She shivers, the shadows of the corner make her colder than she would like, yet she doesn't exactly wish to be seen by other people. She sighs as she moves from the shadowed corner to take a seat on the couch by the fire. She wishes she had the courage, wishes she could speak without stuttering and embarrassing herself. Yet, she remains lonely in this crowded place. Even so much as the thought of someone saying hello to her makes her jump. I think I'm cursed or something, even the others who seemed shy have found someone to talk to. She looks around watching other people interact before adjusting the wolf mask that sits upon her pale complexion and smoothing out the pleats on her emerald dress.

The corner she hides in provides safety and comfort as she calms her nerves. When she opens her eyes again, she can see that some guests have started conversing with others that they had not originally talked to when they entered the masquerade. She can also feel that the tension has eased since the beginning of the event. But still, she prefers to find comfort in the shadows than try striking up a conversation with a stranger who may not be interested in her at all. She presses herself closer to the wall until she is almost invisible.

She watches curiously from the fireplace as people begin to gather around somebody to ask for wine. She notices how only her and a few others cling to the walls instead of following the crowd. Must be good if that many people are asking for it... She shakes away her thoughts, perfectly content with just observing rather than indulging herself. I'm not exactly like them, they might notice if I get too close. She slowly backs away into a shadowy corner to avoid the people pushing past her.

She fidgets with her hands as her boredom grows and the laughter echoing from inside continues. Should I go in? I mean...I was invited, but it will be so awkward knowing nobody. Actually, most people don't know anybody because of the masks. They would only know as much as you tell them. Argh, but I get so nervous that I go mute... She looks over at the open doors, so inviting with the warm laughter filling the air.
A gust of wind blows across her bare shoulders and she has made her decision. I'm going in, I can't stay shivering in the cold outside forever. She stands up and smooths out her dress and adjusts the silvery canine mask she wears before walking over to the doors and stepping inside.
It's so much warmer in here... She makes her way through the couples and nobles chattering amongst themselves, standing by the fire she finally feels less cold. She watches as the others take delicate sips from the wine glasses in their hands, with swirling red liquid inside. Her nose twitches and she faintly recognizes the smell, but she can't quite put her finger on it. Oh well, just try to have a little fun while you're here.

She watches from the safety of the garden bench as many people dressed in elegant and elaborate costumes walk up to the doors and go in. A few caught her eye: a white rabbit and a black swan, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything or even take one step farther from where she sat. "Why am I like this?" she sighs, "Why can't I just be normal like everyone else and go in and talk to people?" She knew though that most people weren't here to make friends and she would probably be left alone for the entire night. Propping her face on her palm, she watches as a plump mouse scurries from beneath the bench. A small smile plays at her lips as the rodent darts from flower to flower, searching for scraps.
