For any of the playerbase that doesn't know, in order to unlock these legendaries in the ancient cave, you need a dark stone for zekrom (and I assume a light stone for resisham?).

When you take them to the cave, it takes the stone and then gives you two options between Truth and Ideals. I thought it was just a quest path option or something so I clicked one basically at random, but it just booted me out. I genuinely thought it was a GLITCH and emailed the mod team it was that confusing. I know now that's not how it works, that there is a wrong option that boots you out while taking your item, but there is nothing in the quest that makes that clear.

My suggestions are going to be based on the assumption of what the purpose of having this choice and questline were supposed to do in the first place: Reward players who understand what is being referenced by the question, while letting players who got it wrong know they got it wrong so they can maybe understand the reference too. Remember, this isn't really rewarding an elite club who played black and white, it's punishing people who didn't google something.

1. Lockout timer if you get it wrong (instead of taking the item). This is pretty simple, it lets a player know they got it wrong without locking them out of doing the quest entirely. It could even come with a message with a link to black/white story lore or something, making it a fun learning moment for those who are interested(Instead of looking like an bug that stole your item).

2. Make it clear the choice matters. If your goal really is to punish people who get it wrong as harshly as possible, the least you can do is make it more obvious there is going to be a consequence to getting it wrong so people can google accordingly or whatever.

One thing I really would like people to consider when thinking about these suggestions as well is to not have a mentality of "I had to deal with it, so others should too". Even if I was never recompensated my dark stone, I would be happier knowing no player in the future has to ever deal with the situation I went through.

Personally I think the whole issue is fixed if the item only gets used when you get the right answer.
But even after doing some research, I also believe that with some knowledge of Reshiram and Zekrom you should be able to answer correctly when given the first question. (Sorry if that was giving away too much, I tried to put it in a way that wouldn't spoiler it.)

I don't know, I think this is just a really fun thematic little option.
I like how in order to start the quest you need to actually align with Zekrom and Reshiram.
I do kinda agree that there is no need for it to consume the item too considering how rare it is. I think it should just put you on a timer after a cutscene that's like "Somehow you managed to end back outside, your dark/white stone seems to have lost it's colour too. Maybe you should try again later"

in my opinion, and as what some people said before, you do need a bit of background knowledge about reshiram and zekrom. I for one wouldn’t assume that the two options are randomly chosen words; they must have some relevance to the two pokémon. Google and other search engines exist for a reason and they will always give you some kind of source to whatever you search, so even searching for answers online before selecting your option is a more simpler and safer way to do the quests.

Putting a story (or anything like that) about reshiram and zekrom is just adding stuff and not really improving the thing. It’ll make it a bit too easy for players to do the quest. Maybe just the lockout time part would be enough. I’d say 24 hours would be sufficient.
(i dunno, maybe people will disagree, but honestly even without knowledge about the pokémon you just need to use a bit of logic. How do i say this… Just read the titles of the two pokémon’s quests, and ask yourself “does light or darkness correspond more to truth/ideals?” and just go with your gut with what vibe it gives.)
