For the losing sprites, I don't know if we'll show them? The person who made them, might like them for something else, if they didn't win, and showing them might mess with those possibly-future plans. . .

As some of you might've noticed, the first winning event was released today, but no winners have been announced in this thread. Before pandemonium breaks out, let me explain.
Riako asked me not to reveal the winners, as he wants the winner reveal to be part of the mystery of the event. Hence no reveals in this here thread. So far, I (and by extension Riako) am the only one who knows who made the winning sprites. Not even the other Staff knows.
I apologize for not addressing this change in plans before the first reveal and I hope you enjoy our winners as they get rolled out!

It's also true the design(s) and winners were always revealed together so, as I said, while our reasoning is different, Riako's reasoning also holds ground.
You bring up a second valid point (which I didn't think about). With both Halloween and Christmas coming up, the reveal might keep us waiting. I'll poke Riako about it.

So it's probably best to keep it secret until the events happen. Though I agree, it's torture not to know.
Also, what about the "consolation prizes" to those who don't win? That will have to wait until all winners have been announced, won't it?

You shouldn't go into a contest expecting to win. Of course every person that entered wants to win, but only a few people out of however many entered will win. It's not worth getting your hopes up each time, expecting it to be your entry, then it's not and you're disappointed. There will be people who didn't win, and it's better to expect you aren't one.

While I also don't expect to win, I expected to be told if I lost or not.
The inconsistency messes with my brain and makes me stressed out since I didn't expect this sudden change (I need things to be very clear & straight forward otherwise I get stressed out and kinda just, get stuck in endless thought processes trying to recalculate any possible outcomes and when/if to expect them happening or giving me information to further process my thoughts)
I'd rather know if I lost and move on from the disappointment faster or if I won and thus have to just wait to see it implemented and see what others think about it.
It wouldn't have been a problem for me if at the beginning of the contest didn't say they'd announce people in the thread and then change it last minute. Had they during voting or something told us "hey so, Riako decided to make it a surprise so we're not gonna say who the winners are until you get to see the events" then I'd be fine with it. I'd know what to expect/prepare for better.
Now I'm just.. confused and trying to tell my brain that surprises like this are good.
Making it a surprise reveal is okay, making the decision and not tell us what to expect was not.
Not going to click any less during these events though, like Banette was definitely amazing to make these sprites and I want so many of them lol. I just wish I could enjoy each new event with (more) excitement rather than go all "is the next one maybe mine?"
edit: to clarify, I wanted to know about riako's change of heart for the reveal earlier than one day before the event because it was more like a "okay so we've decided on winners. first event is out tonight" and then silence/no clarification or anything until several hours later.
So I suppose what I really just want is: better/more communication.

Just a quick question instead.
Could we know how MANY peoples' designs were chosen? That wouldnt reveal any winners, but could help us all feel a little less in the dark. We wouldnt be left wondering forever if we might win, but instead would have a countdown to go by.

As for revealing how many winners there are, it could still potentially cause stress for several months, which is something I'm trying to avoid, so I'm not sure that'll be any real help. If Riako said with the last one 'this is the last one', there wouldn't have been any less stress than if they knew in advance.
I personally think the opposite would be true. Each further reveal, would increase the stress of 'did I get chosen', because there's 1 less chance.
