As someone who personally struggles with gambling-related mechanics, (mystery boxes, claw machines, and roughly four of the game center games) I believe there should be one main option that completely excludes you from seeing things that rely on heavy gambling (except for the Game Center). I believe there could also be a second option to ban yourself from the game center.

It should look something like this:

With the first box checked, for example, if you head over to the black friday deal, you won't see the Black Friday Box option anymore:

This is beneficial because it prevents people with impulsive behavior to 'waste' all of their pd and/or their nuggets just on a slight chance for something great. If they can't even see the deal, then they (most likely) aren't able to be tempted by it.

This option could also prevent the player from opening mystery boxes/viewing mystery boxes/keys in the item market, but there could be a third setting option for that as well. (To be fair, I'm not sure how hard that would be to code in)

Now, here's my reasoning for the second option: gambling addicts are able to go to casinos to ask to be banned. Seeing as people are able to do that, it should be the same for the Game Center. My idea on making this work is that instead of a permanent ban, you can be temporarily banned (multiple options to select: the minimum being a month, maximum being six months maybe?) and once the duration ends, you're able to be unbanned by him and play again. When you try entering the Game Center while temporarily banned from it, he can tell you how many days/months are left until you're allowed back in. This will let players continue to gain GGC from interacting, it just prevents them from spending it if they're struggling to save it up.*

* an option could instead be added to limit yourself on how much GC/GGC you're allowed to spend per reset, but as I personally know, this option would be disregarded/the limit would be set incredibly high by people who impulsively spend who are tired of the limits, thus making it redundant and in effect, unhelpful and useless to those with gambling issues! the only true way to deal with this would be via banning yourself at the game center, which, even if it won't stop everyone with issues, it will help a majority as proven by real life situations involving gambling!

thus, my alternative proposition is:

* during the advent calendar, on game center related tasks, you're able to access the game center, but ONLY the game needed. (ex, only being able to access HOL for the day, etc). after reset, unless there is another game center related task, your temp ban would be re-enabled and you'd be unable to access game center again until the next task appears or until you decide to unban yourself.

For the Game Center, it could look something like this when you try to go there:

Or, when unbanned:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What about the hourly tasks/magearna raffle/participating in the coinflip rally?

This shouldn't be something we need to worry about if we're already impulsively spending all of our gamechips on other things! People who are prone to gambling related mechanics in games and on sites aren't going to prioritize stuff like the hourly tasks or the raffle if they're spending everything on the treasure chest game or the lottery, for example. It's perfectly fine if you're wanting to participate in those things and don't have issues with gambling, this is for people who very heavily struggle with those aspects on sites and need to be able to prevent themselves from spending all their real or virtual currency! :)

I'm open to making changes to my suggestion based on feedback :)

as someone whose literal job once was checking people's ids to see if they're banned from gambling before letting them into a gambling hall (and who thus had to do a course/workshop/seminar on addiction and gambling): please implement this!
real-world gambling allows you to ban yourself from gambling, and so should this site's (any site's, really) gambly games.
this is so important

Should it be a timed thing or a check/un-check whenever you want thing? What happens if someone doesn't understand the setting and accidentally bans themselves from a game feature for 1-6 months (however long it is)?

i'd say timed otherwise you can just give in to impulses anyways, you'd just have to uncheck one box more to do stuff
that's how it works in the real world too, you're just banned for however long you (or someone on your behalf) said you should be banned, no take-backsies

as for accidentally checking the box i mean tough luck? maybe a pop-up window saying something like 'this will ban you from the game center for (time). are you sure you want this?' so you can't click it accidentally and if someone still accidentally clicked it it's not that horrible or game-breaking to be banned from the game center for a bit

that's just my opinion tho

@SilverShinyCharizard
yeah!! i feel that there should be at least some countermeasures in place which is why i made this suggestion :) i think its important to be able to have those implemented restrictions when you have no self control over it/for those that dont otherwise it may end up driving that audience away because of their inability to save up to make progress

@XYZ
id want there to be multiple options to select for a temporary ban (which is why i said the lowest possible time could be a one month temp ban). it would be beneficial for there to be a warning or notice beforehand so people know what theyre doing. unfortunately, if they had the option to unban themselves at any given moment with no repercussions to it then it would make the problem worse since it wouldnt actually be restraining them.

The first check box seems reasonable and i also burned nuggets on black friday box xD However for the second one i'll have to disagree for a few reasons.
1. dream point tasks
2. magearna raffle
3. coin flip rally

and generally, you might want to unban yourself later when you need to do something, so this feature could cause trouble

bumping this because even though it may not seem like significant things and not everyone has virtual/real life gambling addictions it is very crucial that there's some way for people who do or are affected or just have lots of trouble saving up have some way of forcefully limiting themselves for the sakes of their wallets. even goatlings has a self ban option (for the entire account) in the settings just because they have an arcade area with gambling options, so I think it's important that pokeheroes does have something in place too for the people that really need it.

i think this is a VERY good idea, and would show a great deal of goodwill towards those with addictive tendencies. anyone can get a little too carried away, and the options are neither mandatory nor on by default. it would be a refreshing change of pace from a lot of the more, ah, predatory online games. my only concern is that the mods may not want to add it due to it potentially being read as an "admission" to gambling, even though it's not really all that different to the classic pokemon games we all know and love. i think that bans should be paused during things such as the fun fair, with an option to re enable it prior to the end of the fair if one realizes they just can't beat their luck without knowing when to "fold them", as it were. i know that the black friday sale boxes are probably a nice source of income to beef up server maintenance prior to the winter season, but there is indeed a bit of a problem with regards to the temptation to spend disproportionately on the lootboxes. i think mystery boxes and keys having a separate option is good, as well as truly time-gated events in the game corner being potentially excluded from the ban (such as the wheel of fortune, which has a 6 hour cooldown that can not be sped up by nuggets as far as i am aware). this is a chance to really show the community that the health of the players should be valued by themselves and others. full support for this joining the options.

I support this idea! I feel like there should be an option to ban yourself and/or a limit to how much you can spend in the game center over a certain period.

Example: can only spend (X) amount of GC a day/can only spend (X) PD a week to buy GC/can only spend (X) nuggets in the GC a month.

This is great, the choice to get banned but not in a way that makes your whole life turn to a shriveled chip under the couch.

Quote i also hope that no hoopa rings are hidden there

i mean they're not hidden in the premium settings for users that don't have premium or on the shadow radar page for users that don't have the shadow radar yet (at least as far as i'm aware), so there might be a way to make them not show up in the game center for someone who's banned from it

I like this suggestion, I feel that even though most users cannot legally gamble for real, there may be some adults with issues that would benefit from being restrained. maybe this idea could also be tweaked to be a parental control thing, because children can be subjected to becoming addicted to gamble just as much or even more than adults. There's a reason why lootcrates in games are becoming so scrutinized for essentially promoting gambling to their users, where this isn't an exact parallel, having the option for a parent being able to lock out their child from gambling on the game center or black friday crates. this could possibly even save the staff from being potentially sued.
