Chapter One- Undertale Core

Sunlight shone through the windows, and birds singing was the only sound heard. Sans stared down the long corridor of Judgment Hall. Soon, the room grew dark, and nothing was visible besides pure darkness. “What the heck?” Sans exclaimed. He turned to see his brother Papyrus facing away from him. “Papyrus? You're alive?”. He ran as fast as he could to embrace his brother, but when he reached out to grab him, he vanished into dust, his scarf slowly falling to the ground. “No!”. He fell to his knees and picked up his brothers scarf. “This is your fault you know.” A voice taunted from the shadows. “You had the power to stop all this. You were the only one that knew what was actually going on. If you had acted, your friends would still be alive. He would still be alive. Their lives, all because of a promise?” Sans looked up to see the voice with tears running down his face. Glowing red eyes and a glowing red smiling mouth shone from the shadows. The body of the figure could not be made out, but Sans knew exactly who it was. He wanted to tell them they were wrong, but deep inside his soul he knew they were telling the truth. He buried his head back into Papyrus's scarf and said “Pap, I'm sorry…” “Sorry won't bring him back. Your inaction cost him his life. Now…” The figure emerged from the shadows. It was a child, pale skin and rosy pink cheeks. Their eyes were blood red and had an unnatural glow. They wore a green and yellow striped sweater, and beige shorts. It was Chara. “It will cost you yours!” She summoned her glowing red knife and lunged at Sans. Right as Chara was about to land the blow, Sans woke up.

Sans woke up in a cold sweat. He felt his chest to find that there was no wound present. He sighed in relief. “Thank God, it was just a dream…” He looked at his alarm clock. “7 AM… Papyrus should be up by now.” He sat up on his mattress and rubbed his eye sockets. “Keep it together Sans… All of that is over. We’re fine.” He sighed and stood up. “I need a shower…”. After his shower, Sans got dressed in his usual outfit, a blue jacket, black shorts, and pink slippers, and went to go get some breakfast. “Heya Pap.” He said, grabbing his favorite coffee mug, a white mug that said “Nap queen” on it, matching his sleeping shirt. He poured himself a cup of black coffee. “Ah Sans! You're up early! What a nice change!” “Heh, yeah I guess so. What's for breakfast?” “The Queen taught me to cook eggs, so I figured I'd try that. It shouldn't be that hard, nothing the Great Papyrus cant handle!” Papyrus posed holding the frying pan as if it was a sword. Sans smiled, “Heh you're the best bro.” “I know. You know, since you're up so early, maybe you'd like to accompany me on my rounds?”.

Since the monsters left the Underground thanks to Frisk, there wasn't a need for a Royal Guard anymore. Instead, Papyrus decided to join a local Neighborhood watch. Sans actually preferred it this way. Less of a risk of him being hurt by… It was a simple job. Papyrus would leave the house at 8AM and patrol the neighborhood until 4PM. Nothing usually happened during his shift. Some kids looking for trouble occasionally, but nothing serious. Even if it wasn’t as prestigious as being a Royal Guardsman, Papyrus still enjoyed it.

“Sure. Not like I’m doing anything.” Sans downed the last of his coffee, and finished his breakfast. Instead of eating eggs with him, Papyrus had a protein shake instead. Sans didn't understand why he liked drinking them. They tasted like dirt, and only helped in muscle gaining, something Papyrus didn't have. But it made him happy, so that's all that mattered. Papyrus and Sans left at 7:45, and arrived at his post at 8:00 on the dot. The shift was boring as always. Sans napped in Papyrus's car for most of it, but when he was awake, Papyrus was happy to fill him in on what he missed in excruciating detail.

When they got home, they did their daily routine of eating, reading comics, watching MTTs new talk show and went to bed at 9. Sans didn't want to sleep though. He was afraid that if he did, she would come back to haunt his dreams. So instead of sleeping, he decided to read one of his Quantum Theory books. They helped take his mind off things when he was stressed. He finished the entire book in a few hours, and he still didn't want to sleep. It was 2 in the morning already, but he decided that a walk would help calm his nerves. He was careful to leave the house without waking Papyrus.

He walked towards the base of Mount Ebott. There was a spot near there that he enjoyed napping at. It was a clear meadow, with a singular tree sitting in the middle. He sat down at the tree’s base and stared at the stars. He never grew tired of seeing them. Being cooped underground for years with no natural light let him appreciate the beauty of the surface more than the humans could. As he started to drift off, he heard shuffling coming from the forest surrounding the clearing. He brushed it off as some animal, and began to close his eyes, but a large shadow figure caught his eye. It was headed towards the peak of the mountain. “Ugh not another kid…” Human children still liked to climb up the mountain, even though King Asgore strongly advised against it. Sans sighed and got up. He headed towards the peak himself.

It was dark, and the ground under him was barely visible. A couple times, he almost lost his footing on some loose ground. “What does this guy think they're doing?”. The figure continued onward, and had almost reached the mountains peak. “Hey! Stop!” Sans called to them. Either they didn't hear him, or were just ignoring him, because they continued onward. “You're going to hurt yourself, or worse!”. Despite his warnings, they did not stop their accent. “Dang it…”. He continued after them. They'd better have a good reason for making me come all the way up here… Finally, he had reached the mountains peak. The figure stood still, standing over the entrance of the underground. “Hey! Didn't you hear me?! It's dangerous up here!” The figure did not respond, and just kept looking at the hole. “Hey i'm talking to you!”. Sans approached the figure angrily. “What are you doing up here anyway?” He grabbed the figures shoulder, and turned them around. Chara smiled back at him, and all of a sudden, Sans felt a burning sensation in his chest. He looked down and saw that she had stabbed him. “Heya Sans. Long time no see!”. She removed the knife from his chest and Sans dropped to the ground. “C-Chara? That's not possible!”. “If it wasn't, then I wouldn't be here now wouldn't I?” Chara took a step towards Sans, and Sans struggled to crawl away. “You always were my favorite to play with. You were the only that knew me. Well, how about we play some more huh?” She stomped on his leg, breaking it easy. Sans screamed in pain. “No use trying to call for help. Up here, no one will hear you scream.” She laughed maniacally, then she turned away from him. “Well, actually, I'd love to stay and play, but I have other business I need to attend to. Besides, I dont think youll live much longer, and what's the fun in playing with a pile of dust.” She giggled. “See ya around.” She said, as she leaped into the hole.

Sanses breathing grew heavy. His chest was burning and his vision grew hazy. Right as he was about to drift into nothingness, he saw yet another figure. “Oh this isn't good. Here, let me help you.” The figure said. Its voice was deep, but it wasn't intimidating. The figure picked Sans up and started to walk. Sans tried to make out their face, but it was too dark, and his vision was still blurry. Not long after, he passed out.

Title: Chapter 2-Underswap

Papyrus sat on the hill staring at the sunrise, its golden glow casting upon the hillside. He took a deep breath of fresh air, enjoying the beautiful day. Papyrus and his friends had decided to spend this beautiful day at the park with a nice barbeque. Asgore handled most of the cooking, but naturally Sans and Alphys couldn't help stop themselves from joining in. The fire didn't burn the grass too bad at least. Chara and Sans sat by the tree drawing when Sans wasn't cooking. Alphys and Undyne talked to each other most of the time, but Asgore and Toriel were the exact opposite. In fact, they barely made eye contact. The food Asgore cooked was great, but the food Alphys and Sans cooked was barely recognizable as food. Papyrus ate it anyway. He was used to the taste of burnt tacos by now.

They had arrived at the park at sunrise, but when they left it was sunset. Toriel left first since she had queen business to take care of. Undyne left shortly after due to science stuff, and naturally, Alphys left with her. Then as it got dark, Asgore had to leave as well. Soon it was just Papyrus and Sans looking at the stars. Sans loved stargazing, and everytime Papyrus joined him, Sans would ask him tons of questions about them. Papyrus gave the best answers he could, but if it involved science, Sans didn't understand it. They layed there for what seemed like forever, but neither of the brothers wanted to leave just yet. “Do you think we will be able to touch the stars one day?” Sans asked, not taking his eyes off the sky. “The humans are coming up with several ways to travel into space, so maybe one day.” Papyrus responded, leaving out the fact that stars are millions of degrees in fahrenheit. “I want to be one of the first!” Sans sat up. “Ill even have one named after me!” Sans said confidently. “Everyone will come far and wide to hear about the Magnificent Sanses astronomical exploits!” Papyrus smiled. “Heh, guess you’re...” Sanses smile disappeared “Don't you d-” “Out of this world.” Sans was silent for a second. “Bro?” Papyrus was holding back laughter. Sans sighed. “That was a good one.” He turned back to Papyrus smiling. “And I hate it!”. Papyrus and Sans burst out into laughter. They caught their breath after a while, then they were silent again. “It's nice seeing you laugh Papyrus.” “What do you mean?” “When we were underground, you never really seemed happy. You were smiling all the time, but I don't think you were genuinely happy. Now that we're on the surface, your smiles and laughs are genuine. It's nice.” Papyrus was silent, not sure how to respond. After a couple seconds of silence, Papyrus grabbed Sans and embraced him in a hug. Sans happily returned the hug. After they let go of each other, they sat and enjoyed the view in silence.

The two returned home when the sun rose again. Each of them were bone tired from staying up all night. They didn't even make it to their beds, they just fell asleep on the couch, Sans leaning on Papyrus's shoulder as if it was a pillow. They slept the day away, and Papyrus woke up during the night. He carefully got off the couch without waking Sans, popped his back and walked outside. “Welp, there goes my sleeping schedule”. He stood at the door and pulled out a cigarette from his pocket. He lit it and started smoking it. Sans didn't like it when he smoked in the house. He didn't really like him smoking in general since it's bad for your lungs, but he doesn't have lungs so it didn't bother him. He had been trying to quit though to make Sans happy, but it's hard. He certainly had cut back a lot though. When he was underground, he smoked a pack every day. In fact, it was rare to see him without a cigarette in his mouth. Now he only smoked one or two a day.

Papyrus leaned against the door and closed his eyes. The wind was still, and the forest around his house seemed lifeless. The only sign of life was the sound of his own breathing. Being alone for once felt nice. It's not that he didn't like spending time with his friends and his brother, but sometimes he just needed some “me time”. Just when he was about to go back inside, he heard rustling coming from the forest. It made him jump a little, but he figured it was a deer or something. He put out his cigarette and was about to walk inside the house when he heard giggling. He turned around fast, heart racing. “Alright who's there?”. It was silent again, so he figured he was just hearing things. When he turned back around, he heard more giggling and rustling within the trees. “If this is some sort of prank, then it's fair to tell you that you're messing with the wrong guy.” The movement continued, seeming to get louder. “I'll give you to the count of 3 to show yourself, or I'm calling the cops. 1…” The movement got more intense, and Papyrus could make out a shadow in the tree line. “2…” Suddenly the movement stopped, and the shadow had disappeared. It was quiet again. “3”, A voice behind Papyrus said, then he felt something hit his back. He was knocked to the ground, and the wind was knocked out of him.

Papyrus quickly stood up to confront the person. It was a small child, no older than 12. They wore a pink and blue striped sweater and beige shorts. Their eyes glowed red, and they had short dark brown hair. “Frisk…” Papyrus prepared to summon his magic, but then realized that his brother was within close proximity, so fighting right now was not the best option. “Hello again Papyrus. We havent seen eachother in a while huh? Not since Chara decided to stop resetting. Kinda disappointing. We had so much fun together, but she decided that “friendship” and “love” is more important. I prefer a different kind of LOVE…” “How are you here? It shouldn't be possible.” “That's none of your concern. I just wanted to give you a little message. Do not try to interfere with what's about to happen. It will save you a lot of pain in the long run.” “What do you mean? What's about to happen?” “You’ll find out in due time. Just don't get in our way, and maybe you'll live long enough to see it.” Papyrus teleported the both of them to a clearing in the woods. Sans won't be hurt here. “I don't know what you're planning, but considering that your last plan involved slaughtering the entire underground…” Papyrus’s eye glowed bright orange, and magic coursed through his metaphorical veins. “I can't afford to let you proceed with it. I won't let you ruin this for us!” Papyrus summoned a blaster right above Frisk's head and fired it. Frisk gracefully jumped out of the way, so Papyrus followed up with a bone wave. Frisk summoned her scythe and slashed at the bones, destroying them. “Quick to fight aren't we? Fine, have it your way.” Frisk's eyes glowed a burning red, and her scythe glowed brighter. She slashed at Papyrus, and a powerful red aura burst from the scythe. Papyrus dodged the blast, but Frisk jumped towards him and slashed again, barely grazing his hoodie. Papyrus summoned another wave of bones and pushed them towards Frisk. When Frisk rolled out of the way, and slashed at Papyrus again, the blast even more powerful than before. Papyrus teleported away from the blast, and summoned a gaster blaster, successfully hitting Frisk with it. She kneeled holding her scythe recovering from the blast, but she wasn't down for more than a few seconds. She  ran at Papyrus again and attacked him with a series of slashes, Papyrus dodging each of them.

The two exchanged attacks for several minutes, and they both grew tired. Frisk was on their knee, gripping the scythe. She tightened their grip on the hilt of the scythe, then stood up and attacked again. Papyrus was no longer trying to attack, for he was too tired to fight back. Instead, he was more focused on defending. He dodged the attacks he could, but summoned walls of bones to stop her attacks when he couldn't.  Frisk slashed one more time with more force, causing a burst of red energy stronger than ever before. It burst through his bone wall, and the shockwave knocked him over. Frisk walked over to Papyrus and put her foot on his chest. “Goodbye Papyrus. This little game was fun at first, but I have other things to do.” She raised her scythe, preparing to strike when a sharp red object flew through their shoulder. Frisk winced and turned around to face the attacker.

Standing in the clearing was a hooded figure of similar size to Frisk. They wore a green hoodie and green shorts. Their face was covered by the shadows of the hood. “You…” Frisk frowned and turned back to Papyrus. “Our little game will have to continue some other time.” Frisk put away their scythe and ran into the woods. The mysterious person walked up to Papyrus and offered their hand to help them up. Reluctantly, Papyrus took it. He stood up and dusted himself off. “Heh thanks… You? Hey, who are you anyway? I haven't seen you around here.” The figure took off their hood, revealing a person that looked identical to their human, Chara. “The names Chara. Chara Dreemurr”.
