PLOT
Show hidden content
Technology all over the word is malfunctioning. Recordings keep glitching, uttering a strange phrase that nobody recognized or could identify, words that had no translation. Mobile devices get notifications from every application on their software, simply stating "Við erum á leiðinni." Computers go into a coma like state, the message plastered across their monitors permanently."

A news report from three years ago, stuck on repeat until the television fell to the ground, out of the skyscraper it was in and straight through the floors, one after another. Hitting the ground, it gets smashed by a piece of rubble it knocked down after it. A grunt is heard, then seven tentacles flew from nowhere and demolished everything in a twelve foot radius of the fallen television. The tentacles retreat, back into a four legged oval, a slit in the top closing as its teeth disappear from view. Thousands of these beasts appeared in Iceland, then spread across the world like a plague. More beasts followed.

Two legged things that split at the left shoulder flooded after them, their tentacles sharp and venomous. After the hordes of those, more strange blue portals opened, releasing more and more of the two kinds of creatures. For one whole year, that continued. Then it stopped abruptly. The portals, previously sitting on the ground like a sinkhole, rose into the air and started moving. Creatures were pushing them along with their tentacles, forcing them to move towards the center of Africa, now a corrupted wasteland, discolored to a light blue coloration. Two have already made it, but the others are stuck over the seas. What few survivors there are have witnessed strange things happening. One man claimed that the two portals that met in Africa fused, warping to become bigger. The others out at sea have apparently started to spill out water borne creatures, those beasts pushing it along with ease.

The survivors are the cowardly or the hostile, either hiding themselves and their children or loved ones from the beasts, or attacking them and killing them.
DAEMON COMPANIONS
Show hidden content
A dæmon (sometimes called a familier or a spirit animal) is the spiritual manifestation of a human soul. These creatures were able to hold different intuitions to their humans and reveal emotional responses to their surroundings that might not otherwise be obvious in their humans. Dæmons could communicate both verbally and non-verbally with them. A person's dæmon was usually the opposite gender. It was uncommon, but not unheard of, for a human and their dæmon to have the same gender. Cedarwood had a soporific effect on dæmons. As a human and their dæmon were one being, the death of one resulted in that of the other. Upon death, the dæmon instantly scattered as Dust.

Name Aelin Myraxis

Titles Stormhunter

Age 24 years

Zodiac Scorpio

Gender Female

Role Assassin

Personality

Whether it’s to do with her unhinged and wild upbringing, or the carnage that marked the beginning of her dark path, Aelin is a stone-cold, pitiless, and ruthless killer. Her dangerous nature and primal instincts that are so reminiscent of a natural warrior set her on this path, and have served her well as a facet that not only has kept her alive; but allowed her to dominate. She is as merciless as Death, should it be personified. Aelin distances herself, both emotionally and physically from others. Aelin is very strict and direct, as well as observant and cold. This often leads to threats or hostile confrontations. Aelin finds that she enjoys silence, as a reclusive character.

She is a rogue-like character, leading in a manner best regarded as arcane. Her enemies regard her as mad, or brutally obsessive at best, and her acquaintances can only hope that all is right behind the stoic masque of her storm blue eyes. Aelin embodies a storm in her own right, being rather aggressive and proud, likely more than is good for her. Aelin is quite confident when it comes to the question of challenge, and remains incorrigibly stubborn; her word might as well be law. Her loyalty remains unbreakable as steel, and yet there are times when she covets a freedom of will.

A wolverine is an animal that despite being small, combines mischievous cunning with primal savage ferocity to form a formidable opponent. When Daedra and her first met, Aelin was in fact quite surprised at his small size. To an extent, he represents her aggression and lust for power, as well as her wariness of others. There is no way that Aelin would rather die than going down fighting.

Name Adeline Channery

Age 22

Zodiac Aries

Gender Female

Role Survivalist

Appearance

a close depiction may be found here

Personality

Adeline is a rather clement fae, known for her tranquil and gentle nature. She's got the good looks, and is actually quite the charmer. She's the starlit girl with the soft bedroom eyes and a soft pout. One would think that gentle souls are very difficult to find within the husk of what was once London...and you're right. But that doesn't mean that Adeline's old habits die hard. Wary of most of her peers and the people she interacts with, only a fool can assume that her sweet demeanor is all that she is. Adeline is a very perceptive and observant girl. She keeps her walls up around strangers, as she is quite aware that daggers lurk in the smiles of sometimes her finest friends. Bright, witty and open-minded, Adeline is quite the outgoing lass, and she is more than eager to share her fair share of her life-experiences with her friends and a definite flair for melodrama. From the outsiders perspective, she is a presence that can fill a room. However, when she is feeling pressed or threatened, she tends to lock up, becoming tense and short in speech

Name Fallon Beckard Lassiter

Nicknames Wraith (gang name)

Age 17

Zodiac Scorpio

Gender Female

Sexuality Bisexual closeted

Role Survivalist / Assassin

Appearance

Not in the mood for a long read? A close depiction may be found here

Fallon is as close to a ghost as any human being can get. With an almost unnaturally pale complexion and shadowy dark hair surrounding her features, and cool haunted bourbon eyes, she looks more than a little ethereal. Her eyes are ... unsettling, seeming to stare right into your soul. She does somewhat have an hourglass

Personality

Fallon is a cunning, resourceful female with an obvious penchant for aggressive and violent behaviors and tactics, though not necessarily to the degree of her ‘father.’ She has a sharp mind and street-smart instincts that have gotten her through life. Fallon pursues her goal with dead-set focus that is very nearly obsessive. If she’s been sent to kill you, you’re already dead. She is posssessive of her loved ones, ferally so, and believes in the meaning of blood right and inheritance more than anyone. “We will not be denied what was meant to be ours.” Fallon is an extremely cynical and sarcastically inclined female, always wary of others and always self-righteously proud.

Despite the charisma and the glamour, Fallons mind has been riddled with scars; sin and mental illnesses have left their mark on her young mind, and continuously haunt her to this day. Even if Bear is the closest thing she will ever have to a father, Fallon knows that he will never truly love her or the rest of their little ... band. Fallon secretly feels that she must always prove herself to her ‘father’ whom she secretly hates.

There are many many faces that Fallon wears, many of which play to the innocence that most people would associate with her age. It's even better that she can fake a convincing smile or aura - covering up even the most vile of emotions. She's a snake with honeyed words and bright, eyes that seem to stare into ones very soul. This girl isn't one that is noticed often, because to most people, she's merely a shadow on the wall. But anyone in their right mind see through her facade - to the crumbling wall guarded by a million silver needles.

Fallon has learned that most of the gang members- most of her """""friends"""""" that work under Bear are brutish jackasses and cutthroats only out for themselves, and she doesn't trust them any more than she trusts her 'father.' Nevertheless, Fallon has no difficulty keeping up with their nefarious, troublemaking antics, - despite being the only female to ever dare to work under Bear - and even excels in certain skills.

Fallon is not a female who likes to talk, merely observing in the background. She has the ability to blend in to the shadows almost seamlessly, as though she were a ghost, and stay unnoticed for hours on end, even in broad daylight. This has led to her becoming an extremely successful thief, only leaving traces that don't become visible until weeks later when her unfortunate victim realizes that what she stole is missing.

Known Family

All deceased; only child.

Her entire life had been melded by the gang's ideologies - especially those of Bear himself considering he has been training her privately for eleven years. He's practically become her father, although she knows that she is only really a pawn in his games. A very valuable pawn, but a pawn nonetheless. Her true biological family is but a faint memory now.

Nathaniel Lassiter [biological father - status unknown, presumed dead] She hasn't seen him in a long time, and all memories of him have faded over the years. Bear is extremely reticent over this topic, and when he does bring up her father, it's usually in a negative tense. To be fair, the fact that her father gave her over to Bear so easily is a bitter topic, and has festered into a grudge despite her best wishes. If her father were to see his daughter now, Fallon knows that he would no longer recognize her, for there is no denying that Fallon does indeed belong in Thaddeus's gang.

Isla Lassiter [mother - deceased] Fallon has no warm words for her mother. Despite giving birth to her, Faline was never truly involved in her daughter's life, and if anything, found Fallon to be more or less a nuisance. The two never truly bonded with each other, and when Isla died, Fallon, only six at the time, didn't find it in herself to grieve.

Thaddeus Beckard [foster 'father' - alive] Bear discovered Fallon when she was a mere six years old, when her father was forced to surrender his only daughter to the cruel gangster when he fell into severe debt. However, it was within moments of Thaddeus seeing her and her background - of seeing the dark intrigue within the fae's eyes instead of fear - to decide to spare her. He became the most dominant figure in the fae's life - not any of the other gang members since she was kept pretty much separate - and even though she was relatively young at the time, he began to ruthlessly train her. After seven years, she was 'introduced' to the rest of the gang, although they don't see her often. After those seven years, it's undoubtable that her combat and killing skills are at their peak. She is Bear's secret weapon after all.

Inventory

Fallon has an iron pendant on a necklace, the last gift from her father. She also wears a pair of golden gauntlets (xxx). She is never seen without these items.

Nickname: "Nox"

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: *minus the spooky claws of course xD

Personality: Because of the more recent death of her family she'll have less control of her emotions than her older self. She is also timider than her older self. But she'll learn how to act tough very quickly. You can't walk into the crossfire of gangs and come out normal. At this age, she doesn't cover her face or use sign language.

History: She lived at a military camp her whole life. She lived a pretty happy life up until the night the beasts attacked. It all started with one beast trying to break into the camp, and one trigger-happy person to fire at it, which lured multiple beasts into the camp. She and Marcus were the only survivors, but they both don't know that the other is alive.

Nickname: Rouge

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Rank: Normal assassin (although at this point, he'll be getting a lot of attention from Bear, and will be eventually promoted)

Appearance:

Personality: He is actually a huge softie, but he also isn't dumb. Compassion won't get you far in this new world. He is forced to kill whoever Bear orders him to kill. Sometimes he 'accidentally' lets them get away. He is extremely protective of anyone he loves and is forever heartbroken by Nox's death

History: Like Nox, he was able to survive the beast's attack. He spent days searching the rubble of the camp for Nox's body, but he never found it. He loves Nox because she was the only person who was compassionate towards him- his parents weren't very great. Hunger drove him away from the camp and to the city, where he joined Bear's gang.

Daemon: house cat (passive) and jaguar (aggressive)

Name: Binx

Where? Narrow, abandoned, alleyways | Feeling Apprehensive, plotting, haughty | With? Doug/Valdis | WC? 792

London was a ghost town.

The scene before her was a dreary sight. Nature - perhaps in a darkly plotting mood just like the female - wrought the heavy hand of an impending storm, which very well matched the somber mood of the city, with cinereal clouds hovering over the city like great gray wings, casting ominous shadows in the nooks and cranny's of the alleyways. Not that they weren’t a forbidding sight to any passerby. Very little, if any, of the sunlight penetrated through the thick grey shroud, and although it was only a little past noon, it might as well have been in the middle of the night. The city was empty of life, though it could be very well argued that London - once a prosperous and lively city during its golden age - still retained some of its former glory. But they were called rumors for a reason.

The shrouds of darkness that hung over the city danced along Aelin’s sight as she strolled - without any real rush - toward the seedy area of town. Her footsteps were silent, the battle-black fighting leathers all but ruffled. Always moving on her own terms, demanding yet not expecting any more. And always vigilant. One didn’t get far into the city - this world - without being more aware of ones surroundings, and not just for the natural dangers it offered, but the people too. And that was something that she had opened her cold verdigris eyes to a long while ago. It was as if life had decided to spite her once more, to spit on the vast collection of various fortune of secrets that the brute held close to her like cards. It was just another one of the tricks of her trade; a no-brainer to be honest.

A soft tail brushed Aelin's left cheek, briefly as if sensing her mood, as the wolverine on her shoulder shifted his position, his dark eyes sweeping their surroundings for hostiles. It was an odd choice for a passive state, a wolverine. Notably built like a small bear with powerful jaws and a strong build, Daedra was, in every way, a brute. A black brute - though most of his fur turned clinquant around his muzzle and belly. The encyclopedia entry flashed in her mind. A wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself. And Daedra had not detoured from the expected archetype; he was just as bloodthirsty as her, if not more. But he was also keen, and calculating, a must for their line of work. Not just keen in the behavior of his prey, but also his partner.

Now, Aelin didn't - never - strayed from her job as an assassin. There were few that were more diligent or so effective as her, and her reputation showed it. Yet she couldn't shake the cold apprehension that was crawling like a snake on her spine. Cool, unshakable hands of ... a relatively implacable emotion stained the edges of her vision with white like snow. Aelin wasn't afraid, nor was she nervous. Those were emotions she had outgrown long ago, yet there was a certain weariness to be had when it came to dealing with Doug Beckard. Two sides of a broken coin of brutality; one made for cold, cruel cunning and the other for brute strength. Many of her clients were less-than-savory characters, which was why Aelin never allowed them to glimpse past her cruel facade, but she knew that there was an immorality surrounding Bear that made ordinary men quail. Even in the darkness, there was a defined hierarchy.

Glimmering hotel doors stood tall and proud before her, a sight which made Aelin's lip curl back in a sneer. The den of the Bears' wasn't what the composed fae had been expecting; a carefully crafted mirage of wealth and beauty to hide the rot hiding behind it. A mask, of sorts, because Aelin had become well informed as to the debauchery and horrors that hid behind these walls. Silence, oppressive and unending, pressed down on her like a lead blanket - only broken by her heartbeat. There would be no reconsidering after she entered this mansion, and she took a deep inhale, steeling herself for what she would surely see.

And for a moment, Aelin swore; a mental illusion drawing up to mind those cool, black pits of eyes. A face that had seen a millennium of cruelty. She closed her viridian eyes against it, and when she opened them, a cold wall of sage stared outwards, daring, unflappable, merciless. Storm-cleaver's eyes.

Thud. Thud. Thud Three knocks echoed through the wasteland.

Nox
Yellow, cat-like eyes seem to gleam into the darkness as Nox slowly silently watches. Two men stand underneath her, seemingly unaware of the young girl standing on the bridge above them. One man would definitely be a threat, he was large and muscular. The other was small and frail, she would have no problems taking him down. Her eyes lock onto her prize, a large bag filled with cash. This was it, this was her ticket out of this place she just has to...-

Nox leaps off of the bridge, her graceful fall being quickly stopped by her foot hooking onto the railing of the bridge. Instead of diving feet first on top of the muscular man, she ends up slamming face-first into him. She managed to turn her head in the nick of time, her cheek ended up slamming into his shoulder rather than her nose. Fortunately, the man crumples under her bodyweight. She makes a grab for the bag, hesitating a few moments too long. The shock of the fall and the shock of landing in the cold, knee-high waters was almost paralyzing. She struggles to stand up, her limbs were half entrapped underneath the man, they both manage to free themselves at the same time.

Run! Nox takes off, she doesn't need to look back to know that she is being followed. "After her!" The man shouts, and more splashes follow. Wait... so what's chasing me then? Nox turns her head slightly and nearly screams. A roar fills the air as a large grizzly bear follows. A string of four-lettered curse words rolls off Nox's tongue as she runs, adrenaline pushing her forward. Up ahead was a wall, she could easily jump and push herself up but the bear behind her would more than likely drag her down. You are getting soft Nox, normally you would've been able to outrun them a voice scolds.

"Outrun a bear!?" Nox cries out in disbelief, which she immediately regrets. She was tired and didn't have the breath to waste on talking. Enough whining, jump now!

Nox jumps as instructed, the breath momentarily being knocked out of her as she slams into the wall. She hears the familiar sound of coins falling out of the bag, but she wasn't about to go back and collect them. She struggles to heave herself up. Luckily, her daemon was there waiting. Freyja bites Nox's arm, which does not feel very good, but she assumes this is better than the bear mauling into her. Freyja helps drag Nox up and together, they pause to watch the bear desperately try to climb after them, but she's not able to drag her heavy body up the wall. Enough, this was a long enough of a break, let's go before they catch up Freyja tells Nox with a huff. Nox nods and follows after her Daemon. She doesn't take the time to check how many coins she lost, she wasn't sure if she even wanted to know.

...
Marcus
On the other side of town, Marcus lays in wait. Bear had given him a new assignment, he was ordered to kill an enemy from a rival gang. Normally, Marcus would be annoyed, but he had done some digging. This woman was almost like a female version of Bear. Cold and murderous, she had a record of killing just to kill, no matter the age or class. This was a person who needed to die, if not for Bear, for her victims. This was the problem though, he had no idea when she would be home. His back was stiff from sitting in the old chair facing the entrance of the door. He didn't want to move in case she returned.

Binx walks around the room in his jaguar form. At the moment, he was ignoring Marcus. But that wouldn't last long, Binx tended to get bored very quickly. Marcus finds that his eyelids are starting to get heavy, he finds himself nodding off when he is suddenly woken up by a growl coming from Binx.

"Who are you!?" Marcus' target asks. He didn't even hear the door open up, but Binx certainly did. He crawls towards her but stops when she pulls out a pistol and points it at him. She is silent for a moment, glancing between Binx and Marcus. A cold smile appears on her lips when she puts two and two together.

"Seriously? Is this really an assassination?" She snorts and looks Marcus up and down. "You are young, foolish, and inexperienced" she points the pistol at Marcus now. "Unforuently you won't get the chance to imrpo-" her words are cut short by a throwing knife that Marcus had just thrown. It sails across the air and embeds itself into her shoulder. Pain causes her to pull the trigger and she misses Marcus' head by mere inches. Marcus races forward and slams his body into hers, which causes the pistol to go flying out of her hand. He takes out his dagger and presses it against her throat.

"I would say that I'm sorry, but you deserve this" Marcus tells her coldly. That's when he does it. He ends her right then and there. Even though she deserved to die, the process doesn't make it any easier.
Guilt gnaws at Marcus' gut as he wipes the bloody dagger on her shirt and frees the throwing knife. "Let's get going," he tells Binx emotionlessly. He would have to report back to Bear, but that was the last thing he wanted to do right now.

Where? The Sunshine's Pool; restaurant | Feeling Haunted, wistful | With? Alone | WC? 970

Working in this restaurant was possibly the most relaxing thing that Azura had ever done since the apocalypse started. And truthfully, Azura welcomed any sort of distraction from the ruined state of matters that was the world at this moment. It demanded very little and a lot from her in different ways, and it kept her mind occupied. Prevented her from thinking back to the more horrible aspects of her past, and those that had defiled her body for their own nefarious reasons. It was no surprise that Azura was a girl who was used to being tossed under the bus by others; used and bound, like a slave. Her eyes were eyes that had seen too much, if anyone were to be speaking logically. And yet, Azura knew very little people who would give her their sympathies, since pity was only a short distance away from it, and the lines were blurred a lot more than Azura was comfortable with.

The bells attached to the door of the restaurant broke out in song as Azura allowed herself entry, the melody a familiar jovial sound within her bones. Despite having only met the owner three years ago, Azura knew that there was not a place she'd felt more at home. Not even within the ruins where she had created her meager excuse for home. It seemed as if the four walls could block out the world itself, all the misery stayed on the outside, leaving only her work. And Azura repaid the kindness Madame Malena had shown her well with dedication and an astute mind. Most of the tricks and stratagems that Calliope used to attract customers were mostly to her credit after all.

Madame Malena - one of the first facts that Azura had learned of her - was that she was most definitely a mother hens' example. Sometimes, Azura swore that she knew more about her employee than Azura knew about herself. She bustled around the restaurant like a bumblebee inside their hive, as if their old age didn't hinder them at all. It was a rather sore topic, her old age, and Azura had seen her furiously chase a many a person out with a wooden spoon should they insinuate that she was no longer able to look after herself. A woman long past her prime in her sixties, although Malena's temper was not to be trifled with; she had a formidable anger. But she was also one of the only people whom she'd ever confide in. The woman wasn't her mother, but she was close to it.

"You know I saw a pod o' whales coming up here?" Malena chirped, her arms bustling around the stove. Her ferret spirit partner - Antumbra - sat nearby, grooming herself luxuriously. "Better air, better waters. Less humans around to pollute it."

"Yeah, I suppose you can find a silver lining...with everything." Azura shrugged with a lopsided grin, tugging a large pile of pure white napkins for folding. The customers were scarce these days, which of course, meant shorter work hours for her. But, she still wanted to spend as much time her as possible. "I guess you could say that this is Nature's way of fighting back. But these creatures aren't...of our world." She laughed quietly, "Seriously, I remember saying when I was ten that I didn't believe in aliens."

"I warned you, Miss Prudence." Malena wagged a finger playfully at her charge, her face, wrinkled from age, crinkling into a grin, "Don't jinx anything. That's what you kids say at least." She jerked her chin at the sink, which was currently overflowing with soiled silverware and plates. "After you get the napkins sorted, do you mind getting the sink cleaned out? You're naturally quick at that."

"Yes, ma'am!"

The chimes at the door drew Madame Malena away from her charge, and Azura out of sheer curiosity, turned to look back to see the new arrival. A tired lad, accompanied by a jaguar familiar. A jaguar. Marcus; she identified him almost immediately. And he worked for...

The breath hollowed out of her lungs, her eyes going distant; cool and haunted ghosts replaced the usual lively splendor in her eyes. She barely recognized that she had gone limp, nor her face eerily calm, a sheer façade over her fear as a cursed memory resurfaced. Azura was a person who believed in being haunted, or things coming back to bite. But no amount of superstition could prepare her for the horrible sliver that dug into her like claws.

Images and emotions assaulted her in a tide til she choked on terror itself; her awareness left her as an old pain reared its ugly head. It arrested her lungs as she was spirited into another place. Jolting back to the present was an alarming affair, and Azura nearly jumped physically. As she returned to the scene around her, she was conscious of Marcus watching her curiously. A polite cough escaped her lips before she turned back to the napkins laying beside her like nothing ever occurred.

Bear

It had taken some time, but Bear had returned back to the hotel. He was obviously agitated as soon as he arrived. The thief had just barely slipped out of his hands. She hadn't been able to steal a lot from him, but the fact that she got away with some of his funds was embarrassing. He was forced to come here and lick his wounds in private. Currently, he sits in a large chair, his hair is still damp from the water. At least now he has a new change of clothing. Maybe he could send someone after her? That would be difficult, he didn't get a good look at her and his business partner was too shocked by her attack to memorize any details.

White hair, yellow eyes, and female. That's what they had to work with. Valdis perches on the top of his chair. She silently stares out the window, awaiting Aelin, who should be arriving shortly for a job. "Am I being too soft on her?" Bear asks outloud. "I wonder how loyal she is too me, I don't want her stabbing me in the back..." He trails off, and glances at the phone on the table next to him, which was ringing.

"Yes?" He asks tiredly.

"Storm-Cleaver is here to see you" his secretary replies.

"Excellent send her up, and tell her that she is late!" Bear growls before slamming the phone down. She wasn't late, she was actually early, but Bear needed an excuse to be angry.

Marcus

Marcus doesn't really take notice of the strange girl starting at him. It was no secret that he was an assassin who worked for Bear. Still, he found it slightly unnerving that a commoner managed to find out what he did. He was hoping he could retire soon, maybe lie low and forget his past. That wouldn't be easy if everyone knew what he did. Maybe he deserved this. Suddenly working up a rather spontaneous appetite, he moves towards the table in the back and picks up a menu. He doesn't read it right away, instead he tries to take make a mental note of his surroundings. Such as the number of people in here, all the guests, he even tries to read their body languages. Was it possible one of them would suddenly attack him?

Satisfied that he was safe here he quickly skims over the menu. "Excuse me?" He calls out, he glances at the youngest of the girls working- the one who stared at him- quickly assuming she was the one responsible for waitressing. "I've never been here" he admits, his cheeks reddening slightly in embarrassment. "Anything good that you would recommend?"

Where? The Sunshine's Pool; restaurant | Feeling Intrigued, dutiful, sentimental | With? Marcus/Binx | WC? 543

Azura's folding of the napkin was rather forceful when she sat down to actually do it, her dexterous fingers easily coaxing the fabric into uniform intricate shapes. She allowed herself to focus solely on her task, not allowing her mind to wander back into the darker depths of her past. Folding napkins was soothing in a sense, since the complexity of it required the mind not wander at all. The white color, so pure and clean, also helped to draw her mind back to her reality, the silky touch grounding her. The low murmur of the other waitresses and waiters in the restaurant filled the air with the slow ebb and flow of conversation, comforting like the pattern of waves on the beach.

To be frank, she hadn't expected such a violent flashback upon just seeing someone; her gut churned silently. Azura had never been the best at hiding her emotions, and whatever mask she had on tended to be very much sheer than most other individuals. It could be quite obvious what she was feeling at any given time. And the terror that she'd felt at Marcus's presence - because she'd seen a ghost behind him - was all too obvious. Only Malena knew anything of what happened that night. What had been done to her, and what she had been told.

He's gone, you silly goose. Azura reprimanded herself gently, setting down another flower-folded napkin. And that was years ago. She shook her head vigorously. Just ...shake it out! She dusted off her worries, putting them away in her mind for further rumination later. Adjusted her collar. Put on a crowd-winning smile that was complemented by a mischievous look in her violet eyes. Bright, bubbly and silly.

And just in time too. It seemed that the assassin was going to be here for a while. Azura knew she'd rather damn herself than let his allusions cripple her personally. Utterly pathetic. And judging by the way he was looking at the menu, it looks like he wanted to have something to eat. Oh, he must be hungry huh. Azura raised a hand to wave back, indicating that she'd be with him in just a moment.

Waitressing go brrrrr.

Azura snatched a notepad and blue-ink pen from a desk closer to her, and tucking the pen behind her right ear, she made her way through the crowded space. She gracefully squeezed in between Faline and Molly - both of which were carrying dishes of shrimp tempura bento boxes - and finally made her way to Marcus's table, a silly smile perching on her face. Oh, he was actually more tolerable when he was flushed like that. Cute, even.

"Hello! Welcome to The Sunshine's Pool! First timer, huh?" Azura cocked her head amicably, a rather puppy-like gesture, "Welcome! I'm Azura, and I'll be your waitress for today. As for what people like the most..." She plucked up a spare menu, flipping through it before settling on the 'POPULAR' page. "These are some of the ones that receive a lot of welcome when people come here. There's no need to look so flustered. Promise that we have the best environment here."

Okay, well, she should stop talking now. Azura leaned on a chair casually, waiting for his response.

Where? Bear gang headquarters | Feeling Brooding, calculating, haughty | With? Ereberus/Clash | Doug/Valdis | WC? 1150

Aelin was an assassin of few words, so she allowed silence to engulf her in its cold embrace while she waited for the secretary to deliver her message. She had to fight the urge to scoff when she saw how frightened the female was in her presence; the assassin could practically taste her terror on her tongue. The fear hadn't even faded from the secretary's eyes when Aelin had dismissed her, sneering in contempt. And Bear hadn't even deigned to acknowledge her presence. Granted, the brute was likely taking his own damn time in deliberating how his cards could be played. Most ironically, the notice had been classified as urgent. The jackasses that composed Bear's gang milled around her like a river around a stone. Most hadn't noticed her, yet, and the ones that did gave her a wide berth. No one looked twice; it wasn't as if this was the first time their 'master' had summoned an assassin. They tended to make a lot of enemies, which was to be expected. Even Aelin had taken a bite out of their hide a few times due to the desire to wipe them all clean off the earth overwhelming her senses.

Daedra had left her shoulder upon entering the gilded structure and for now, his small yet unearthly silent presence strode beside her. Wolverines were not big, mind you, and in this form, he barely came up to Aelin's ankle. He was on edge, that's for sure, his lips peeled back from dagger like canines and fur puffed up to make him look twice his size. She knew that should Bear make any attempt to undermine her, to even try to utter one contemptuous remark, he'd find Daedra's fangs in his face. Wolverines weren't social by nature, but Daedra was a being who knew loyalty well. No shifting just yet. We need to keep his confidence in check, not dash it out of him..

Stepping inside the elevator car, Aelin fell silent somehow, her eyes going into that usual half-lidded, distant look. Brooding, yet perfectly aware of her surroundings. She willed the storm in her mind to quiet - to somehow become aware of her entire surroundings when she couldn't see them. But - it didn't take long for a stitch of her composure to be ripped away when she spotted a very familiar serpent, his glossy coils gleaming coldly as they caught and reflected the light. And the muscled brute who stood nearby, his face unrecognizable beneath the mask that was so similar to hers. Daedra hissed softly, his pelt puffing up as he bared his fangs at the snake, a hint of recognization dawning in those inky eyes. Predator to predator, the two assassins eyed each other with steely gazes. The male cocked his head, the gesture somehow condescending. Challenging.

Aelin always wondered where Ereberus went to after he had been unleashed upon London. But to find him here was only proof of what she had thought of him. The Academy had inculcated very little morals in their assassins. Honor had never been enforced, only a bloodthirsty ambition to take what was meant to be theirs. To control what was meant to be theirs by any means necessary?

War and bloodshed? Yes please.
Trickery and deceit? Go for it.

I bet you that Ereberus is going to be the one ripping Bear open when all this is done. Daedra remarked silently down the bond, his tone unreadable.

She could almost imagine his voice, as cold and predatory as his familiar. A male accustomed to killing and bloodshed, who had been bred for combat. There you are, Aelin. I've been looking for you.

She blinked and the elevator doors slammed slammed shut, the low hum of the car moving upwards replacing the silence. It left her with some time to think. Bear...he couldn't have been that foolish. Ghuls - as they were dubbed by the public when they killed in the shadows - always had some kind of hidden agenda, a facade they put on in politics. But there was no denying that aura of raw menace, the darkness coiling and roaring around them in a wave. Formed by sheer sinister intent, they worked only for themselves or for the League. Not for each other. And most certainly not for a lowly drug lord. And yet...Aelin couldn't shake the feeling that this had all been a coincidence.

Even if all Ereberus was was an arrogant insufferable prick. But he was a prick that was effective at killing, for sure. Almost more than her.

So Aelin embraced the silence that pressed down on her like a blanket, even putting a mental wall between her and Daedra for the time being. And in that silence, she took every one of her emotions and shoved them down, down, down into a black pit. Some of them reared against her touch, in vain. Dominance over her emotions - especially with her volatile temper - was essential to presenting a good first image. Which she was going to need. There was not an ounce of doubt in her body that Bear would try everything in his goddamn power to undermine her, to get a grasp on who she truly was. He would know her - somewhat - but only a certain bit.

A man's identity is only a circumstantial web of what he percieves himself to be. The rest is the haze of inconceivability trapped in the bitter cycle of eternity. Aelin mentally repeated her mother's teachings in her head as she waited to arrive at her destination. She was forced to swallow a bitter taste in the process as she could almost recognize the gentle, woeful eyes of her mother - before she had gone to an early, bloody grave. Aelin had left her mother early, for personal reasons of course, but her mother's sharp wit and fortitude had always stayed with her daughter. Always quick to the uptake. Always vigilant and observant.

Kindness. That's what she needed to learn. What she would never learn.

The elevator dinged, a disembodied male voice announcing Floor G14. Fourteen floors below ground; deep in the catacombs. Breathe in and out as she beheld the office just on the left end of the hall. Cool and demanding were two emotions radiating from her icy sage eyes. Cool, composed, and utterly at ease. The area here looked surprisingly artificial considering it was carved out of a cave system at one point. Even Daedra was silent at this point, his gaze fixated forward with unnatural intensity. In just a few swift strides, she brought herself to the door. She was surprised to find it open actually, and had to restrain herself from kicking it open. Entering the room, meeting his dark onyx eyes with her own sage ones, yet she could see that he was looking right at Daedra.

She bit her cheek to stifle a cold cackle when he smiled. Beside her, Daedra's fangs were bared - dagger like incisors piercing the air besides his chin. Smiling...almost.

Marcus
He chuckles at her response, physically calming down under her reassurance. "That's a relief" he replies, his tone humourous. But there was a hint of lounging in his voice. Was there even such a thing as a good environment? He really only knew death and suffering, which seemed to follow him everywhere he went.

Right... He should say something. He was staring into space for too long now, he didn't want to frighten the poor girl. A wave of anxiety hits him and he chooses the first item he spots on the 'POPULAR' section. "I'll just have a BLT" he replies. He mentally cringes, he doesn't like BLTs, but he would look like a fool to change his order so he sticks with it.

Binx makes a rumbling sound that almost sounds like laughter, Marcus resists the urge to lightly nudge his companion's side in annoyance. Why was he so nervous around this girl? He was usually better than this. Calmer and more assertive. He nervously glances at the girl, silently awaiting her reaction.

Bear
He found that he was unable to hide his amusement. It was rather odd that they had similar daemons. If only things were different, maybe the two could be closer. Unfortunately, things were different. The two were playing a game of chess, both trying to decide when was the best time to kill the other. That was clear. Valdis clicks her talons against the chair impatiently. She wanted to attack, not talk. But Bear needed Aelin alive. There were still a few hard hits that Bear wanted to strike without risking his own men. Now there was a new person added to that list... A cold smile appears on Bear's face as he forms a clever plan in his head.

Bear allows the silence to be drawn out a few moments longer before he suddenly stands up and walks over to a small table. On it, were two glasses, and a larger pitcher filled with whiskey. "Care for a drink?" Bear asks along the way. "Surely you must need one after all the errands I've been giving you." His voice was measured, friendly, but measured. Bear was far from friendly, so this wouldn't last long.

A growl fills the air as Valdis senses her masters shift, even before it were to happen. She reappears from behind the chair in her grizzly bear form. Salvia drips from her mouth as she stares as Daedra with a hungry look. She glances at Bear, waiting for a command that was going to come... Yet.

Bear turns around, calmly taking a large sip of his drink before putting the glass back on the table and strolling towards Aelin. He didn't care about her answer. Yes or no, it didn't matter. She wasn't getting anything from him. "I'm sure you are expecting payment. Unfortunately, I can't give you everything. Some of your share was robbed this morning. If you have a problem with that, you can take it up to the one who robbed you. Some random white haired girl"

Nox
Nox places her hands on her knees. Her chest heaving as she struggles to catch her breath. Freyja trots around Nox, wrapping her tail around Nox's legs and sniffing the air. We have outrun them she informs.
"That's great. I don't think I could move another step" Nox whines. She rests her back against the wall and raises her head up into the air, which helps her breath a bit better. Or at least, that's how it feels. What is our earnings? Freyja asks impatiently, she bumps her snout into the small bag and lets out a dog-like whine. Dread fills Nox's stomach as she picks up the bag and glances inside. She winces at the sight. She had lost a lot of money, too much. She had a sizeable amount, but it wasn't worth the risk she had just took. Pocketing the cash, Nox pushes herself off the wall and walks around distractedly. She passes by a small diner and glances inside curiously. Her heart jumps when she glances at the boy that's in there, why did he look familiar-?

We lost a lot huh? Well... I guess what we have is better than nothing. What's the plan? Freyja asks. Nox turns her head back to her Daemon, losing interest in the mystery man.
"I guess... I was hoping for a bit more than this though." Nox's eyes sharpen as she moves back into attention. "We should find a safe place to hide, just until we know those people aren't tailing us anymore, lucky for us, I found the perfect place while we were running for our lives."
...
They return to a large beaten down clocktower. It looked like it was about to collapse at any moment. Which would explain why it was empty. I suppose we could do worse Freyja huffs. The two look around as they climb the steps. They don't find anything that they could use. When they reach the top the first thing Nox sees is large windows that overlook the city. Nox gasps at the sight and presses her hand against the window. The city was oddly beautiful from up here. She sits down on the ground and silently stares out the window. For some reason, she found herself thinking of her past.

Those were better times... She digs a hand into her pocket and pulls out a small photo album. They were small photos of her, her parents and-... Marcus. Tears fill her eyes as she stares at one of the photos: Marcus's goofy smile as he has an arm slung over her shoulder. They looked so happy, the memory of it felt like she was being stabbed in the chest. She hangs her head down and holds an arm against her face in a desperate attempt to muffle her sobs. "I wish you were here" she voices outloud. "You would know what to do" she lays back onto the hard ground and states up at the ceiling. How much longer could she possibly live for? She wasn't prepared for this kind of life. You have to continue fighting, you aren't down yet Nox. He wouldn't want you to give up Freyja points out solemnly. Nox knew that she was right, but for now, she was going to allow herself to wallow in self pity.
