I’ve always been fascinated by Japanese culture, like millions of others. Whether it’s the history, martial arts, views on life, philosophy, work ethic or self-discipline, I feel like one could explore everything about this country for decades and still have tons to enjoy, enough for several lifetimes, even. But the one thing I always find myself coming back to are the comic books and anime. Similar to countless others, I’m always blown away by the imagination and creativity behind the authors of these works. How unusual must your imagination be to create a universe that has tiny animals you catch inside magical balls?!

My fascination started with Digimon because I was young when the show first aired on TV and I remember always eagerly waiting for it to start on the telly before we’d head for school in the morning. Later on, I fanatically watched and re-watched various iconic anime like Dragon Ball, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, but Pokemon somehow stuck with me the most. I’ve talked to countless like-minded people about what it is that makes this show so globally famous, and none of us could ever pinpoint a single cause.

It probably sounds ridiculous, but I’ve somehow adopted the mindset that the crazier something is, the more likely it is to succeed. Many years later, I partnered with a group of investors to set up our online business https://www.wild-card-city.com/ and my imagination was the guiding star throughout the process. The business boomed and I can help others because of it, despite never forgetting how weird my love of anime and Pokemon made me look in the eyes of others. Regardless, I encourage my kids today to continue down the same path of imagination and creativity. What makes Pokemon and other anime/manga so special for you?
