Some Fire Dragons breathe fire thanks to special white Phosphorus cheek glands
Quote from Wikipedia, When exposed to oxygen, white phosphorus glows in the dark with a very faint tinge of green and blue. It is highly flammable and pyrophoric (self-igniting) upon contact with air.

...
I thought it was a flame-sac in the back of their necks that can activate at will for some, others have to be warm enough.

The name dragon is derived from the Latin word 'draconem' which means 'huge serpent'.

The term 'Dragon' ,regarding the mythical creatures, have been depicted as many things.
There is the classic: giant lizard with wings and can breath elements
But they have also been told other ways for example, a giant snake or a hybrid of animals.

Thousands of species are classified as dragons in the class Agamata (I dunno I just made that up)

Agamidae is a family of lizards known as dragon lizards. The family contains over 300 species of lizards including collared lizards.

Pacific blackdragons are a kind of deep-sea fish. They are thought to be related to loosejaws.

(blackdragons and loosejaws are my favorite deep-sea fish)
...and that's a wrap.

There is a book series from 1983 named Dragonlance, which is based loosely off the Dungeons and Dragons RP game series.

There are over 190 books in the series!
