I sent a plushie to a player, and after sending, it gave me a normal gem. I went to bag, and it shows no option other than giving it to Pokemon?
Is there any other use of the normal gem other than giving it to hold?
And if I give it to hold, will it make any changes to my pokemon?

Gems are used to get pokemon from the gem collector which is helpful when shiny hunting and they're pretty valuable too so you can sell them for money. Pokemon can hold any item and some specific items even get them to evolve.

@RedEyed_Frog : The 'Gem Collector' can be accessed by hovering over the 'Town' tab.
