Mal doesn't notice her. He just follows Ford. Ford leads them to the beam of light, which is opening a portal above the town. A triangular being pops out. "Bill," Mal says under his breath.

"You two know Bill?" Ford asks the siblings.

Ford is talking to Bill, saying things that neither Mal nor Clove could hear. Bill laughs and turns Ford to stone. Mal tries not to cry out.
