Okay so here's a quick history lesson. Valentine's Day is a day that was once used to celebrate Saint Valentine of Rome, which is how it got its name. In Latin, however, it is Saintus Valentinus which then translates to Saint Valentine but there is something special about the name Valentinus.
Valentinus comes from the latin word valere which is goodbye, but its literal translation is 'be powerful and healthy'. So with that in mind we can assume that Valentinus, and Valentine by association, means to be powerful and healthy... instead we made it romantic
