If you can shapeshift and you get injured, couldn't just shapeshift into someone that isn't injured? or an earlier version of yourself that is unharmed?

I remember i one time had a random thought come to me one night after watching some undertale videos and the thought was "what if gaster was a human who injected himself with monster magic and sans and papyrus are his 1st test subjects/coworkers/employees because human souls are super strong and so are sans and papyrus, and also gaster instead of accidently falling into his machine by slippin on some banana peel he saw his work like a drug addict would see drugs and dove head first into his work which resulted in shattering into a bunch of lego bricks breaking apart... but on purpose?
