but i'll try to keep the lore consistent. ]

Over forty years ago, the townspeople of the village recorded a series of mysterious disappearances, individuals lost among the shadowy boughs of the neighboring woods. Sometimes, the people disappeared in pairs, groups, or even individuals. There was no rhyme or reason to who went missing, no particular age, gender, or profession. Even children were known to disappear. All the townspeople know is that once a person set foot in the woods, they were never heard from again. Slain bodies are buried deep within the earth, leaving the forlorn spirits to wander the woods alone. Nobody noticed the increasing number of names carved upon the bark of a withered birch, the names of the dead.
