Chapter 1: Memories of the past.
13 years ago near Twinleaf town in a small forest, a young blonde boy full of energy and his two raven-haired friends were exploring the old, withered hidden path they had just found.
“Look! Look! I found something! We could be like- We could be archaeologists in the future!” The blonde boy shouted in excitement. The raven-haired boy shook his head “I don’t think it’s good to touch things that don’t belong to you, Barry” he said to the perky boy. “It’ll be fine, Lucas!” Barry retorted whilst rolling his eyes but, as soon as he said that and touched an ancient, rusted metal sphere of some kind, a swirling portal of purple and dark blue opened and a long black arm kidnapped Barry away from his world.
“Barry!” The raven-headed duo cried out, Lucas was paralysed with fear. “I’ll go and get some help!” The girl of the group said with as much confidence as she could muster and ran as fast as she could, but what the others didn’t know was that she was afraid, terrified even to face the black, gold and crimson monster that ruled the other world.
As Barry entered the strange world on the other side, he could see a gigantic beast of black, red and gold looking… Somehow worried for him? “Are you alright, young one?” The pokemon spoke to him telepathically as he scrutinised every detail, from the legs of grey encased in gold to wings as black as night that had small crimson spikes on them. Barry stayed silent in awe but eventually spoke up. “I’m alright, Mr. beast but… I want to get back to my friends, can you help me?” Barry said to the massive pokemon. “Alas, I cannot help you get back to your companions… I must retrieve my former strength, sealed away by Arceus. Although I feel weak, my power will eventually grow… Young one, take this pendant that is imbued with the griseous crystal. It will help you survive in this barren and lonely world.” Giratina lifted a leg and formed a silver necklace with a yellow gem in the middle.
Years passed as Dawn and Lucas looked for a way to recover Barry from the strange portal, working with the professor of Sandgem town, Rowan and Barry was oblivious to it all.. Sure, Giratina told him that time worked differently and gave him new clothes but he kept wondering about the town he grew up in.. will it still be the same? He wondered as he fiddled with his new faded green scarf and the brown buttons on his dark red cardigan that was partly obscuring his grey t-shirt.

It was a peaceful day in Twinleaf town. It has been years since Barry was taken to the other universe by Giratina. Dawn and Lucas both were traumatised by the incident that happened long ago.
Giratina had recovered some of his strength and made a black mirror encrusted with yellow gems that was given to Barry. “Use this to call upon me in the other world, child.” Giratina said to the blonde boy as he clutched his hand around it.
The peacefulness of Twinleaf town faded, as a portal appeared, with Barry stepping out of it with the small mirror in hand and many thoughts were swirling through his head. He didn't remember a single thing about Twinleaf town, let alone anything about his friends or the residents that lived there. The portal disappeared as the confused boy looked around and saw that many trees surrounded the small area he was in and behind him was old, faded and broken ruins. Several residents, including Dawn and Lucas, rushed over to the source of the strange sound of the portal, concerned something bad was happening. The two friends were shocked as they recognised the person who came out of the portal. It was none other than their long lost friend, Barry. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to recognize them. Barry was.. Confused to say the least about all of the people surrounding him. “Who are you?” Barry said to the many people crowding him. “Where am I?” He asked whilst looking around the small town.
Dawn and Lucas were surprised that Barry didn't recognize them. They did not know that he’d forgotten all of previous memories of them, Twinleaf town and what happened a long time ago.
“Don't you recognize us, Barry?” Dawn said in a sad tone. Barry shook his head. “Maybe you lost your memory? That’s the most likely scenario…” said Lucas, deep in thought. “Maybe you're right.” Dawn agreed with her raven-haired friend. “But how do we get his memories back?” Dawn questioned. “Maybe professor Rowan would know!” Lucas said. They took Barry to professor Rowan’s lab in Sandgem town to see if he knew how to get Barry’s memories back. Whilst they were on the small trek to the lab, they saw a wild Starly. Lucas took this opportunity to explain Pokémon catching to Barry.
“Do you know of Pokéballs? They’re small, ball-shaped devices that let you capture Pokémon, like this Starly here.” He said as he got a luxury ball and threw it at the bird Pokémon. “But why would you need to capture them? Couldn’t you just ask them to join your team?” Questioned Barry as Lucas picked up the luxury ball that housed the recently caught Pokémon. “Well, we don’t really understand pokemon that much yet, Barry. So we can’t just ask them to join our teams” Lucas said with a small chuckle. “Oh, well.. I understand Giratina just fine.” Barry nonchalantly said as he held up the mirror. Dawn and Lucas were shocked by the odd mirror. “Where did you get that?!” Dawn yelped. “Giratina?! Isn’t that the legendary Pokémon of Antimatter?!” Lucas said in surprise, he didn’t know Barry encountered Giratina!
“Huh? Oh, yeah I became friends with Giratina, he’s the one who gave me my new clothes and the mirror, he practically raised me while I was in the Distortion realm!” Barry said cheerfully whilst the two other teenagers were speechless.
“Should we tell him that uh.. this isn’t normal?” Dawn asked in a whisper to Lucas. “No, not yet.” Lucas replied just as quietly. “Huh? What are you two talking about?” Barry asked the two and they quickly replied “Nothing!” Dawn and Lucas said at the same time as Barry shrugged it off. “You should have this, it can be your first Pokémon partner!” Lucas said as he handed Barry the luxury ball belonging to the Starly that he caught and the trio reached Sandgem town.

Dawn knocked on the door of the Sandgem town lab and it opened. “Ah, Dawn and Lucas! A pleasure to see you.” Rowan said with a smile. “Ah, and who’s this?” He asked about Barry. “Professor, this is our friend Barry we talked about that was taken away from us many years ago. The problem is, he’s lost his memories and barely remembers anything.” Lucas responded as the trio walked into the lab. “Hm, well does he at least have a starter pokemon?” Rowan asked Lucas. “No, professor. He doesn’t.” The latter replied with a sigh. “Hm. Well, choose wisely, Barry.” Rowan said as Barry approached the table that had pokeballs on it. “I choose this one!” He said, proudly holding the pokeball. “Good choice, young lad! That Pokémon there is Piplup, quite the temperamental one!” Rowan gave a hearty laugh. “Thanks professor!” Barry smiled and waved as the trio exited the lab. “I’ll try and see if I can get anything on your situation!” The professor called out to them.
“Say, do you want to try the gym challenge?” Lucas asked Dawn. “Yeah, but I was more gearing towards contests” she said with a chuckle. “How about you, Barry?” Dawn asked. “Huh? Me? Well… Maybe I can do both!” Barry exclaimed as his two other friends chuckled. “Hey, what’s over there?” Barry said, pointing to a boulder that was close to them. “Ah, that’s the path to Jubilife city but it’s blocked with a boulder so we can’t pass.” Lucas said with a sigh. Barry, however was focusing on something else. A small light blue sphere gradually formed in his hand, he threw it and it destroyed the boulder with little rock chunks flying everywhere. Lucas and Dawn watched in astonishment as Barry whistled. “Now that’s what I call an aura sphere!” He said with a grin on his face. “How did you do that?! Barry, people aren’t supposed to have Pokémon moves! Where did you learn to do that?!” Lucas cried suddenly. “Giratina” Barry simply said with a chuckle.
The group continued on to the path towards Jubilife city, route 202 with their pokemon 4 following them outside of their pokeballs. “Y’know.. I really wish we could learn Pokémon moves.” Dawn sighed whimsically as she thought out loud. Suddenly, the group heard a Pokémon cry out for help. Dawn immediately ran over to the sound with the others following behind. The Pokémon that cried for help was a Shinx that was being attacked by feral Zigzagoons. Dawn’s Turtwig rocketed forward and his trainer called for him to use Razor leaf. The many leaves that were formed by magic launched at the attackers and saved the Shinx. “Great work, Turtwig!” Dawn cheered her pokemon partner on. The small Pokémon that was saved slowly walked up to her as the others caught up. The Shinx nuzzled her hand and tapped the centre of the pokeball she held in her other hand with its nose. Dawn chuckled as the pokemon became absorbed into the pokeball and a click was heard. Shinx was now her newest teammate.
They had all safely made it to Jubilife city, but little did they know there was something bad that was going to happen on the horizon.

Barry looked around Jubilife city in awe. There were flashy ads for potions, pokeballs and other useful items. Lucas noticed that up ahead was Professor Rowan and a strange man dressed in grey and white was attacking him and trying to grab for his briefcase.
Barry was one step ahead though as he had an aura of shadow around him and somehow managed to get behind the strange man. Barry once again focused, although Lucas noted that the necklace seemed to glow as Barry’s arm was encased in a neon purple aura and his eyes briefly flashed a dark purple. Barry actually slashed the man from behind, leaving claw marks that were a bright purple on the man’s back! The strangely dressed man hurriedly ran away in shock. Lucas and Dawn ran towards the two as Barry held a hand to his head when the strange neon purple aura around his arm faded. “Ooh, I shouldn't have done that.. Great, now I have a headache..” He moaned as Rowan approached him. “Barry, I appreciate your help but not all things can be solved with physical violence and magical powers.” The professor sighed “But still, thank you for your help.” He smiled at Barry.
“Are you two alright? What even was that attack?!” Dawn said worriedly as she checked for any wounds on the professor and her blonde friend. “I’m alright, I just have a headache, as for the attack. It was taught to me by Giratina and it’s called Dragon claw.” Barry said, panting as Lucas sighed. “You really should stop being reckless, you know. It could get you in serious danger one day.” Lucas said as he adjusted his red hat. “At least he saved the professor!” Dawn argued. Lucas sighed. “I suppose without his quick thinking, the professor would still be being chased by that strange man. Who was that person anyways?” He said, thinking about the strange man. “They’re called Team Galactic and they’re a criminal organisation that steals pokemon for the purpose of harvesting the energy made by evolution. They blabber about remaking the world, whatever that means. I still don’t know their motives for doing so but I’m surprised you haven’t heard of them.” Rowan commented. Dawn started to speak but she stopped herself. “Well, anyways I have to get going since I have to drop this briefcase off at my lab, goodbye for now.” The professor said, walking away with a brisk pace. “The professor really doesn’t have to be that formal, honestly..” Lucas commented as he watched the old man walk away.

“So.. should we go shopping to kill some time? I can sign us into a hotel.” Dawn said while the trio was walking down a street that was filled with shops in Jubilife city. Before they could reach a hotel, a man walked up to them holding some kind of device that was like a watch. “Get a free Pokétch by answering a quiz, only for a limited time!” The man proudly exclaimed, however the trio were confused. “Uh, what’s a Pokétch?” Barry replied. “Why it’s my newest invention of course! The Pokétch is the ideal device that comes with 4 apps installed, those being a calculator, a pedometer, a digital clock and a Pokémon list!” The man smiled “We have colours in pink, blue and yellow.” The man continued on. “How do we get these watches?” Dawn replied. “Well, you have to answer 3 trivia questions in a row that are asked by this clown here!” The man motioned to the yellow-clad clown next to him who waved at the trio. “Gyahh!! When did he get here?!” Barry exclaimed, jumping back in alarm.
“Heh, I am known to be the sneakiest out of my other 2 siblings, anyways, no time for dilly-dallying, time for the questions!” The clown said with a smile on his face, although it was so wide, it was partially covered by his red nose. “Alright: number 1! How many types of Pokemon are there?” Barry instantly answered. “18! That’s basic knowledge that Giratina taught me!” He quickly and confidently said. “Quite enthusiastic, eh? Anyways, correct!” The clown chuckled. “Number 2! Just like Pokémon, do the moves of Pokémon also have types?” The clown asked the trio. “Yep, they do!” Dawn replied. “Correct!” The clown said. “Number 3! Can a Pokémon hold an item?” The clown questioned them. “Yes!” Lucas spoke. “Corrrect!!” The clown said with a hint of excitement. “You have cleared the Pokétch quiz, here are your Pokétches!” The brown haired man said happily as he gave pink, dark blue and yellow plated Pokétches to Dawn, Lucas and Barry respectively. “Thank you!” Dawn said respectfully to the two men as they wandered off to somewhere else in the big city.
Barry was fiddling with his Pokétch as they were walking down the bustling street. “How do you work these things?!” He said in frustration with a small groan, luckily Lucas had already put on his dark blue Pokétch and offered some help to the blonde member of the teenage trio. “Barry, you put it on like this.” Lucas draped the watch horizontally over the other boy’s arm and tied the two rubbery, white ends of the watch-like object together. “Ah, thanks.” Barry said in embarrassment to Lucas as Dawn pointed out a hotel they could go to that had some vacant hotel rooms and the trio setted off to the small hotel.

Meanwhile, in an unknown dimension…
A figure woke up to find themself in Giratina’s realm. “Where… am I?” It asked. A shiny Giratina appeared in front of them. “Eclipse... you are in my realm… I grant you the power of mine, however, I will have to take control of your body for a bit.” Giratina said to the figure. “What?! AAAAAAAAAH!!!” The figure yelled, as Giratina took control of their body. “Heh heh heh…” Eclipse said, now possessed by the shiny Giratina, the god of the Distortion world.
As the trio of Pokémon trainers settled down, suddenly a shadowy, purple portal appeared. One that appeared similar to Barry’s portal that he arrived in a few days ago back at Twinleaf town. “Ooh, look!” Dawn said, pointing to the portal. “Should we go through it?” Barry asked. “I don't know…” Lucas said, unsure. But Barry ran immediately towards the portal and stopped to look into it. Lucas and Dawn followed to catch up to him. “Barry, you should be careful. You don’t know what might hap-” Lucas said, but then Barry tripped and fell into the portal. Dawn and Lucas went in after him. Barry landed first, then Dawn and finally Lucas. They all landed on top of eachother.
They seemed to land in a different… universe? “Ow..” Barry said as he struggled to get out of the bottom of the Pokémon trainer pile that the three humans were squished in. Something nearby yelped seeing the three, not knowing who they were. “Where… are we?” Dawn said. Lucas got up, and so did Dawn. Then Barry stood up. A black-colored Pokémon, a strange man dressed in black and a pink and blue colored pokemon looked at them, confused. “Who are you?” Barry said. “I’m Darkrai. That’s Cresselia, and that’s Ingo.” Darkrai pointed to Cresselia and Ingo when mentioning their names. “Well nice to meet you! I'm Barry!” Barry said enthusiastically. “I’m Dawn!” Dawn said, adjusting her beanie. “I’m Lucas.” Lucas said with a smile.
Suddenly, laughter could be heard, sending shivers down all of the humans and Pokémon’s spines. They all looked around for the source. “Hah hah hah…” Another portal opened, revealing an odd figure. The figure had Zorua-like ears, but their face was hidden by a mask with a fox-like pattern on it, much like that of a white Zoroark. They also had a tail that was much like a Zorua’s as well. The figure laughed once more, as everyone's attention was focused on them. “Who are you?!” Darkrai shouted at the Zorua-like figure. “I’m Eclipse, and I already know your names. Now, this looks like a fine place to take over, doesn’t it?” Eclipse said with a sly tone. Barry got ready to call out Giratina, his fingers on the mirror’s handle. He whipped it out of its place in his belt and held it up high. “Giratina! Come to me!” However, when he attempted to summon Giratina, the mirror wouldn’t work. Darkrai looked over at him, confused. Eclipse laughed and launched a Dark pulse on all of them. “LOOK OUT!” Darkrai yelled, protecting Cresselia and Ingo. Barry quickly saw the Dark pulse headed to his friends and tried to absorb the Dark pulse with a Shadow ball, accidentally dropping the mirror in the process. Eclipse wasted no time, grabbing the mirror. “Heh…” He laughed. Darkrai charged at him with a Shadow claw, which caused him to be thrown off guard and drop the mirror. Cresselia flew over to catch the mirror and gave it back to Barry. Ingo sent out his Eevee, which Darkrai saw him do, and flew over to him. “Use the leaf stone!” Darkrai called out to him. Ingo did just that as the blinding light of evolution started and Eevee changed shape into.. Leafeon! Eclipse scoffed and used Shadow ball, but Darkrai countered with a Shadow ball as well. Barry swiftly launched an Aura sphere at the Zorua-like figure. Eclipse was caught off guard again and slowly hovered down to the ground. “Hold on, he could fly?!” Barry said, caught off guard. Eclipse wasn’t finished yet, as he used Dark pulse on them yet again. Ingo ordered his Leafeon to use Swift, as the Swift cancelled out the Dark pulse. “Hmph. I needn't use of this weak body.” A voice said, that was not Eclipse’s. A snake-like figure loomed behind the figure and flew out of Eclipse’s body. Barry recognised it instantly to be Giratina. Origin form Giratina specifically.
Before he could say something, the shiny Giratina flew off into a portal, as the portal behind the odd Giratina closed after he went through it, leaving Eclipse behind. Eclipse’s mask had fallen off, to reveal a face that resembled a Zorua. The eyes, the nose, the mouth. However, he was still humanoid. Darkrai flew over to Eclipse. “Are you… alright?” Darkrai asked. The two groups came over to him. Eclipse smiled and nodded. “He… left me with something… That he will regret… Leaving me with…” Eclipse said weakly. “And what is that?” Dawn asked him. Barry smiled knowingly. Eclipse chuckled. “His power.”
A few hours later, everyone recovered. Eclipse prepared to head off on his own, but not before opening a portal for Barry and his friends to enter back to their universe. “I guess this is goodbye. And uh, sorry for earlier.” Eclipse said to them. “Well, I guess it’s goodbye?” Eclipse said to them. Darkrai nodded. Barry, Lucas and Dawn prepared to jump back into the portal to their dimension. “Bye, it was fun staying here with you guys!” Barry said to Darkrai, Cresselia, Ingo and Leafeon. Dawn and Lucas said goodbye before jumping into the portal and Barry jumped in soon after.
They soon arrived back at the hotel and Dawn crashed into the bed. “That was.. a long day…” She panted. “Goodbye, huh..” Lucas commented as he had his brows furrowed together in sadness. “Well, it’s not goodbye forever isn’t it? I can always ask Giratina to make a portal to that universe and we can visit him!” Barry reassured his friend with a small smile as Barry looked out the hotel window. “Huh, nighttime already?” He replied as the trio settled down in their beds although Dawn and Lucas got ready to make a plan on how to tackle the Oreburgh gym with their current Pokémon on a nearby desk. Slowly one by one they all fell asleep.

Barry yawned as he got up from the soft hotel bed, Dawn and Lucas were already dressed and he, too scrambled to get dressed. Lucas grabbed the planning sheet about the Oreburgh gym, rolled it up and put it in his bag. “Alright, are we all ready to go?” Dawn asked Lucas, he just answered her with a nod. As soon as Barry finished getting ready, the trio set off for Oreburgh city, with Dawn signing them out of the hotel.
As soon as the group set foot onto Route 203, Barry stopped. “Hey, how about we each have Pokémon battles, to get ready for the gym?” He asked the other two trainers. “Ah, sure!” Lucas said whilst Dawn rummaged through her bag for Turtwig and Shinx’s pokéballs.
Lucas sent out his starter Pokémon Chimchar with a quick flick of his wrist. Dawn sent out Shinx first, as her turtwig would be weak to Lucas’s chimchar. Her shinx let out a meow as it was sent out. Lucas smiled. “You're smart to bring Shinx out and not Turtwig.” Lucas said. “But I'm sure it won't matter when I win!” He said competitively to the other two trainers. Dawn chuckled. “This is kind of like the battle royals in Alola.” She commented as she ordered her Shinx to use Bite on Barry’s Piplup, but Piplup dodged just in time. “Nice going!” He called out to his Piplup. “Now use Bubble!” Piplup used Bubble on Lucas’s chimchar, making his chimchar yelp. “Hang in there Chimchar! Use Ember!” Lucas said, his chimchar using Ember as commanded, but Dawn’s Shinx dodged in time. “Thundershock!” Dawn commanded, as her Shinx used Thundershock on Barry’s Piplup. The attack paralyzed the Pokémon. “Use Ember!” Lucas called out to his Chimchar as it did just that.
Dawn gasped as Shinx fainted. “You did good, Lucas.” She chuckled as she returned her Shinx to her Pokéball. “But now it’s time for payback!” The raven-haired girl said as she sent out her Turtwig. Barry's piplup couldn't attack due to paralysis. Dawn ordered her turtwig to use tackle, as it rammed into Lucas's chimchar.
The chimchar fell to the ground, knocked out. Lucas sighed. “Heh, we won't let some status condition stop us, right?” Barry asked his Pokémon, confidently. His Piplup got up slowly and nodded. It went for a Tackle on the Turtwig, but paralysis caused it to stop mid-way. Dawn’s Turtwig saw an opening and attacked. The attack caused Barry’s Piplup to faint. “We’ll get 'em next time.” Barry said with a sigh as he returned Piplup. Dawn smiled. “You all did great!” She said. “We’ll need to heal up at a pokécenter. Good job for your first battle, Barry!” Lucas replied.
As the group started to walk back, an odd-coloured wild Ralts suddenly blocked their path. Lucas thought nothing further and threw a Pokéballl at it. “What are you doing?!” Dawn yelled at Lucas. “You're supposed to battle it first!” However, the Pokéball caught the ralts and Lucas scanned it over with his Pokédex. “Nice catch!” Said Barry, oblivious to the situation. “Shiny.” Lucas said, putting his Pokédex away. Dawn was upset that they were ignoring her and stormed off.
