her tears had been used up. She felt so bitter now, her sadness and grief washing away and leaving behind the sediments of anger and resentment. She just wanted to scream and yell, no matter how tired her small body was, no matter how much her voice was worn out, but she knew she couldn't.

Especially not at the guy trying his best to comfort her. He wouldn't have deserved her anger, she may have been a brat but she at least did things with reason.

"...that's good."

Yeah, I guess.

Her nails began to dig into the sides of her legs, the area she had been clutching ever since she wrapped herself up. She had to beg herself not to cry anymore, even if she physically couldn't.

The feeling would still be there, and it was a horrible one. "What's her deal, anyways..." She muttered.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Ugh. The silence was getting on her nerves, this train ride was already long enough. President Moon had mentioned that the cabs were open to go between, and Mei assumed all the tributes had been picked up already, so... It wouldn't hurt to do a bit of exploring, right? It was obvious her district partner didn't want to talk, given his closed off demeanor and "slightly" disgusted expression towards Mei.

Oh well, his loss, ammiright? Who wouldn't want to talk to the borderline psychopathic one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eater? Well, her little journey was about to answer that, even though the results were pretty obvious from the start. But first...

There was food, right? Man, she was starving. She got up from her chair and began to grab a plate, filling it up with everything that appealed to her while occasionally chucking some over at the male tribute, not once looking in his direction while doing so. After he had muttered an annoyed remark under his breath, Mei responded with a giggle before moving to the other cars.

Nothing significant happened until District 4's car, which was occupied with three people this time. Huh. Looked like someone had the same idea she did. Oh, and there was a little girl wailing her butt off like a baby, that too.

"Awww, does someone miss their mommy? Cheer up bucko, it would be such a shame if you died crying!" Mei snickered, chucking a slice of kiwi at both Liela and Raiyhan's face before moving on, making sure to hit the other guy in the room with a cheese cube as well.

Again, nothing significant happened other than being yelled at and called various things by her targets until she reached District 7's car, where the cab was completely silent and the tributes inside were doing nothing thus far. Well, the tiny girl seemed to be eyeing the snacks, but the male looked like he was trying to take a nap or something. How... Boring. She started by chucking a grape at Daischön, then cheese at Minya. Mei decided to throw a few more blocks at her for the hell of it, almost desperate for a reaction at this point, but she was starting to run low on snacks.

Insert joke about Mei chucking her entire plate at the invisible ghost that occupied cab 9 here.

Last but not least, cab 12, home to the infamous District 12 tributes. Honestly at this point, Mei was surprised the Capitol still brought them in. Their District was hit hardest by the plague due to the extreme poverty, and they were the District with the least success in the Games anyways. Oh well, just another pair of rats to toy with I guess. She entered the car and observed the two tributes.

Then she immediately chucked an entire orange at Idris's face, and a watermelon slice at she who must not be named. Now she was done for the day.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mar took one last glance at Minya before shutting his eyes for a nap, taking note of the apparent rage that she now held before doing so. No wonder, Moon's words set him off a little as well, he was just too lazy to act on it. As soon as the snacks were mentioned though, those small eyes seemed to jump priorities. Unfortunately, he was a bit too preoccupied with his own things to have room for being hungry, so he didn't share the same.

Before the edgy nightmare backstory could be inserted during his nap time, a small thud to his forehead woke him from his slumber. The grape fell into his lap and he simply stared at it with annoyance. He only barely caught a glimpse of the purple-haired tribute as she targeted Minya before walking out. Oh lovely... It seemed they had a class clown after all. He groaned as he got up to throw the grape away, and before he walked back he figured he might as well grab a bite while he was up.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"...hey? You alright?"

A piercing chill went through her entire body, one that inevitably led to her sobs being stopped by an immediate choke. Instead of the rushing thoughts that eroded at her mind, the presence of another tribute made it go completely blank. What a harsh snap back to reality.

But the chill had a reason for its near paralysis, it was a reminder of where she was and her circumstances. Liela couldn't even think after what had happen, didn't even consider what could be a result of her childishness. Sure, she didn't want to become the Victor and live in such a lonely world much longer, but... The least she could do was try, right? If she made herself an easy target, that would just be...

She couldn't bear to think about it anymore, she couldn't risk the sobs returning. Other tributes were around her now, everyone that would eventually perish by each other's hands. She was headed to the Capitol for heaven's sake, there were cameras pinned on her at this very moment. That crying fit only labeled her as the weakest one here, to both the entirety of Panem and the tributes, and that just meant...

She continued to hold herself in a ball, but angrily wiped away her tears and quickly hushed up her sniffling. Her eyes only gazed emptily on the ground in front of her, and no reply came out of her mouth.

It didn't matter if she was "okay" or not, it wouldn't matter in the end, at least. The Games would still continue, as would everything else. There was nothing she could do, and in the end, her tears were shed for nothing.

The pat on the back made her flinch, but it somewhat did its job at least. It calmed her down a bit, but it somehow still stung. Just old memories, itching away at the open wound.

"...just....let it out? Sometimes it's better that way."

"I'm... fine now. Thanks," She muttered bluntly, her voice rasp and quiet as a result of the endless screaming it had to endure. Her tone almost seemed... Bitter, as well. She began to close her eyes for a moment, just trying to find a moment to recollect, but it was all interrupted by a slice of kiwi hitting her head and a taunting voice that followed.

"Awww, does someone miss their mommy? Cheer up bucko, it would be such a shame if you died crying!"

In a moment, Liela's sorrows turned into anger, which spilt the last of her tears onto her knees. She balled up her fists and glared at the girl, wanting so desperately to scream at her and make her pay for what she said. Run up to her and pummel her face, refute those words and made sure she paid for dare saying that to her. She didn't have the strength to get up though, so all she could do was mutter some utterly horrifying words under her breath and give Mei a piercing stare that could rival her own.

In short, Liela would remember that.

Abryn Soelare

Ah the joys of waking up at an ungodly hour to go to work in the morning, what fun. The fact that he carelessly plopped himself down on the couch and sept there instead of, oh I don't know, the comfort of his own bed made the situation ten times worse. His back was killing him, he could hardly see a thing with the immense disorientation, and he missed his alarm.

Come on man, get it together... You haven't missed a day since you started working at that place.

So he had... 5 minutes to get his s**t together, and pray he got a quick ride there. Got it, that was... Workable. Abryn quickly got ready and headed out the door, seemingly not a care in the world about his tardiness. A cab was called and upon arrival at the agency, he simply turned his originally broken down demeanor into a more neutral and... Work-friendly one. Walked past the same people he did nearly every day, walked to his desk, sat down and waited for whatever the day had to offer. God it got boring around here sometimes. Funny how he said that considering the circumstances.

Cassidy Louvin

Cass, as opposed to many, was up almost immediately after her alarm went off and already rolling out of bed. She was in a relatively good mood, humming to herself as she got ready. With a yawn, she entered the kitchen to make herself some breakfast, only to find the stove was already going hot and a scent was starting to flow through the house. Mmm pancakes, a timeless dish that never seemed to fail. "Oh! Papa I was going to-"

"No no, it's alright Cassie, I wanted to do something special for today. Thank you for dinner last night, by the way, sorry I fell asleep so early." Her grandfather interjected, turning around with a smile as he shuffled the batter on the pan. It was always that smile, it was so contagious and Cass couldn't help but to return it. "I was runnin' late so I just made some anyways... Hope you... Like it." Cass gave a defeated laugh, then sat down at the table once the food was offered. "Thank you for breakfast! Been so long since last I've seen my son I've had your pancakes, man they're good."

With that, the two enjoyed their meal and a nice chat before Cass got up to clean before she left. Before she stepped out of the door though, she was stopped by opened arms and that sweet smile once again. "Have a good day, Cassie. You know I'm proud of you."

The hug seemed to last forever. Cass nearly cried actually, she didn't even realize how heavy her shoulders were that morning until she heard those words. "You too-" Cass whispered, being cut off by her own sobs that were being held in her throat. She let go before they could come spewing out though, waving a goodbye before heading off to the agency. Unfortunately, her strength didn't even last the walk there, she came in looking far more distant than usual but still keeping up her iconic smile. Just had a little muddy eyes, is all.

Abryn Soelare

And with a tired sigh, Abryn made his way out the exit and trudged his way home. Sure it was late, sure his home was quite a ways away from the agency, but did that really matter? Gotta get the steps in, or something like that.

After what seemed like forever, he nudged the door open and set his stuff down on a nearby table, immediately falling to the couch and closed his eyes. Ugh... What a day.

Cassidy Louvin

With a wave to Andrea, she hopped out the door with a grin and ran her way home. All she could think about was how late she was (like she wasn't late nearly every single day, anyways). She came home frantically, nearly slamming the door shut when she finally arrived and blurted out, "Hey Papa sorry I'm-"

He was already asleep, the TV still running in front of his recliner. It was a little chilly in here, was the heater not turned on? Cass quickly calmed down and grabbed a blanket for him, then made some dinner and set his portion aside so he could have leftovers tomorrow. It was quiet after she turned off the TV and dimmed the lights, but by now she was used to the loneliness. She just hoped her grandfather didn't miss seeing her too much. "'Night," Cass whispered out, walking down the hallway and into her room.

Wait, Volkov? He didn't catch that before, but wasn't that what this kid called him? Volkov... Huh. Weird.

He looked nervous.

There had to be something going on here. Kid mentioned a brother, who coincidentally shared a first name and seemingly a face.

Oh well, wasn't his place to poke and prod. Not his business unless someone made it his business. He leaned against the rail and crossed his arms as they spoke, feeling a little bad for the one struck with such disappointment.

Few years, huh?

"Alright, well-" He began to walk away, back down the stairs and towards the exit, "Good night you two, I'll be on my way."

Abryn Soelare

The man let out a painfully honest laugh at Aleksandr's bleak and pessimistic comment, finding it very much relatable. "Can ya complain, huh..." Abryn was immediately shushed by the noise as well, perking up and turning in the direction of the curses and watching as the one beside him walked back up the way they came. He decided to follow, briefly adjusting his bangs before stuffing his hands back into his pockets and stepped forward with a hesitant curiosity.

The kid that had passed them earlier was hunched over, a wave of confusion and concern came upon Abryn as he stopped at the top, not too far behind Aleksandr and Iliya.

A moment passed since the one hunched over called out Aleksandr's name, and the latter had yet to move. He seemed to freeze on the spot, only adding to Abryn's concern.

"Hey, everythin' alright?"

Abryn Soelare

Abryn was somewhat lost in thought the entire time, just going along with whatever the guy dragging him was doing. Hell, he almost didn't notice the frantic intern who almost rammed straight into the two until he heard a small chuckle from Aleksandr.

"So. How's your day?"

"Hm?"

He turned his head to face theirs, eyebrows raised as if he didn't catch what Aleksandr said. He did, of course, guess he was just caught a little off guard by the question is all. Out of the blue, completely casual, as if nothing had happened only moments before.

"Oh! Well, same old same old, y'know? Nothin' like going to work every morning, doin' the same ol' mundane task all day, having a dreaded orientation canceled by some idiotic kids picking a fight, and getting caught up in it by yet another idiot provoking a higher-up, right?" Abryn let out a small laugh before a sigh, straightening out his expression as he did so. "Eh, guess you could say it's alright. So, what about you?"

Abryn Soelare

"Is it Valentine's Day perhaps, or is today simply dedicated to pissing off one's seniority?"

"If you're not pissing off your boss, are you really doing your job right?" He jokingly retorted, a challenge rising up in his voice. Y'know, considering he was the oldest here, you'd think Abryn would have some maturity and know not to do dumb stuff like this. Sadly, his personality was that of a 90s school bully with a heart.

"Don't you have somewhere else to be, Soelare?"

He cocked his head to the side, pouring sarcasm into his demeanor before he spoke. "Let's see... Done with my job for today, I'm being told to screw off, there totally wasn't just a random gunshot a few moments ago... Ah! You mean going home, drinking my sorrows away, then come back to work tomorrow with a hangover? Man, unfortunately for you, the good stuff's all outta stock, what a shame right?"

God he was such an idiot.

Before anything else could be said, he felt his sleeve being tugged by Aleksandr with a somewhat urgent tone following suit. Alright alright fine..." He grumbled, saluting a goodbye to Michon with two fingers and a dumb grin as he left.

Abryn Soelare

...Y'know what? He didn't need to do anything. Abrn just found that sitting in the back and watching the chaos ensue was good enough. Maybe if he was in a good mood he would've actually done something but... Eh.

Well, the meeting was canceled, looked like everyone was going home. The guy felt a little bad for the kids, the horror of being expelled was a different kind of fear to say the least. But this dumbass on the other hand...

Abryn liked him, Aleksandr and Michon's exchange was funny as hell to say the least. He walked up to the former, who was just taking their pills, and gave him a pat on the shoulder, a devious grin plastered all over his face. Well, hope Narcisse was prepared to deal with yet another stupid one's comments.

"Awww, c'mon chief! Can't just set em up to a back and forth like that then finish him off with such a dumb blow, is chivalry dead to you or somethin'? Now, obviously I'm in no place to be talkin', but y'know..."

Huh. Weird, the kid just pulled a 180. Eh, whatever.

"Loosen up a bit, wouldja?"

Cassidy Louvin

"Hmm... Well yeah, I guess I wouldn't..." She said thoughtfully, for some reason. Actually most of the men she knew were either old and innocent, children, or not a problem. Let's just say she was a little innocent and had an overfilled glass of that life juice. There seemed to be a tinge of sorrow in her voice, like the ideas Andrea threw out made her look at a perspective she wasn't quite fond of seeing.

Rohypnol... Scary stuff, but hey, got the job done, right? Hm... Yeah no, Andrea totally wasn't scary. Anyways, the light immediately returned to her eyes as Andrea proposed a fair exchange. Spending more time alongside her while she was free? Getting a little sneak peak at the lab while they were at it? "Ooooh, sure! Count me in!"

"And try not to fluster and stutter. It’s cute, that’s for sure, but won’t leave a good impression on your work partners."

Cass suddenly faltered, the whimsical air that surrounded her attitude drastically dropped in a second.

Ah. Right.

Composure. Can't get too caught up in things, can't get ahead of yourself, don't get carried away, remember how to act-

Yeah, yeah she knew. Right. She may have been in a decent position at this place for some time now, but she knew that even here her personality didn't exactly clash with some very well. Yet another reminder she still had work to do.

Cass's eyes landed on Andrea's hand as she nodded in understanding, starting with a deep breath. "...Yes ma'am, I'll keep that in mind. I 'preci-"

Huh. While they were talking, people had begun to leave already. Looking out the windows, it was...

Already dark. Oh well wasn't that lovely. Cassidy checked her watch as her eyes widened. "Oh shoot the time- I need to cook dinner soon! Sorry to leave so abruptly Alia, but I'm glad we met. I'll definitely take you up on that offer though, thank you for the fun conversation!"

You Are My Sunshine

Trigger Warnings - Alcohol, self-harm, suicide, TBA
Final Word Count - TBA

Based on an idea that Serendibite requested, I wanted to write a romance-themed short story so here I am. I'm never good with romance but screw it why not lmao

They say a person sees color for the first time when their hands intertwine with their soulmate's. Children are born with a blissful innocence, allowing them to see colors in their own way. Some are lucky enough to not be bound by the red string of fate, living their life with no need to find a soulmate that doesn't exist. Many could go their entire life colorblind, believing it all to be an illusion or hoax, or simply gave up on the fantasy of finding the one.

My world fell into a grey abyss almost two years ago. The glass in my hand has been my only friend since, the only color left in this world. A faint yellow tint in a small glass, occasionally a hazy red, is all I see, and even then it has faded away. Two years ago, I came home from an eventful shopping trip, a light still shone in my young eyes. Two years ago, I came home to find the walls splattered a dark grey with my husband laying motionless in the corner of the dull, lifeless living room. For the first time in forever, I saw a world without color, and the man I once loved laid in the center of it all. Fate's sharp and cruel blades had snapped the string that day, and I have been a husk ever since. A husk who had read those monochrome letters on a gradually dampening paper, not even a foot away from his corpse. It was a suicide note, a note written with guilt and pain embedded in every stroke, but the most painful of all were the words written out at the bottom.

"A world with color only highlighted the blood it was tainted with. Even with a vision, all I saw was pain, and for that I am so sorry.

If only I could've loved you more, Dalli."

They say that once your soulmate dies, you only exist to entertain fate's cruel game, living life as you once did before. Only the naive still chase after the color they bathed in not too long ago, desperately clawing at any crumb they were given. Only the naive believe that there is still a red string dangling for them, another soulmate they can chase after to fulfill their life once more.

Those that have given up on chasing would have mostly turned to alcohol or other substances, giving them a brief and twisted window into the world everyone around them saw for even just a moment. There are many who can't bear to live in such a dull world any longer, resorting to one final hope that they'll see once again in the afterlife.

In these two years, I have yet to become as desperate as my husband. I have become much more cynical and negative though, the blood-tainted world that he had written about was slowly bleeding into my mind the more I lived without the rose-colored glasses. The soulmate based society laid its foundation on jealousy and desperation, far too many took advantage of the blind and took their anger out on those who could see. I don't know why I still decide to live in such a world, no hope of ever living the same again and drowning my sorrows with alcohol, but I do.

"Thanks for the night, Trace." My voice echoed dully across the bar countertop, followed by the light tap of my foot as I hopped off the stool and wobbled to the door. I, as usual, was the last person here for the night, staying while the bartender cleaned up as some sort of entertainment for him. I didn't mind, even drunk it was nice having conversation with someone you knew. "Careful heading home, alright?" He called back, over the faint ring of the bell over the door as I pulled it open. I left with a small wave and a "mhm" under my breath, letting the door swing closed as I groggily put one foot in front of the other and headed home.

I flicked my wrist upwards, checking my watch

Each time you speak of her name, it invokes an eldritch rage from the very pits of hell. Another kernel is popped, another dust bunny is haunted by her unresting soul. Take caution in the names you speak, for the dead can still hear the call.

And she just wants a nap, stfu about her

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Solaro. Solaro did it, huh? He glared back at the bear and scoffed, finding this all to be some deranged s**tf**kery. God, can't catch a break, huh?

Solaro wasn't denying it either.

She was getting defensive.

And then there was this goddamn incentive. Someone needed to die, someone needed to be the killer, or the consequences would ruin them all. As little as he cared about this whole thing, based on the bear's track record...

Well he didn't want to find out what would happen.

But that meant two more would fall victim to this game.

Then the bear spoke once more. Looks like it hit a nerve in Miyako, but Akari couldn't be bothered to pay attention. He didn't know what the hell was going on, and he certainly wanted no part in it.

"Headmaster, if it turned out someone killed themselves, would it... count? Just... hypothetically."

Hypothetically? Hypothetically?

He knew damn well what Lucian was talking about. The hell was he thinking? Right after the s**t he pulled yesterday too? Jesus Lucian, we get that you're an edgy mfer but seriously?

"Lucian, no." Akari's voice was stern, and he turned to look directly at him.

iz dat vedduy phazbur, iz dat boff vedduy phazburs

also stop tryin to be edgy akari, you're not that guy

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

They looked startled. S**t...

The hell was he thinking? Acting out of nowhere? Out of some sort of denial, or anger? This wasn't the first time he'd seen a body, this wasn't the first time this even happened at the school. He had no hope to begin with, he knew how this game was going to end. He shouldn't be doing this.

Sawyer didn't even do anything.

You shouldn't care about a little blood, Akari. A measly corpse shouldn't mean anything to you. Death knocks at the door once again, it'll always be following in your footsteps. Did you really think things would be different here? Did you really think there was some chance this could end? That little optimist sure is rubbing off on you, hm? Did you really believe that blatant lie that nobody else would get hurt? That you could be a better person? That you could help instead of hurt?

Grow up, Akari.

He backed off. He took a step back, distancing himself from Sawyer as best as he could. He couldn't trust himself. What if that one s***ty move alone did something? What if he was a little more aggressive than he thought?

"S-sorry, I didn't-... I didn't mean to-"

Sleeping. Sawyer thought Akora was sleeping. That bold delusion was something Akari could only wish he had.

"She... Is she a veterinarian, Akari?"

He sat in silence for a bit, looking back at the bloodied corpse. He couldn't look at Sawyer right now. Not right now.

"...Was."

That was all he could say. He couldn't explain it to them, not like it mattered. They were too far gone in the illusion, and he would feel guilty for trying to rip them out of it. It already backfired in the past, he wasn't going to try again. There was a thin line Akari was walking right now, a thin layer of restraint that was already tearing at the seams. That damn bear wasn't helping in the slightest.

"Puhuhu~ how delightfully despairful! Mere hours before the prom, the first body is discovered! What a tragedy! How terrible for you all!"

Anger boiled in him, but he did nothing to act on it. How insufferable. How could that bear get any worse. What an absolute mockery.

But aren't you the same?

You laughed seeing her body.

But I was-

You still laughed.

You relished in the thought. Believed you were finally free.

You only regretted it when she became your very nightmares.

The words repeated in his head, that annoying tone of the robotic bear etched into his memory. The words... The words...

"The first body is discovered"

The first body?

Is there another?

"Well done! The killer has truly outdone themself. This murder is practically unsolveable! Clean cut, a nice alibi, and a thousand people to frame! I applaud them, truly! What an excellent performance on their part."

Oh god.

He couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge the existence of the horrors in front of his eyes. Only the words rang in his head.

"Behold! Murder number three! The tragedy of a double murder, two bodies laid across the other! How delightfully despairful!"

...Two? No way... It was only Akora though, right? The only people not in the cafeteria right now were Darcy, Kubo, Saeko, and Idris, were they... Were they all safe? Was Monokuma just pulling s**t out his ass?

Setsuna seemed to notice it too. Only one body. The hell was the bear talking about? Talking as though a specific schedule had to be followed, the hell?

"Can you shut up already?" He directed towards the bear, a slight growl in his voice but it was masked by the shakiness. He had his fists balled up inside of his coat pockets, and he would've definitely thrown hands if he wasn't so intimidated by such perfect form.
